  1. Loved the Milk Bar's servings in NY when I sampled a few during my most recent visit. Particularly enjoyed the double chocolate cookie and the cornflake-crusted chocolate cookie with marshmallows in it. I see from their menu that they kept those for the DC locations along with their "cereal milk", which is basically ice-cold milk flavored to taste like the milk at the bottom of a bowl of corn flakes plus a hint of something extra that I've never been able to really identify. Probably cocaine. They serve it by the glass jug, like the ones you used to get from the milk man every morning. Gimmicky sounding? No doubt. But it's good stuff and pretty much the perfect companion for those cookies. They also have a soft serve version of it, If I remember. I prefer it in beverage form. i already have plans on Monday to make an outing to the DC outpost. Sweet tooths have a friend in Christina Tosi, guys.
  2. Ended up ordering from Lost Dog Cafe at about 9:30 last night. Delivery was quick and they brought it right to the room. I gave him a huge tip for that. I got the Baked Ziti. Their version uses mozzarella, Parmesan and (I think) ricotta. It was a damn delicious baked ziti. It's hard to evaluate the actual culinary merits of this dish considering the circumstances but as someone who grew up helping mom with the Sunday gravy every week, it certainly hit the spot.
  3. Hey guys. In a real situation here. I'm staying for a few nights at the Inova Fairfax Hospital on Gallows Rd, right near the Mosiac District. Can anyone recommend some delivery/take-out options near me that will travel/reheat well? There's no way I'm eating this hospital food. I notice Elephant Jumps, for example, is near me but I've only ever had experience dining in there. Does any of the food from their "serious authentic Thai food" menu reheat well? I loved the Gang Hung Lay when I ate there but have no idea how it would handle even the shortest of drives. Anyway, all suggestions are welcome!
  4. Seems like the DC location of Hell Burger has run into some trouble. http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/blog/top-shelf/2015/08/is-it-finally-the-end-for-rays-hell-burger-in-d-c.html Man, I hope this doesn't mean anything bad for the rest of the Ray's joints.
  5. I just did it, though. --- Brinkley's (Arlington Kabob) Quarry House Tavern (dinwiddie)

  7. I weep inside every time I'm reminded of the new Wharf development. Perfect example of how gentrification can take a unique and cultured experience and turn it into a made-for-tourism glitzy spectacle. That fish market will never be the same.
  8. I know The Palm serves them, as well as The Prime Rib. Wish I knew of less expensive options.
  9. RT's in Alexandria serves them for dinner. Haven't had them but I can vouch for their food in general.
  10. The steamed dumplings were the surprise hit for me. I mean, I loved the duck, but I knew that was going to be good. But the dumplings had such a gentle bite, weren't overly heavy and were loaded with sauce and tasty filling. Good meal, overall.
  11. Is the cacio e pepe back on the menu? Checked their online menu and didn't find anything but I guess they might just not have updated it. Or did you order off-menu? I love a good cacio e pepe, so I might have to make a return trip soon.
  12. One of the things from my childhood that has stuck in my mind is how we were friends with the family across the street and this family loved the Peking Duck restaurant. The husband and wife had been regulars for over 25 years and routinely brought their children there for birthdays and other celebrations. When the husband became deathly ill, his wife notified the chef at Peking Duck and he immediately rushed over to the hospital with three whole ducks, carved them right in the hospital room and served all of us. As a child who grew up in New York, I wasn't used to seeing such overwhelming generosity and selflessness. It was really something.
  13. I know this is almost three years old but for anyone who's been asking themselves the same question, I'm quite fond of most of the food served at RT's, including the Jambalaya. It's located on Mt Vernon Ave in the Del Ray area north of Old Town Alexandria
  14. A Sunday lunch works best for me, since I'm disabled and have to bring my home nurse everywhere I go. I have a different home nurse every day and my most capable one works on Sundays and leaves in the late afternoon.
  15. Corduroy, particularly the Red Snapper Bisque, is my rec. Quite possibly the best dish I've had in this entire city.
