  1. I outdid myself on the turkey this year. Best I have had at any thanksgiving in my life and my guests were saying the same thing.
  2. These kinds of reviews are always a dead giveaway that the reviewer has no idea what they're on about. It takes upwards of 24 hours to get food poisoning, so if you're getting sick, it's not because of something you ate an hour prior. (excepting of course when you over-eat and get a tummy ache)
  3. Unless they mean no added salt, I don't think it's physically possible to make a dish that doesn't contain salt. Also curious what a lasagna soup entails.
  4. Cosmopolitan Grill is great. Had the trout once and was a fan. It's right next to the Gold's Gym so it's a no-brainer for a post-workout meal.
  5. Drippings will always be better but if you already have turkey stock ready to go, it will do fine in a pinch. http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2013/11/basic-turkey-gravy-thanksgiving-recipe.html
  6. Mamma's Kitchen is 5 minutes away from me and pretty much what the OP describes Mamma's Kitchen has been our family spot for years. It's close by and they're very consistent. It's been run by the same Greek family since it opened. It's casual, family friendly comfort food. The menu is made up of various cliches like fettuccine alfredo and lasagna, but also a smattering of Greek dishes like mousakka. Nothing very adventurous, but the food is good, everything is made fresh and there's zero chance you'll leave hungry. And the gyros are great.
  7. Well I'm in the joint. Again. I would appreciate any and all visits especially if food is brought () Guess it's back to a diet of Pho Cyclo and Elephant Jumps
  8. "the Dabney will open with a compact menu of nine small plates and family-style entrees." The menu isn't available yet so I wonder if this means nine small plates and nine entrees or nine dishes total. Assuming the former.
  9. When I was in the hospital a month and a half ago for three weeks, I ordered GrubHub delivery from Lost Dog Cafe. Now keep in mind that prior I had been sustaining myself entirely on hospital food but I thought the baked ziti I ordered was quite good. Very homey, like something my grandma might have served for one of her Christmas feasts she did every year.
  10. Screw that, Paisanos gives you free Garlic Knots with any order over 25 bucks (two-person household means this isn't hard to accomplish)
  11. No but I tried the similarly named Vocelli's once. Never tried it again. It's been so long that I don't really remember what put me off. Just mediocre all around. Before Paisanos opened up a location near me, I would order my pies from a local joint called Juliano's and I liked them but my main beef was the cheese to sauce to crust ratio. Too much crust, too much cheese, but not enough of the red stuff. Tried Paisanos on a whim and never went back. Now all this said, I'm someone who has never strayed from a plain slice. Okay I'll make an exception for Neapolitan Margheritas and White Clam Pies. So of the three joints I've mentioned, I can only speak for the plain jane cheese offerings. Still, of the three, Paisanos wins in basically every metric that actually matters (to me, anyway). The cheese to sauce ratio is spot-on, and I never ran into the problem of the first bite having that gloriously stretchy cheese that pulls away from your mouth in long strands before letting go and then the subsequent bites being... not that. Every bite is that. The sauce has a nice subtle kick to it. You might not even notice it your first bite, but it slowly reveals itself over time. I don't want to give you the wrong idea. This isn't spicy pizza. It is pizza that uses spices in a way I enjoy. It's good eats. It's not going to stand up to the better DC area joints like WiseGuys or 2Amys or (I could go on)... But it's damn good for munching on in the privacy of your own home This is just my experience from my location. I cannot speak for any of the non-Alexandria locations. On my Facebook, I recently mentioned I had a pizza delivered in record time: 16 minutes. It was from Paisanos
  12. Pretty sure there's a Paisano's in that area. They're my delivery option of choice where I live. Can't say I've ever dined in, though and I can only speak for their pies but I've been a loyal customer ever since they opened a location near me.
  13. 100% of people who ever lived also died.
  14. The difference to the consumer is a psychological one, which makes a huge difference in how the customer perceives their dining experience. Seeing the "real" price clear as day before you order means the consumer doesn't feel deceived. Whether this "deception" is real or perceived doesn't actually matter one iota. Yes, on an intellectual level, I can calculate tip and add it onto the listed menu price in my head to get the "real" price but just because I can -- and will -- do this (and let's face it, a lot of people don't, whether because they forget, don't feel like it or are just plain incapable) doesn't mean my primitive monkey brain is immune to post-meal sticker shock.
  15. If you have a Costco membership, they sell it by the case at basically all their stores. (sorry if this is getting too off topic! I originally mentioned it because Momofoku serves it as well, according to their online menu.)
  16. and sometimes I think I'm missing out when the doctor told me all those years ago that I am effectively banned from drinking alcohol of any sort. I'll stick with old faithful: good ol' fashioned real-sugarcane Mexican Coke
  17. This is my favorite book of all time. I read through it every year like clockwork. The Eschaton match is my favorite part in the book.
  18. Seems to be its own thing. The current menu has a mix of Chang's most iconic dishes (minus the fried chicken, most notably) as well as a few new ones (old bay pork rinds, a selection of salads are the ones that catch my eye), from what I can see. Interesting that the article mentions that just days ago, he had no plans to carry over the pork buns or the ramen but as you can see, they made the cut in the end. Good thing too as I think not having those dishes would have been a pretty big mistake. http://momofuku.com/dc/ccdc/menu/#
