  1. I do visit the Arlington and Mclean stores for beer when I'm throwing a party of visiting my son. I'm still trying to convince my son to shop the selection at Arrowwine and favor the local vendor. I did convince him to blindly buy me Aslin beer whenever he gets to the brewery I Herndon. On a related note, that same son dated one of the Trone(total beverage owner) Daughters when he was in high school.
  2. Another great night of small plates at Level with a few friends. This place never disappoints and the crowds seem to agree. I’ve never had anything awful here, most small plates are very good and the cocktails spectacular.
  3. Vin is in Eastport on a residential street. Around the corner is a strip mall that is showing its age but has the Eastport Kitchen and Adams Ribs, both fallbacks when Vin has a 2 hour wait.
  4. On a Thursday night in the non tourist season Vin has a small, 10 minute wait at 730. We shared a salad, scallop entrée and white flatbread with Lamb Sausage. This place is still rocking on all cylinders as they execute well. They had just rolled out a new seasonal menu but I didn't notice much difference then before. This would be on my usual rotation except that it always has a wait and there are many other great choices in Naptown.
  5. The phylo nest scallop appetizer at the bar is why you come here. And the tables outside in the summer.
  6. I had catering from Edmart visiting friends nearby. The appetizing fish was great and reminded me of living in NY. I was told that they cook their own meats and may ever make Knishes, let me know what you find out.
  7. Curious as to why this doesn't get more mention as the cocktails are as good as most in DC and the prices at $12 for a craft cocktail far better. Food has never disappointed and the menu is always changing. Was here for New Years Eve and it was a great friendly crowd without any pretensions. Curious why folks on this board who live in Columbia, Laurel or Bowie will drive to DC but not Annapolis.
  8. I dined at Del Mar last night. Most fortunate that someone had recently given me a 100 certificate and the stars aligned as a 3pm Caps game brought me to the district from Annapolis. The space is very nice and on a frigid Sunday evening they did fill most tables on the 1st floor once. The food was very good and service was spectacular. Our server served us the initial portion from most of the tapas we ordered. The shrimp were great, roasted beet salad was extraordinary, the eggplant was great and the raw smoked sausage was very good through my wife decline the raw sausage. Still hungry we shared a grilled Dorade which was expertly deboned tableside. I'll definitely go back for the outdoor dining experience. The menu can be approached many ways but I would steer clear of the cheese as we saw another table get one triangle slice for $12 which is close to 200/lb. Parking is expensive but convenient.
  9. I have bought but not consumed a few cans of wine. Very specific use cases. Cooler by my pool- Glass is to be avoided at all costs in pool and surrounding deck. Boat-Easy to pack a few cans of wine with the cans of beer for picnic on the boat.
  10. Another brewery, great location in city. Solid food great beer. https://www.bierfabriek.com/amsterdam/
  11. Best breakfast in Amsterdam, went 4 days in a row !! http://omelegg.com/
  12. Since we were with my two sons in their 20s we drank a lot of beer. Great Bike tour http://www.mikesbiketoursamsterdam.com/ Nice Windmill Brewery http://www.brouwerijhetij.nl/?lang=en Delerium café in Belgium, we ate from every Shwarma vendor on the same block. All great.

    Herring

Katz's on Boiling Brook Parkway in Rockville has herring. Pretty sure behind the appetizing counter in house made while they also have jars of pickled and creamed herring as well.
  14. Tomorrow Dec 20, Aslin has a tap takeover at Rustico in Ballston.
  15. This is a huge loss. I attended several Bastille day dinners that Francois held in Gaithersburg, volunteered and took several classes in Bethesda back in the day and have enjoyed great food from many graduates. Always top notch, educational and fun. Francois was a force to reckon with and his staff top notch. This is a huge void in the area both for professional as well as recreational chefs.
  16. My son recently turned me on to Aslin and I have have picked up from the brewery once about 2 weeks ago. Perhaps the freshest and best beet in the DC area.
  17. Bern's is amazing. I need to go back. Next Tuesday with my wife and 2 sons at Lewnes in Annapolis I'll be bringing 1990 Bordeaux and 1993 Napa Cabernet, birth year wines which have been stored well. Lewnes is old school and IMHO kicking ass on Ruth Chris down the block.
  18. Participated in a paired wine dinner at Grapes last Sunday. The wines were from Carpenter, a small Sonoma producer, whose winemaker presented each wine. All great. All 5 courses were great but what Blew me away was a seared Scallop on a squash puree with micro greens and Bacon Powder. BACON POWDER rocks. Repeat. BACON POWDER was amazing. This is a casual wine bar whose chef has elevated the food to a "Bold" rating. Given that the kitchen is smaller then what I have at home, his prep and vision are creating some well executed and solid cuisine.
  19. Didn't do any fine dining but drank a ton of micro and nano brews all over town. And sailed in the Pacific, which was excellent.
  20. I have some 90 and 93, birth year wines for each of my sons. Probably the oldest I've drank as well.
  21. Heading to San Diego at the end of the month for 3 days to catch up with my son, the travelling engineer. Open to suggestions local to San Diego, hopefully with great water views. Thinking fish tacos, brewpubs, great seafood and Mexican.
  22. Reading these posts convinced me it isn't likely I'll ever eat here. I lean toward fresh and different versus refined and rich. Once you get into this price range it quickly gets to high end NYC dining which seems to have no limits.
