  1. 3am dinner at Yechon after a long night of work was a satisfying experience. We ordered Bibimbap, kalbe and some noodle dish with fish cake and overall enjoyed our dishes, but I´m not in love. Bibimbap was awesome, but I do like my egg less cooked or maybe an extra egg will do, all around great combinations of flavors. Kalbe was not that great and a bit dried out, I get a better rendition at Lighthouse (but I just made a mental note to try the bbq place silentbob mentioned). The noodles were some kind of stir fry dish with peppers, onions, fish cake and some intense sauce (kind of like fish sauce, could it be oyster sauce?), it was good but not great. I have to highlight the kimchee as my favorite food of the night as it was both crunchy and spicy.
  2. I´m still watching, but there are too many contestants still to be able to form an opinion. I´m waiting for the fat to be trimmed to 10 contestants to start, I guess the playing field is so leveled this season that its hard to fall in love with someone. Season 1 by the first episode I already liked Harold, Season 2 i really liked marcel, season 3 i liked hung, this season my love is up for grabs
  3. Very Very expensive, but some of the best meat I´ve purchased around here is at Wagshals.
  4. 180 plus 40 tip (I forgot to mention i got a bottle of wine $32)
  5. I almost forgot to add one of the most interesting combinations of sushi I´ve ever had, containing fried spring onions, quail egg yolk (raw) and bonito flakes. Amazing! It kind of tasted like a bacon egg and cheese sandwich
  6. Awesome meal at sushi ko in glover park. After all the great restaurants in the city popping up left and right, Sushi Ko is one of my favorites in the city. +1 and I sat at the bar and put ourselves in Koji's hands, starting off with the smoked mussel and eggplant soup and lobster and asparagus soup. After that we had the following dishes: Sashimi plate: medium fatty tuna, corbia, flounder, and a bunch of creative combinations of fish sea urchin and caviar (I wish I could remember these in detail) Sushi plate #1: salmon belly, fatty tuna and filet mignon tuna (thats what Koji called it) Sushi plate #2: tuna tartar with shitake tempura, tuna tartar with jalapeno and carrot tempura sushi plate #3: salmon 4 ways sushi (salmon roe, belly, smoked salmon, salmon skin and avocado) for desert we shared fried banana and vanilla ice cream, which was good (nothing special) I love this place
  7. Is it a good idea to go to Sushi Ko (in Glover Park) today? or do you think they are spread too thin with the new location now open?
  8. yup. That´s exactly what it sounds like...
  9. el tamarindo sucks (not sure if thats what you were referring to with El Tam), but I would love to read about Casa Oaxaca. I have never been and when i think of mexican i don´t think twice and head to oyamel, has anyone been recently? is it worth a try?
  10. Went to Pesce on monday and as usual had a great time, ordered the following dishes: - caesar salad with boquerones - I´m a sucker for boquerones - tuna tartar - If you like the carpaccio at west end bistro, pesce´s tartar has a similar olive oil infused flavor - grilled sardines - EXCELLENT - mussels in white wine - nothing to say about this dish - sauteed giant prawns - finally a prawn that has rich deep flavor, not the usual tasteless shrimp you get everywhere - seared fresh cod - Great piece of fish and good sauce (some kind of soy + demi= good sauce) - Guayaquil chocolate tart - not really into deserts but a good way to end. Nice bitter chocolate that wasn't too rich all with the help of Jose Pariente 2006.
  11. Everything is good at Tosca, this place is awesome. But as i said a couple posts above, you must try the rabbit pasta dish and foie gras ETA the Risoto is really good
  12. What time do you usually go out to eat there? If its during the usual 7-9 time, you could try going out to eat at different hours. There is a difference b/w a restaurant being noisy and the restaurant itself just being packed, which is not the restaurant's fault just too many people in a small space. Sorry for going on a tangent but at 7:30 any restaurant is busy and loud. I'm not assuming that you go out at that time, just making a point i guess.
  13. Are they still doing small plates. I used to love Bar Pilar when Josh and Bart were working there, but stopped ever since he left for hook. I have the urge to return
  14. If it´s anywhere close to flor de la canela in Gaithersburg then this place should be pretty good.
  15. Jaleo has a bloody mary with gazpacho. Haven´t tried it, so I cant vouch for it, but it is different
  16. Cleveland Park wine and liquor store on connecticut carries a decent selection of greek wines.
  17. I´m going Yee Hwa for lunch with some people from work and I was wondering if anyone has been here before. Aside from telling me i should go elsewhere, is there anything i should order that is good there?
  18. For the past 4 months or so I have gathered a group of friends (some in the restaurant business) and we start around 6ish hopping by a 3-4 restaurants sampling some food and drinks that we research as something great each place has to offer. Of course I have used this site and others to figure out what restaurants and what dishes/drinks we can´t miss. There are a few rules here: 1. Each place has to be walking distance from the next 2. You cannot order more than a taste at each place, to ensure that there is enough room to move on to the next location. 3. DC only Some of the routes we have chosen are: 1. Taberna del Alabardero - Restaurant Kolumbia - kinkeads 2. PS7 - Poste - Tosca 3. Taberna del Alabardero - Zaytinya - Proof (ok, so i broke rule 1 here) The problem is that I´m running out of ideas and I know there are so many options... Can you suggest a group of restaurants we could try? if you are interested in joining, please let me know so we can include you? Thanks in advance
  19. I'm a huge fan of the creamy caesar salad at Hank's and for the not so creamy caesar, I tend to enjoy Oyamel's version
  20. What about the Ritz - what a fine establishment that was/is? [Assuming you're talking about the Ritz Cabaret "Gentlemen's Club," I cannot find the opening date, and don't know if they serve(d) food. If anyone can help, please do!]
