  1. Have you been to Thai X-ing? Have you met Taw? Why not? I don't want to say much more, because if I do, I might find you all there on a Tuesday night, standing in line, keeping me from my salmon with red curry.
  2. Happy Birthday Bill, Sshorter and Jeff C!!
  3. Hi Anna! I had a blast at the market today. I brought my rommate to the market, and he marveled at my process (I circled the market at least three times) and at the fact that so many of my "food friends" were there. I think he will stay at home next time! I bought strawberries, rhubarb, yo-lite yogurt, sugar snap peas, and ground buffalo.
  4. Shepherdstown I was there two years ago. Try Three Onions Restaurant and Lounge, which opened in 2005, and Shararazade's Exotic Tea Room (for fun and if you like tea).
  5. You're killing me. Please, stop. I will be in Chicago on June 3, 2007. I bought my ticket (to attend my goddaughter's graduation) before the picnic date was announced. I am scheduled to return to dc at 7 pm on the 3rd. Are you really going to make me change my ticket or fly stand by? The graduation is on Friday and the big party is on Saturday (yes, I am rationalizing), so I won't be mssing anything. I was deeply committed to my plans until I read this post. Now, the gloves are off, and I will have to reconsider my approach. Damn website!
  6. I did not reach my goal. Darn! Drat! Damn! #%*#! My weight has been on a rollercoaster the last two months. Right now, I am down about nine pounds, which is great. I'll post more in my thread. Congrats to all who made it!!!
  7. I wish it was located somewhere else, too, youngfood. As you may know, I cross the bridge, but I rarely cross 25th Street, NW. Damn it!
  8. This is totally brilliant. I drank on a plane for the first time two weeks ago (turbulence; thought the end was near), and I believe that it is a highly-underrated experience. When you add the chilled-wine, barf bag angle, it's over the top.
  9. I'm glad that you clarified this, legant. Otherwise, we, the people, would have been forced to revoke your card.
  10. Any interest in Vegetate? They have a liquor license, and half-priced small plates on Thursdays. How about Thursday, May 24 or Thursday, June 14th?
  11. This is all I have to say. I had dinner tonight in the cafe. I know some of you wonder why anyone would go to Palena and order the burger. Well, I'll tell you why. It's because that burger is one of the single best items of food ever prepared on the planet. It is high art, a revelation, a masterpiece. If I should find myself on death row or on my death bed and still able to eat, I want a Palena burger, mom's mac and chesse, a glass of red wine, and a Palena burger for dessert. Congrats!
  12. This is horrible news. The pictures break my heart. I lived on the hill for eight years, and spent countless moments at the market. On many Saturday mornings, I would get up and go to the Market Lunch to "order" my breakfast, which Mary, who is now deceased, knew by heart: french toast, eggs over well, maple syrup, bottle of water. My mom went to the market last saturday before she drove home, and she was shocked this morning when I called to give her the news. From what I understand, what's left of the "O" Street Market is being converted into a new Giant.
  13. Just go, sit on the old town square all day, and drink (and eat). Start at 11 a.m., and stay until night has fallen, or at least until dusk. Really. It doesn't get much better than that. There is no need to see the prague castle that dates to the 1300s. Pictures are available on the web. If you have time, rent a car and drive to postcard-beautiful cesky krumlov, where you will find good food, friendly people, and beautiful sites.
  14. I went to Komi tonight for the first time, and I am speechless. I will post more tomorrow (when I am solidly sober) about the food and Derek's amazing wine pairings, but I will tell you that my very picky friend said of the chef, "This guy isn't practicing, is he?" No, he isn't. Not even a little bit.
  15. LaShanta, PM me. My brother's bbq will knock you off your socks. He caters. Congratulations!!
  16. Dude (Ferhat), You're killing me, too! You are the best! You should know that we are prepared to put together a caravan and follow you wherever you go. Thanks for everything. Monique
  17. Thanks for starting this thread, Bill. I'm happy to see it on a day like today, when I am beginning--again. 1. I feel better. 2. I have saved money by making my breakfast and lunch (not so much this last month) and by eating out less frequently. 3. My blood sugar (which can get low) has been much more stable. 4. I've lost some weight (although i'm not sure what my current total is--will post more about this in my thread). 5. I can fit more of my clothes!!! 6. I've had the opportunity to be inspired and motivated by all of you! I would not have make this progress on my own.
  18. I think I am heading to the patio at Viridian after a stroll along the tidal basin. What a beautiful day!
