  1. any new suggestions? i need a recommendation for a friend. nothing too pricey. i suggested taberna del alaberdero and the half price tapas.
  2. i was there like a week or two after it opened. it was game 2 of the nba finals, so whenever that was. i also had some service issues, but i don't really feel like adding to the pile. but can we look at the positives? it's good food in a relaxed atmosphere that will be perfect for football season. give them some time to get their system down. p.s. on the night i was there it was a packed and from what i could tell there were only 2 waiters for the whole place. my waiter had like 6-8 tables at once. so imagine that plus the first week they were open? that sounds like a nightmare to me
  3. i posted this in help needed but didn't get much of a response so i thought i'd look her for some help. i'm trying to pick between 3 restaurants for dinner later this week. i haven't been to any of them but i've wanted to try them all for a while now. the 3 are the source, farrah olivia, and indebleu. what are your thoughts about their food/ atmosphere/ price? THANK YOU!
  4. went there last weekend for an after bar meal. the kafta kabob was really dry. i wouldn't go there unless it was 2 am

  6. i've decided that i want to learn how to cook things other than grilled cheese sandwhiches, but i don't really know where to start. my first few tries have been ok but not great. any tips for a beginner?
  7. Help me pick a place to eat tonight. I'm trying to decide between vidalia and farrah olivia. What are your thoughts? food? atmosphere? presentation? *oh and of course cost and value
  8. I'm going here this sometime this week for dinner. What's the dress code like there? Would a shirt and tie and a cocktail dress seem out of place?
  9. i went there for RW the other night. here are my positives and negatives. positives: service (overall) - they were very attentive, placed my napkin on my lap for me. were fast and polite decor - the inside is pretty nice entree - i had some fish. i think it was hake. it was good, not great. dessert - this was by far the best part of the meal. the citrus praline tart was amazing. unfortunately they only make it for restaurant week. i might go back during lunch just for that negatives: service - (for me) the service was good, but i personally didn't like it. it was just too formal for me. i can see why some people like it, but i personally don't need to be pampered all dinner. appetizer - some shrimp salad sandwhich. it was not good. seating - they were about half full at the very most, prob closer to 30%. yet we still got stuck sitting in between 2 other tables. the tables were like 2 feet apart. it was very cramped and we were basically forced to listen into other people's conversations. overall, i liked it. i can't say whether or not i'd go regularly since none of the restaurant week menu, besides the sushi, is available on a regular basis. also, i did hear the server tell the next table that their sushi chef is the only master sushi chef in dc. i don't know if that is true or not. had my waiter told me that, i would've had the sushi.
  10. I was there for restaurant week last night. The service was good. They were fast, polite, not too stuffy. I don't like it when places overdo it. they did fold ur napkins when u got up, which was nice, but also unnecessary. the food was really good. i had the scallop appetizer. it was very good. it was served with some kind of nut with a little lemon zest. the lemon zest really made the dish for me. for my entree i had the venison. it was ok. it came with radish and some kind of buttery sauce. if i had i do over i would've picked the snapper that my mother picked. i don't know how they made it but it was delicious. it was everyone's favorite at the table. for dessert i had an italian citrus cake. it was like a citrus flavored pound cake. it was pretty light and subtle, which i liked. overall this was a pretty good restaurant week experience. they had a full house and the food still came out really quickly. the food was good, pretty big portions for restaurant week. the only negatives were that it was too loud (according to my parents) and they didn't have refills on soda. my sister drank 8 dollars worth of coke! but i guess i can't really complain if i'm paying 6 dollars for a beer or 10 dollars for a glass of wine. i would definitely go back.
  11. i just became an opentable vip member. anyone know what being vip gets u? it seems like not a whole lot
  12. thanks for the tips. if it were up to me, i would pick places based on the food. but i think everyone i'm going with really just wants to go for the atmosphere. so i'm keeping viridian for my parents and i changed corduroy to cafe mozu. i really wanted to go to corduroy but oh well. i will just have to go during a regular week.
  13. i have reservations at viridian and courdouroy. i'm going with my parents one night and a friend the other night. which place is more suitable for my parents and which place is better for friends. i'm 23 if that helps.
  14. has anyone been there recently? has the food/service gotten any better? and what kind of dress code is there?
  15. I'm going to NYC next weekend. I don't know anything about the restaurants there. I'm staying in the financial district. anybody have any suggestions for good restaurants down or near that area? i'm going with 5 other guys in the mid 20's so i'm looking for anything too fancy. i would like to try something more adventurous but i'm not sure all my friends would be up for it.
  16. i need help picking between 3 restaurants. viridian, butterfield 9, or indique? if u could only pick 1 for restaurant week, which would it be?
  17. please share your experience
  18. what's a good and relatively cheap place to get dumpling to go in dc or va?
  19. did u check the dining guide section of this board?
  20. yea, i've heard that they are making renovations. i've heard there were health code violations. but right now those are just rumors. any definite word yet?
  21. i don't want to make any assumptions, but it seems like you've never been a server before. if u have, then i apologize. but to everyone who has not been a waiter and has complained about service or special requests, just try to put urself in their shoes. u really don't know until u've been on the other side. sure, it wouldn't be that hard to ring up seperate checks for 3 or 4. but 13??? that's a little bit excessive. and if it must be done, just try to be patient. waiters are there to serve u, but they aren't your slaves.
  22. i like 3 things from my restaurant websites: 1.) contact info (telephone no., address, etc) 2.) up to date menu WITH prices. 3.) pictures of the actual restaurant.
