  1. They must be having a lot of problems getting started. There's a countdown clock on their website and for the last few months it's counted down to a couple of weeks and then reset and counted down again and reset again, etc. Hope they're for real.
  2. Against our better judgement (we were tired and hungry) decided to order burgers and fries from Elevation Burger (Park Potomac location) last night. My on line pre-paid order included regular fries and cheese fries. When I showed up, receipt in hand, they insisted I had paid for only one order of fries, even though the receipt said otherwise. After much back and forth, finally got both fries. Our punishment ensued. The burger was tasteless and the fries were sopping wet with oil. PS, lobster rolls are off the menu at BGR. The reason given is that the lobster rolls are "seasonal." As far as I know the fall is the peak of Maine's lobster season, so what gives?
  3. The best shakes we ever had were in Ocean City at Dumser's Dairyland. We took the kids there every summer when we went to the boardwalk. My favorite was the black and white (chocolate syrup and vanilla ice cream). The shake was so thick they served it with a huge straw that stood straight up in the middle of the cup. Don't know what the ingredients were, although I think the ice cream may have been previously frozen (happy face).
  4. Ok, if the lobster roll at Red Hook or BGR was made of chemicals, but tasted good, fine, I see DR's point. But if the lobster was cooked yesterday or last week, who cares? Let's get on with it and enjoy ourselves.
  5. The lobster at Hank's was always very good. But when the lobster roll went to $23, the price for a medium amount of lobster outweighed the trip downtown or to Old Town. Red Hook is a great value, if you can get to the truck. Mussel Bar is pretty decent too, but our favorite right now is BGR. For $15 you get a very generous amount of very fresh lobster, very lightly dressed. We think it's The best taste to value ratio in DC area. As DR pointed out, the lobster roll from BGR may taste fresh to me, but it may not have been alive that day and it may even have been frozen. At any rate I still think it tastes better and is a better value than the lobster roll at Freddies.
  6. Wow, cranky aren't we! I'm trying to keep this on a sincere track, with a little humor thrown in for good measure. Isn't this an open forum? I don't want to avoid Medium Rare or any other restaurant. I want eat where I want eat, but just not with dogs. I'm allowed that opinion, right?
  7. Forgot one thing (hope I don't sound like Columbo). I like to eat inside in winter and outside in summer. Both are the same, except location, to me. Same menu, same prices, same food, I hope. So, the fact that a dog is eating dinner with me outside, rather than inside, just does not resonate with me.
  8. Yikes, some people don't seem to get the "anti-dog" thing. I'm sure some peoples' dogs, and even their owners, are smart, sensitive, and well behaved. Yet there are many people who do not want to eat dinner (for whatever reason) with a dog. Especially when they are eating dinner at a nIce restaurant. So, really the only question is, who takes precedence, the human or the dog?
  9. I don't care what anyone says. I'm going to the Inn at Little Washington tonight (inside) and I'm bringing my dog and that's that!
  10. As to the pizza, the SO and I have been here a couple of times in the past two weeks and can attest that the mushroom and the prosciutto are wonderful (ask for extra crispy though).
  11. Good news. As of a couple of years ago, Montgomery County lets you bring home the balance of your wine as long as it's recorked and bagged.
  12. Yikes, I think I might have gotten a little carried away when I started this yesterday. On second thought (and as the SO scolded me), I was a wee bit harsh. I wasn't criticizing the review of MR, I actually liked the review. I just don't like dropping a hundred bucks or more and having to sit next to a dog. Call me crazy.
  13. When did it become ok to brIng a dog to (not to Starbucks or macdonalds), but to a real restaurant -- as if you were bringing an actual person? Don't we realize that the other diners believe they're going out to dinner, not to a dog Park? We need to stop this self-absorbed, I deserve to do anything I want, mentality. Please have some respect for your fellow... person.
  14. The bar scene in North Bethesda (in reality, Rockville) is very nice. There's a piano player behind the bar who plays and sings pop standards from the60's to the 80's. She has a very good voice, but is a little sleepy for my taste. The upside is that the noise level is pretty low, so conversation is easy. Both times I was there, the bar was full, but not crowded. It's a very good place for a before or after dinner drink and dessert.
  15. We hadn't eaten here in a while and are happy to report that the pizzas we ate at Mia's last night were as great as ever. We had the Mia's, a little tomato sauce topped with mozzarella and the mushroom, mixed shrooms and cheese, both perfect. For us, it's all about the crust. Mia's crust is thin, but chewy, yeasty and salty, with a nice char and, thankfully, not a bit of soupiness.
  16. Interesting that Mussel Bar's website now says the lobster roll costs $19 at dinner and comes with regular fries instead of sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries will set you back another $4, so the original $14 deal from last year will now cost an astounding $23.
  17. OMG, just had a takeout order of lobster, sweet potato fries and onion rings from BGR Potomac. The lobster roll is three joined slider rolls, a TON of lobster, a touch of mayo, and a little romaine. It was fabulous! How can they give you so much lobster for 15 bucks? I should have weighed the meat, but it looked sooo good, I couldn't wait. I'm estimating a pound of claw and knuckle meat-I kid you not. The sweet potato fries and rings were great too, not greasy at all. BTW, I am not associated with this place at all, just a happy neighbor.
  18. Their grind is very random. I like the Guatemala ground for a paper cone filter. You would think all their machines are standardized, but each Starbucks grinds it differently - Sometimes too fine, sometimes too coarse. My solution was to only buy the coffee beans at the one Starbucks that gets it right.
  19. So we went to Freddy's for lunch when we found out Pizzeria Da Marco was closed. A little shaky, but, duh, it's their very first lunch. At lunch, you order at the counter and they bring your lunch to the table. Pretty efficient service for their first day. Fried whole belly clams: delish! Onion rings: way too greasy. Fried shrimp: ok. Iceberg lettuce salad: brown lettuce and pink under-ripe tomatoes. White clam chowder:excellent, lots of clams, not too heavy. Service staff: very pleasant, trying their best. We will be back.
  20. Excited to go there for lunch today. There's a big sign out front that says "OPEN" and their website touts their lunch menu and their lunch hours. UNFORTUNITELY, a little sign on their door says "closed for lunch." very disappointing first experience.
  21. Ate lunch at Bethesda location today. Quinoa and arugula salad was very good and nicely composed. Service, though, was awful. Waitress was surly and ridiculously slow. A quick lunch turned into an hour of torture.
