  1. I guess small minds think alike? To make blanket statements about a community is thinking small! I have been to 2 Amy's many times, as well as Comet. This may come as a shocker, but most of the people are not eating the soft-shell crab or more adventurous pizza. If the pizza's here are able to serve two people for about $20, then that would make them cheaper than 2 Amy's or Comet, as these are single servings pies. Additionally, on my last vast to Comet a few weeks ago, families with 2 or more kids had taken over the place, and some were even sharing pies!
  2. I thought it was bit much for the "Food Section".
  3. I am headed to Kyoto for a week in June, and I am looking for suggestions on where to eat. I have heard that Kyoto is not as westernized as Tokyo, so I am looking for some very authentic food experiences. Thanks.
  4. My Weber Performer arrived last night, I was not expecting it in green, but I like the color. Any suggestions out there on the first thing I should cook? I am thinking about pork burgers and maybe some ribs or even fish. Is lump charcoal that much better than Kingsford?
  5. Not if you know what Anguilla has to offer. When I travel, I eat local, besides half the Chefs are from DC.
  6. The burger in the New York Times looks better than the one in Post.
  7. If there is Island for people who love food this is it. We spent the first four days of our honeymoon at Cap Juluca (the food sucked) in 2004, and there are some real gems on this island. The only bad meal we had was the one night we had dinner at the Cap. This seems like a nice event, but almost a waste to go there and limit yourself to just food at the hotel, when you have restaurants like Blanchards and grilled lobster, cray fish and rum punch lunches at Scilly Cay (a little private island off Anguilla) among others that we tried. We spend the next four days on St. Barths, which is a short flight from Anguilla, and the food was just as good but more expensive than Anguilla. For way way under $6,000 you split your time between these two islands during the off season and eat very well.
  8. I am with Dan on this one buddy.
  9. I disagree with this. Do you ever notice how everthing is always good on the Food Network shows? How could everthing you put in you mouth be so good and to your liking. It's really dishonest, and a disservice to the viewers. I remember a show Rachel Ray did on DC, she was at hotel downtown (I forget the name, but you there are great views of the White House from the rooftop patio), and she ordered a dessert that was prepared tableside on the patio with stunning views of the White House. I was new to the DC area at the time, so my wife and I went to that hotel one night after dinner with some friends to have that dessert. Well, the view and the patio were there, but you could not have any food on the patio, only drinks. From that day forward I never trusted anything I saw on those Food Network travel shows.
  10. I would like to move in with you I have to ask how to you have time to cook like this everynight? I admire and envy you. We only get around to doing on really good Sunday Supper, and we eat the leftovers and other quick items during the week.
  11. I am excited. I just ordered the Weber Performer, which I will have on Thursday! It's been almost five years since I have cooked on a grill, since moving to the DC area I have only lived in apartment buildings that would not allow me to grill. Now I have a deck of my own, and it's time to go to work. I just wish my neighbor to the left would clean his yard of all the bird feed thats attracting so many birds to my deck
  12. If a manager said that to me It would have left an unpleasant taste in my mouth as well. How smug. Excuses are tools of incompetence.......
  13. I just called, and they don't take reservations. I can't risk it with an 8:00 show. They only had reservations for 5 and 5:30, which is around the time I will be leaving work. Being so close to the center, they should at least have reserved tables until 7:00pm on show nights. Below is what is listed on the website, maybe it should be revised. As it seems that reservations are only accepted on a limted basis, which seems to be those times stated above. Reservation Policy Reservations Are Accepted For Dinner Every Evening, Monday Through Saturday
  14. Arrowine still sells Kill Devil coffee, good stuff.
  15. Am I the only one that thinks softshell crabs are overrated? They always seem to be more shell than meat. I just don't get the hype. I would rather have a crab cake.
  16. I not sure it's knee jerk. The last time I was at Central the service sucked, and the food did not seemed to be as good. After two visits to Beck's I would say they are doing a better job overall with service and food. Let's see what happens after the review.
  17. Those crab cakes were good, as well as the meatloaf and roast chicken we sampled last night. The green beans and mashed potatoes that came with the meatloaf were outstanding. I am trying the warm cookies and milkshake on my next visit. We settled on the carrot cake for dessert last night and that was very good as well. Folks, Majestic Cafe is serving what may be the most expensive sweet ice tea in the world! I am from the south, so I may be a little bias here, but $3 for ice tea is a bit much IMHO. Other than that you should be able to find some solid comfort food here.
  18. I think it's ok to post if the experience was good. What is the harm?
