  1. I like matchbox, I really do. However, I don't understand why it has been reviewed three times! It has been reviewed every two years at this point.
  2. Lots of good stuff to look forward to in a well designed space; they even have a coffee bar! I don't have time to go into great detail but we ate some pretty good stuff last night. I don't see myself ever ordering wine here; the beer list has too many good selections to pass up ever and what I drunk last night match well with the food. Country Pate (served with some really good pearl onions) Shrimp Croquettes (wait until you see the size of these) Fried Skate with spinach (this was so good) French Fries, served with three mayos (the curry mayo was out of this world) Potato Gratin (will put all others to shame), for an additional $4 you can have this with pork belly! Duck Breast (very good) - I forget what this dish was called
  3. Has this place been reviewed by the Post yet? I have only been once and thought it was pretty good. It's surprising to me that Tom has not reviewed this place....not that it really matters.
  4. Not a good place for a vegetarian. Maybe he can order some of the side items to make a meal. There is a link up thread to the menu. The prices are not correct, but much of the menu is still the same. It must be hard living with a vegetarian
  5. Nothing groundbreaking here!
  6. No, I actually would have liked it cooked rare, but it appears the execution was off. I don't believe the kitchen would would serve the tuna burger that cold, even at rare!
  7. Ok, Can someone explain to me what the correct temp on the tuna burger should be? My first tuna burger tonight came out ice cold to the touch and in the center, as if it came directly from the fridge to the table I was shocked when I bit into it, as I was expecting at least a warm sandwich, and the whole thing fell to pieces. I ask the waitress to send it back (i never send food back), which she did, she then came back and told me the kitchen liked to cook it rare, hence the reason for the burger being cold. I have had rare tuna before, but this was way too cold to be considered a burger. Anyways, I got a new tuna burger that was nice and warm and very tasty. Has anyone else had the tuna burger? If so,was it served cold!
  8. Does it matter in a "true" bistro? I had a pretty good $30 bottle here and I do not recall the year. Is it fair to jump on Cafe du Parc, about its wine list? Maybe then ran out of room on the menu...who knows.
  9. I actually had the fry plate a few weeks ago (the 1st of April I believe?). I loved the onion rings and the fried lemons. That was my first visit to Palena.
  10. Can you post your pictures? This is truly my favorite restaurant in DC, although I have never been impressed with the wines. I am glad they now have someone in place to take care of the wine program. Komi should have four stars, no doubt! I am certain that it is much better and more creative than Cityzen.
  11. They ONLY produce the coffee that comes in a green package that's "fair trade". The package says "Produced by Starbucks" The coffee that this vendor was using, was the one that Costco sometimes roast on sight. Not that it's bad coffee, I was just expecting something diffrent.
  12. That funny, Don. I was just thinking the other day that Starbucks never smells like coffee. I usually just order regular coffee at Starbucks, which is really not all that bad. I was going to support this vendor the other day, who sells coffee near my office, that is until I saw him using Costco brand coffee.
  13. So, the wife and I decided to give Cafe du Parc a try tonight. I found it found pretty amusing that every person I spoke with tonight was a recent transplant from France (no more than two months in the States) , the hostess, waiter and bartender. I was told, that the entire kitchen staff is from France as well. I must say, that this place is pretty good. It may be closet thing we have in DC to an actual French Bistro, well except for the service being really good. I was even offered coffee after dessert. Anyways, we started with the Terrine de pot-au-feu,which was short ribs and beef shoulder with carrots and leeks in the center, shaped into a terrine, served cold with very good toasted bread. The 24 hour PORK sous-vide came to the table with crispy skin and moist meat. You are offered a choice of any side item with your entree, I would recommend the potatoes with onions and chicken broth (it was like a very good au gratin without the fat)or the leek puree. My wife ordered the very good monkfish tail with pinot noir sauce, the leeks were the recommended side item. I don't know much about wine but the one page list offers at least 10 bottles for $30. I guess I was wrong; there is room for one more good bistro. This place does not have the buzz that Central is getting right now, but I think the food I had tonight was just as good.
  14. Rats, Mice or Roaches running through a restaurant is a big deal to me. Nasty!
