  1. The pizza I had last night was far from world class. I ordered the Pork Sausage, Broccoli Rabe, and Provolone pie, and it was a soggy mess, at best. I was there early at 5 pm and was expecting something great. There was way too much sauce and the only crispy part were the edges; so I ate those edges with the toppings, leaving the soggy center on the plate. For dessert, I got to see Roberto berate the wait staff (in Italian) in front of customers.
  2. One star for a place like this, in New York, is pretty good.
  3. I spent a week in Japan (Kyoto) at the end of June, and the fattest people I saw were Americans with fanny backs . However, it was clear that their food choices are being influenced by the west, and not just American fast food. At the Istean shopping center in Kyoto Station, there are three floors of food, one of which is totally devoted to mostly French bread, pastries and confections of all kinds (at least this stuff was fresh). There were still some traditional Japanese items, but most of what I saw leaned towards Europe. It was also apparent that the Japanese have a love affair with Italian food, but this is taking it too far. There was so much good fresh food in Japan, I am not sure why anyone would eat this. FYI: McDonald's still sells fried apple pies in Japan!!
  4. I have never been here, but the Post reported that the owners are making $18-$20million from selling the building.
  5. Now, Padma, that's a work of art. That was a funny scene, they were drunk as hell. Back to Padma, my new GQ arrived a few days ago, and there a pretty nice layout of her this month. I swear GQ is a much better than esquire. There is a full section on men and cooking. Check the the slideshow of padma out. They left some of the best photos out the this month's issue http://men.style.com/gq/features/landing?id=content_5768
  6. Please tell me you did not wait outside for two hours? I still don't understand why they don't expand, and let people eat at the waiting area/bar next door. I was at a conference a year or so ago, and I was lucky enough to get a seat at the bar around 5 pm one night. I thought the pizza was good, but no better than Two Amys. Nice pictures.
  7. I take that back. I was just watching Giada is DC, and she looked liked she did not like the Duck at Citronelle at all. When did Georgetown move outside of DC? Also, the show did nothing to improve the image of DC dining. At this point Citronelle is a throwback, and it seems to be the only restaurant people know about outside of the area, as if this was a small town.
  8. Can you advise on what DC restaurant made your "Top 50" list?
  9. I agree with Joe on this, except he left Komi out. This guy is here to promote his blog, nothing more.
  10. All I know is this show sucks, and there is a serious lack of diversity on the Food Network. Jag blew it. Who in the hell lies about going to Afghanistan? The only show that really has a real focus on food is Good Eats, other than that, its all about the "star". I don't even want to talk about Paula Dean and her sons. Both those shows are an embarrassment (see Paula Dean in Europe for examples), I am from the south and it almost seems like Paula Dean and her sons are putting on an act. The Food Network could do better, they have in the past (see Sarah Moulton and Mario, and even Emeril).
  11. I don't think Maestro is a chain restaurant. Who is this guy?
  12. I have been to BLT at least four times, and I have never spent $200 (that's more than the tasting menu at Komi) per person, that being said, the wine list is really overpriced, and I think the fish dishes really outshine the steaks. This past week we had an excellent tomato salad with watermelon and feta, the corn and bacon side dish was also good. I agree with you about the wine service. The wine guy just brought the bottle, showed it to me, opened it, poured and left. He did all this without saying one word.
  13. I can't say enough about Komi, I really do think it's the best restaurant for fine dinning! We had a wonderful meal last night. I won't go into too many details, however, the food was great and usual, and the wine parings were spot on. I always thought that wine service was Komi's only weak spot; that has now been corrected. I thought they were a lot of really playful and creative dishes served last night, but the Greek Salad gRANITA was very interesting. It was served as a palate cleanser, with each each ingredient that you would find in a Greek Salad, as its own granita, including balsamic vinagar and feta cheese. When you mixed them all together, it was like eating a frozen Greek Salad. Outstanding meal and service all around.
  14. Huge lost. This guy should have never been stuck in Tysons, in a hotel, all these years.
  15. It just got 2 1/2 stars from Tom. I had breakfast here a couple of weeks ago, and it was pretty bad. However, I have always enjoyed the food at dinner. About a month ago I had the veal dish that was very good. From Tom's review, I suspect they knew who is was, as it appears that he got better service than I ever did.
  16. We just spent 4 days trapped in food hell, in Jamaica. The food at the Round Hill Resort is the worst! Overcooked frozen fish, $30 Jerk Chicken, $15 frozen hamburgers, $25 breakfast buffet, it goes one. There was no way out, unless you wanted to pay $80 for a cab ride to the other side of Mo-bay. I left yesterday, feeling like I have been held up, and taken for everything I had. These people are clearly taken advantage of their guest.
  17. I also noticed my favorite waitress from Komi was here on my recent visit, I wished she had waited on us. I don't recall here name, but the sablefish and those meatballs were pretty good. My wife thought here salmon was a bit overcooked, but still enjoyable.
  18. I wonder how much she got paid for thi? It looks like she is laying in a pool of blood.
  19. For some reason I do not find this sexy. http://www.esquire.com/women/women-we-love...rentiis0807#img
