    I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a restaurant for an early dinner with a toddler this Sunday near Mount Vernon in Baltimore. We're planning to go to the Enoch Pratt Library and maybe the Walters, so we're looking for something in the general vicinity of those locations. Walking distance would be ideal, but we could possibly drive for something great (preferably to an area with not insane parking). I'd love to go to Helmand (I've been before, but it's been about 10 years), but I'm not sure if the husband or the toddler would be up for it. Does anyone have any other recommendations? ETA: I'm thinking restaurants other than Afghan, Indian, Middle Eastern, etc., would probably work best for us. Bonus if they have French fries for the toddler (but not required). Thanks in advance!

    I'm interested in theory, but in reality I don't get to watch many movies these days, and I rarely remember much about any movie I've seen to have a useful discussion more than a few days post viewing. If this gets going I would maybe want to join in in the future.

    I've lived in Silver Spring for a couple of years now but haven't been to Sergio's yet. How do you think they'd feel about a (usually pretty well behaved) 2-year-old diner?

    I was there Wednesday and I'm pretty sure the menu Bart posted is the one we had. Everything was delicious, especially the lobster French toast and the roast chicken!

    I was just at Quill and would second it. It's definitely sophisticated, and they certainly have well crafted cocktails. I thought it bordered on stuffy, but YMMV. I'm not sure if they have a happy hour per se (with deals).

    It is very moving. Arlington National Cemetery and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial are the only two DC tourist sites that actually move me. I take that back -- also, the Holocaust Memorial Museum.

    I was just mentioning reading about this trip to someone yesterday and saying that I'd really like to do something similar some day. I don't know much about Arizona aside from the Grand Canyon (and I don't know much about the Grand Canyon, either!). Maybe I'll plan something when my 2-year-old is a bit older. Thanks for the report!

    Looks like this news has been out there for a couple of weeks, but they're closing Saturday. 3/26/16 - "Arrivederci to Pasta Mia, a D.C. fixture that dished out pasta, and love, from Nonna" by Lavanya Ramanathan on washingtonpost.com. I ate there once over 10 years ago and don't remember much. The article says they used boxed pasta (I don't know why I would have thought anything else), pre-bagged romaine, and jarred (Kirkland) pesto.

    Or pregnant. I went to minibar when I was pregnant. Although I was sad not to partake in the alcohol pairings I was very glad not to have to pay for them.

    My wine supply is running low and I'm thinking about making a pilgrimage to the DC Costco to stock up. (I live 2 miles from the Wheaton Costco, but, alas, it doesn't carry alcohol.) It probably goes without saying that I don't generally drink very high end wine. :-) I also don't know a whole lot about wine, but I know I generally prefer lighter reds and drier, crisper whites. Can anyone recommend wines in these categories that Costco generally carries? I'd be looking to spend about $10-15 a bottle. Thanks!!

    In all the years I lived in the neighborhood I never ate at Dupont Italian Kitchen. I'm guessing their patio helps them stay in business. I've never heard of the Dupont iteration of Boss Shepherd's or Sun Foods or Schwartz's Drugstore, so those must have all been before my time.

    I ate at Peppers a bunch mainly because I lived two doors down for 2 years. I don't remember Boss Shepherd's -- could that have been before Peppers (and before my time in the neighborhood)? The Peppers space was Le Pigalle briefly in addition to Jack's and now Agora.

    At the beginning of my time in the neighborhood in the late 90s I remember Sushi Taro as just a neighborhood sushi joint. I haven't eaten there in many years, but it seems to be a lot more upscale now from what I've heard. I'm pretty sure Komi was an outpost of Il Radicchio at some point as well as a coffee shop for awhile (Cyber Cafe?). I used to get my lattes there before I discovered stovetop espresso makers.
