  1. Well I am back from Oslo and wasn't impressed with the food options there. A lot of seafood, but nothing special that stands out from any other meal I had. Didn't get a chance to try Don's suggestion due to other commitments. The one thing I did enjoy was the Kebabs. They reminded me of a meat snow cone.
  2. Will be in Oslo for 2 weeks in May for work. Any places I shouldn't miss?
  3. You are right there Don. That hot sauce has some major kick. We were there Saturday for lunch/brunch. Had some nice tamales and pancakes.
  4. it's been a while since I've been there, but it was always one of my favorites when I lived in Arlington many years ago.
  5. Is there any place in or near Crystal City that has a private room that can accommodate about 30 people?
  6. The wife and I had a great meal at Marcel's on Friday. We did the 3 course Pre-Theater menu with wine pairings and were very happy with the food and the service and you get the added bonus of car service to and from the Kennedy Center. I started with the Diver Scallop, moved onto the Venison and finished up with the Butterscotch Creme Brulee (something I don't normal get, but this one was excellent). The wine parings were spot on as well.
  7. I had Ant Eggs in Mexico. They were very good. I had jelly fish in China. tasted good, but was like chewing rubber bands.
  8. Going to Beijing in April for a meeting. Might be able to sneak away from the group for a meal or two on my own. Any suggestions?
  9. The place I'll recommend in Marrakesh is in the back of the Jemma El Fna right before you enter the Souk. It's called Argana. It's nothng fancy, but cooks very good traditional Moroccan home cooking type food. The tagines there were the best we had in Morocco (other than my mother-in-laws of course). (My wife was born and raised in Morocco and said that this place was the real deal).
  10. Not for those cities, but I can give you recomendations for Agadir and Marrakesh if you need them.
  11. My Kitchen Aid is pushing 20 years and going strong. It's still one of my favorite things. well worth the money in my opinion.
  12. I have a reservation at Striped Bass for New Years Eve. I've read mostly good reviews, but a few off ones. Good Choice?
  13. Sorry it took so long to reply on this. Here's what they were pouring the day we were there. 2006 Le Belle Vie - 40% Pinot Grigio, 30% Viognier, 10% Chardonnay, 20% Marsanne Light, slightly sweet. 2006 Chardonnay This one was a gold medal winner for them, although it was my least favorite 2006 Viognier Reserve Another Gold Medal Winner. Much better then the Chard in my opinion 2006 Cabernet Franc - 81% Cab Franc, 19% Malbec Not usually a big Cab Franc fan, but this one was pretty good. Alot of fruit, was great with chocolate. 2006 Abbinato - 10% Sangviovese, 65% Refosco, 25% Nebbiolo Chianti style blend. Was my second least favorite. 2006 Heritage - 40% Merlot, 40% Cabernet, 20% Petit Verdot Silver Medal Winner. Good fruit and smooth finish. 2006 Norton Medium Body, lingering finish. Not bad at all. 2006 Rabelos Port - 75% Touriga National, 25% Tinta Cao Silver Medal Winner. Was probably the best thing I tasted that day.
  14. My wife and I went to the just opened Potomac Point Winery this weekend. I must say that I was pretty impressed. The wines were some of, if not the best I have had at a Virginia Winery. They had several very good wines including a really nice Port. The owner is the president of a home building company and spared no expense in building the winery. It is beautiful. It reminds me of some of the really nice places in Napa or Sonoma. It's done in the Meditaranian style. They have spaces for events, weddings, etc.... plus really nice places to hang out and enjoy some food and wine. Like I said it just opened like 2 or 3 weeks ago, and their Grand Opening is next month, but from what I've seen I'm very impressed and excited to have something so nice down in my neck of the woods. I'll give you a better breakdown on the wines we tasted in a later post, as I don't have my notes with me here at work.
  15. Here's an interesting article about the company and the troubles you can have when starting a business.
  16. I took a large business group (16) to Corduroy last night. Rissa, Chef Tom and the whole staff did a great job for us. My group raved about the food and the service. I also wanted to publicly thank Rissa for working with me to customize a great evening for my committee members. She made me look like a hero to my committee. THANKS!!! GREAT JOB!!!
  17. Found a good cuban place off of Congress Street called Habana (I think the spelling is correct). Good roast pork. mmmmm!
  18. I have to agree with Joe. We went last week and had a great meal. I had not been in several years and was quite impressd with it's new look and feel. The food is great and the wine list is impressive.
  19. Guajillo is one of the few bright spots within walking distance of Rosslyn for lunch. Have always had good food there no matter what I ordered.
  20. Hi all, Looking for suggestions for a place to take probably about 15 or so people for dinner after a day of meetings. Would preferably like private room. Looking for a place in DC, Arlington or Alexandria. I know Zola and Capital Grille do things like these, any other places? -Thanks.
  21. Where were you thinking in Manassas? I can definately say there is nothing "nice" in the Woodbridge area, but there are a couple places that have decent food.
  22. It didn't sound like MoCo was willing to consider changing it either, being that it brings them in about $22 mil a year.
  23. Dude. Do you not watch his shows or read his books. He has just as much praise for the old lady in a stall in an open air market that serves him a bowl of goat inards soup as he does for profesionally trained chefs. What he goes off on are soulless hacks like Rachel Ray and Sandra Lee.
