  1. My then girlfriend (now wife) used to go there frequently back in the early 80s. I enjoyed their Sunday brunch as well. It must be doing something right to still be there though what it is is not apparent from your report .
  2. The IRS pays particular attention to pay roll taxes payments as this is a common fundraiser for restaurant owners.
  3. I organized a couple of wino offlines there and LH was very accommodating with corkage and allowing us to be very noisy and just plain loud. I agree with Jake about the food-sometimes that's all one wants to accompany an older Bordeaux.
  4. I'll just add to the kudos here and say we had a delicious meal-lobster pasta app, tuna entree, and the lamb loin with lamb sausage accompanied by an excellent half bottle of Meursault and a yummy Girandin 2003 Santenay with the entrees. Dan, our server, was a total pro and made our evening even nicer. Thanks to Ferhat and everyone. BTW, there are some absolute steals on the winelist.
  5. We had a pleasant pre Who concert experience at Matchbox recently. They have happy hour specials until 7 and have upgraded their scotch selection-I had a nice pour of McCallan cask strength for $15 and the manager, seeing my order, came over for a chat and bought us a shot of Redbreast Irish. We hung out with a couple of fun schoolteachers attending their first Who show. Matchbox small pizzas are $2 off and are plenty for one hungry or two light eaters. Also draft beer specials.
  6. finally, A WP wine column worth reading
  7. I know and have experienced the garlic and clam pizza at Pepes (a food icon for me) but where else is there to dine in the city? we'll be there on the 25th for a night so any help is appreciated.
  8. Yes, TK's chat seems to have some technical difficulties but lately it has put TS to shame especially today. Good work and maybe the main reason I still subscribe to the mag!
  9. Yep, I broke my usual Italian pledge at Dino for this wine and worth it. First glass corked and Tina (our server as my wife reminded me) quickly brought another carafe/glass. Did I say how much I appreciated being asked if my wines were at the correct temperature???? They all were
  10. A great 3 hour meal. Food and drink excellent-wine service was slow. I told Dean he needs to rethink how the wine is delivered on a busy night especially given the care he takes in his list but this is a very minor quibble. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout the meal (no, I can't remember her name ) The pig was indeed beautiful as SVT notes. We all enjoyed our starters-the fried (but not greasy)seafood combo, 3 cheese polenta were great. A nice trio of gelato completed the meal with cheeses for my spouse. Dean is one of the good guys in this business and I will continue to recommend his establishment.
  11. What next-...party planning with MD2020 and Thunderbird?
  12. Its been a while but we're scheduled for an 815 booking tonight after attending the Pelecanos reading at Politics and Prose.
  13. There used to be a Greek restaurant that my wife and I enjoyed in this same location a few years ago. Or am I wrong?
  14. Ok, I see your point; however that Brancott special reoccurs every few weeks so that might be a type of deal that your readers could be alerted to. Of course, CW could be contacted to advertise since they're getting free publicity. I do think it's worth recommending to your readers that they sign up for store email blasts as many retailers actively promote their sales and deals this way. Pearsons is a good example. Good column on zins; I like the Sauret bottling as well.
  15. Weekly wine deals at local retailers ex. this week Calvert Woodley has Brancott SB for $6.88pb. Also could mention sales.
  16. Don't laugh, but I bought a precooked beef brisket from Saddlers In Henderson TX at Sams in Laurel and it ain't bad at all. I just wish it wasn't presliced as well but I'd buy it again.
  17. I believe it's a 2 bottle limit and either $20 or $25pb but, of course, call ahead. An aged CNDP would be my choice for the cuisine (not that you asked )
  18. Their email reply re delivery said anywhere inside the beltway so will give them a try in the near future.
  19. I had a Pilsner Urquell at the club level bar. Tasted full strength to me.
  20. mixed results-good meats (ribs, pulled pork and sausage) and key lime pie but we thought all the sauces were too sweet especially the Carolina which should be tangy as it's vinegar based. Corn bread was also sweet-a no no in my book; however we're glad it's close and my wife whipped up an excellent sauce in 5 minutes. Portions were good for the price so we'll be back. Sides (beans, greens and mac cheese also were only ok
  21. yet another pleasant meal last night on the terrace. Food and wine were good as always and Andy our server was a real star guiding us to new and old favorites on the menu. Resik (sp) at the bar was also great and we had a interesting conversation about Lebanese wine as I sipped a smooth Syrah from the Bakah (sp) valley. A nice Wednesday out.
  22. now can't make the dinner. I wasn't happy to find out that BF has eliminated corkage as I remember their list as over priced.
