  1. To me as a diner, if a restaurant's list is well chosen and fairly priced, offering corkage shouldn't be an issue. Example, Dino; the only occasions I bring wine in are wine dinners with a topic.
  2. Corkage is legal in MD but I don't think any parameters were set when the law was amended last year?
  3. I would not call the food at OE "generally terrible"; certainly not cutting edge but far from awful. I do stick to the tried and true, however and I'm mainly there for the raw bar. They were very accomdating with the wines I brought in last visit, even decanting the red per my request.
  4. Nice to see a female chef win. I agree format wasn't the best but the two finalists were worthy.
  5. I was away but I'm starting to look at the board more often. One reason for my absence was since we bought our second home in DE (RB) a few years ago, we tend to eat out more often there and cook at our home in this area; however now that our niece is attending GWU we are dining out more often. Recently, we took her to Central which we enjoyed. We also have some young friends that are into food and wine so we are meeting them fairly regularly as well. When people say they look at yelp for restaurant guidance, I always mention this site as the best website for dining advice.
  6. Rehoboth Salt Air is probably the best restaurant in Rehoboth these days. this is based on consistenly good meals over several visits. We spend quite a bit of time here so have made the rounds and Salt Air is #1 in our book. Google Rehoboth Foodie for a pretty good run down on dining in this area.
  7. rescheduled for tonight. What a nice meal we had at Cashions. Everything was excellent except the wait for our table (resevation made several days ago and reconfirmed). We enjoyed the grilled, heads on shrimp dusted with a salt?, a tagliatelli with fresh peas and house cured pancetta. Entrees were the bison cooked to order and the wreckfish on lemony lentils. Desserts were a chocolate ganache with expresso ice cream and a fruit crumble. No notes so hence the vague descriptions. Wine was a sublime 2008 Deponte Cellars "Dundee Hills" pinot which exemplified the greatness of this vintage in Oregon. It responded well to Justin's decanting. Morgan, formerly of Dino, took great care of us. We can't recall the last time everything was so right at a meal in the District. Well, maybe at Dino. We will return!
  8. You do have a point but I guess my name is less common (absolutely no offence intended) than yours. Don and I have pmed and I use my name on other boards (wine beserker). Certainly, Dean Gold knows my name is legit, right Dean? DR and I have pmed a few times though we have yet to meet even though we've been in the same venue on the same night a few times!
  9. agree with using real names. Comments tend to be more responsible when your name is on a post. I've been using my name in my signature for several years here with no issues.
  10. Regarding Armands and Ledo, I think there is a failure to distinguish between the original product and the multiple spinoffs. Both of these businessess did a lousy job with their franchise efforts in terms of quality, IMO. I like the pizza from the original Ledos (now in College Park), which I buy half cooked and finish on the silpat on high heat. An occasional visit to the Armands on Wisconsin Avenue (soon to close, btw) for the "classic" is generally satisfactory. I would never frequent any of their offspring.
  11. and the store itself gets fairly warm during the summertime. I would be wary of buying anything that' has been sitting on the shelves for a while. That said, his email sales can be excellent values at all levels.
  12. Starters-Escargot hushpuppies with dipping sauce-as others have mentioned, escargot flavor lost here but I liked the hint of Pernod, good sauce. Maple pork cracklin-we liked this as well and the sauce was also a good complement. Both of these were large enough that we skipped a starter and moved onto Tagliatelle bolognese (me)-well flavored but I could make this at home. Duck breast on a hash brown and sauerkraut base-we liked the the flavors of the breast but the base was kind of blah. I looked at my expanding waistline and ordered the trio of sorbet-3 scoops of sorbet plopped into a white bowl so no presentation at all. The blood orange was good, the granny smith and pineapple were just ok. Wines were interesting with steep markups so corkage a good option. For Don, I tried the Texier CDR which was disappointing-not much depth or length. Food portions are generous So, a nice meal with excellent service that didn't rush us but nothing really trancendant which I would expect with a 3 star rating from TS. Again, if I'm in the neighborhood I would probably pop in. Thanks Neil and Leo and all the other servers. We were glad to help support Food and Friends (where we volunteer) last night.
  13. Nice meal tonight-Leo and Neil et. al. were great-top notch service though my wife felt a bit neglected before I strolled in after remembering a friend could provide a parking spot. It's not a 3 star restaurant just a great neighborhood venue (as long as you don't have to park). I'll post more details later. Would I return? Yes
  14. thanks for this. The old link was always down. Not perfect but useful.
  15. Dean did a great job with our wine dinner last night. Food and service were all wonderful and everyone had a great time! Thanks again Dean and Dino.
