Wine Tasting Discussion. Who's In? What would you like to see?
mr food replied to lperry's topic in Beer, Wine, and Cocktails
Dave is right-back up the truck. Today, at least an hour in the decanter. I bought a case and then another one which I won't touch for a couple of years. Wines from this producer are generally excellent and very fairly priced. -
Have the rents gone down in CP? Given the demise of several venues, in many cases due to high rents, I wonder how the owners of Coppis think they will make a go of it?

I bought my Vinotemp from Costco as the price was good and you get Costco behind you if any issues. One very important thing is to let the unit stand upright for a couple of days before plugging it in. This allows the coolant to settle.

Dining in Ocean City
mr food replied to KeithA's topic in Baltimore and Annapolis Restaurants and Dining
Visiting OC yesterday reminded me why we love being in Rehoboth. I live in a city and don't want to escape to another one. Plus our dining choices are so much better. And the taxes..... -
Our dinner this past Tuesday showed a kitchen really hitting its stride. Our companions enjoyed the pseudo restaurant prix fix while I ducked out with the prosciutto and cannelloni-all good. The mozzarella and anchovy sandwiches were sin on a plate-rich and decadent. Hope took excellent care of us and Dean regaled our table with tales of truffles.

We enjoyed our meal last night though we thought some dishes were somewhat over salted-my skirt steak and M's duck.. I really like the new corkage policy $7.50pp and unlimited bottles!. Dino veteran Michael took good care of us and Dean and Kay were their usual charming hosts. Parking is real b**** but Dean told us relief is on the way. For now, take the metro or a cab. The upstairs room is quite LOUD when full but full is a good thing. Finally, we appreciated the "friends and family" discount and we will be Grotto dwellers!

They still have some of their own brand of 18 year old Highland scotch for $37. I tried it last night and it's absolutely worth getting. They wouldn't tell me who makes it but the last 18 year old they had was Macallan; however this is not the same scotch. The only Costco in the area that sells booze besides beer and wine.

Yes, it has been a while since we ate at Bombay but I remember the same oily consistency to some of their dishes. When you have Jewel of India and Tiffin nearby, why bother?

I drank Pappy when it was just another good bourbon and priced accordingly. I'm sure it is still a good bourbon, just the price point has changed and I no longer am interested in drinking it.

First visit last night. We opted for the bar as the guys wanted to watch the games. We went through a variety of plates. Highlights were the lamb, suckling pig (totally yummy and 2 plates ordered), greek fries.Taramasolata was also tasty but 3 not large portions of spreads for $22 was not worth it. The scallops and shrimp plates were just ok. Flatbread was good and warm. My wife had a Santorini white and I brought in a bottle of CNDP which was decanted at my request. Service was friendly, attentive and the food came out quickly as it wasn't that busy. The bill reflected the price paid when visiting a celebrity chef establishment. I can't say we will be in a hurry to return.

We tried the garlic and clam pizza from the Silver Spring location that was supposedly inspired by Frank Pepe in New Haven (which I have visited and eaten this pizza). It was terrible with a few not so fresh clams and a timid amount of garlic on a overly bready crust. F for fail. The Edge of the Woods pizza was good and I would probably get this again-nice use of eggplant.

I bought zins from Cabot (pinots last year which I enjoyed) and from Nola Palomar as it was an inexpensive way to try her wines from Spain. It's nice to be able to interact with so many winemakers. When I bought a sampler of Brian Loring's pinots recently , I was able to ask him directly about their drinking window.

yep, some deals on wines that you'll probably never see in the area.

We dined there recently and I basically agree with the TS review. Grilled oysters was our favorite dish. Service was excellent-friendly and informed with a team approach. More wine by the glass choices would be nice. No issues with my corkage bottle and the fee was waived. We will return.
