  1. Pritchards is one that has impressed me recently. Hard to find around here. I used to buy Pappy at MoCo but that's over. I took the opportunity to drink a copious amount of the 20 year Pappy last time I was in NYC visiting the Jazz Standard. In fact, at the end of the night, there was none left. Big band and bourbon-a wonderful pairing.
  2. We did make it after all. Enjoyable meal-excellent service by Erika (sp). I brought a 2002 Philipponnat BDB champagne ($25 corkage) which the ladies enjoyed while I sampled a few of the reds. Food was quite good, not top tier but we would return. Chicken liver mousse, onion strings, radishes, fried chicken thigh-biscuit a little soggy-, veggie pizza-good flavor but crust was undercooked, Seven hour braised pig leg was a full plate but underseasoned to my taste;howeverpork was tender. Brioche bread pudding with chocolate ganache, caramel ice cream was a pleasant ending. I didn't really need a glass of Calvados but I wasn't driving. Whomever was at the fryer knows his/her stuff says a southerner. Very lively scene-it's a popular destination.
  3. This generally represents our feelings from a recent visit. Wine prices are also higher and the choices not quite as interesting. Still a fun place to dine-we always sit at the bar.
  4. posted this on Tom's chat this morning we went to a performance there last week-beautiful space, btw. They offered a limited menu-we sampled the thin crust pizza and sushi which we liked. Nothing you haven't tasted before but well prepared. Good beer wine and wine list with lots of servers. They plan to be open 24/7-not sure how that will work. The pizza was a spicy pepperoni and it was spicy. I didn't taste the sushi but my spouse liked it.
  5. Thanks Mark for your reply. I see your point but Don's is also valid-I WAS doing a quick review and least expensive to most is easier to digest ro these tired eyes. I suggest you group them by region AND price-lowest to highest. It's probably the best Spanish list I've seen in a while and the service we received will bring us back!
  6. nice meal at the bar last night with Alex and Jen (?)taking great care of us. We thought the food overall very good but not top tier. Deviled egg was a tasty 2 bites and the cheeses were excellent likewise the smoked almonds. The 2 duck tapas we tried were ok with not quite the flavor spectrum I was anticipating. Manchengo cheesecake a nice way to end the meal. We stuck with the wines by the glass as the list, while varied, was priced for an expense account-they need to have more 2 digit choices. A pleasant kickoff to the holiday weekend.
  7. Tell me it isn't true...Mondavi Woodbridge as the wine choice at the steak and cheese place. That has to be a misprint:; Mark Slater, tell me it isn't true.
  8. not sure where my post went, but anyway we were there last night. We, indeed, had good conversation with Ted and Vanessa provided excellent service. I really enjoyed the Minervois red and my spouse, the Alsatian pinot blanc. Food was good-escargot and cassoulet- and less so,scallops and onion tart.. Nice atmosphere. Would probably return if in the neighborhood.
  9. I've been generally pleased with the wines I've bought from Garagiste and the provenance is always impeccable. They will ship on demand but I'm selective on my purchases as the shipping from Seattle to DC is close to $50 per case. After a while, you learn the language of Rimmerman and can tell when an unknown wine is worth a shot. Their Chablis deals are usually excellent. However, this is a great area for wine purchasing so mail order is a nice option to have but not a requirement for sourcing good juice.
  10. and Dino is one of a very few restaurants where I can, if I'm so inclined, simply state my price point and know a good bottle will come my way
