The wine list sucks. The food is average (olives/pickled vegetables are boring, ceviche is good although listed as seafood it was all shrimp, the filling of the veggie empanadas was bad and the scallops were decent). Service was a joke, when I asked what gins were available at the bar, the server said 'we have every gin". I was tempted to order a Plymouth Navy Strength Martini, but I restrained myself.

Just got a couple of bottles of Zind Humbrecht Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal 2003.

Ah yes, from Clos du Tue-Boeuf (Dressner Selection), had it last week and it was quite tasty

Are you serious about the feathers? That has to be the most disgusting thing I ever heard of regarding food presentation.

I believe that Bassin's has the 95 Chateau Pontet Canet for around $60.00 IIRC.

That scrawny little manager there always gave me the creeps. I am sorry, but those had to be the stupidest people in DC behind the counter there. Maybe the idiot police shut them down.

1986 Benedict Loosen-Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese. Initial smack of petrol that is common amongst aged Rieslings. As the bottle opened honey and apples were both prevelent on the nose and the palate. Still possesses plenty of acidity and body making it a very nice aged Auslese.

Did you happen to sample the Ramey Chard (Hyde?) that was offered to two naive young ladies next to me for $30 (they were told that it should have been $40) a glass?

Just curious...Are you in the wine biz by chance?

Man, they made Kathy out to be a curmudgeon. All I can say was that she was very helpful to me when picking the wines to be served at my wedding.

Unfortunately, mostly all of them pretty bad. I would love to find decent delivery in Bethesda/Rockville area.

I just called the distributor-- Rick's in Alexandria and Whole Foods in Fairfax. Chevy Chase might have some in stock, but they haven't placed an order since early May.

Does anybody know any retail stores that carry Russian River Brewing Company's (i.e. Pliny the Elder & Younger) beers? Other than Cali, I believe that DC and PA are the only two areas that distrubute it.

I thought so, as I don't know him well enough to trust his recs. However, Tim Carman seems to think that their brisket is somewhat the real deal. www.washingtoncitypaper.com/special/food2006/display.php?id=194 -
I was there the first night Comet opened to the public and TS was at eating at the booth next to me. Can't say that he didn't get there early on after they opened.

I know ACE Beverage had a Mexican Barbera (I think) that used to be poured by the glass at Andale. I was actually pretty tasty and under $10 if I remember correctly. Joe or Chris might want to chime in on exactly what it was.

Gaffel does the trick for me.

There is a bar area on the first floor and you can have dinner there as we did tonight. Lamb Carpaccio and softshells were fantastic. Don't miss out on the peach cobbler that Wabeck recommended.

I went to BB for the first time Wednesday night and saw David Ashwell on my way to the bathroom. He made a point to tell me how great the wallpaper was.
