  1. Very much agreed. I used to love their pizza truck, and really enjoy the pizza at the downtown shop. Also, the beer list is really good.
  2. That may be team- dependent. When the Nats were there, it was allowed.
  3. But you don't have to smuggle. They let you bring in food. We do it all the time.
  4. Agreed. It used to be SOOOOO good, but the last few times we went, too salty every time. We finally gave up, and were sorry that it had fallen so far. I hope that there will be some not-seafood options for us non seafood folks who want to eat Ann Cashion's food again.
  5. Once upon a time.... I waited tables at a place called Hazel's, on Columbia Road. (Now Habana Village.) Jazz, southern food, really really really good fried chicken. Especially on Sundays, when the special was honey fried chicken. (The regular fried chicken dipped into boiling honey. Very tasty indeed.) Although, as horrid as I found the service there, Colorado Kitchen also had some amazing fried chicken. Those were THE best fried chicken I have ever had.
  6. You know Don, you need a membership at AFI. Seeing these things on the big screen is a blast. Actually, most movie lovers need a membership there. Why yes, I spend too much time there. (And then I walk across the street and eat steak at the bar at the Classics. Hm. That would make a good food/movie combination event...)
  7. The regular menu at El Chucho has huitlacoche taquitos.
  8. Sounds cool - but I have to ask, do they show Nats games? See, that's the only reason we ever go to sports bars, and I find it frustrating to go in for a Nats game and be stuck with some out of town team because we didn't know that was the place's thing.

    Sassafras

Since they propagate with runners, we always walked out from the big tree, found a little one, pulled it up, thus pulling the root up, and worked our way back toward the big tree, eventually clipping it. That was the easiest way. I live in Petworth - I don't really know where to find woods that aren't a national park. I'm not so good at that nature thing.
  10. Sassafras? I love sassafras. I used to dig up the roots down by the railroad track and make delicious tea out of them (really). Sadly, I cannot find a good source of sassafras roots here. But I hate banana.
  11. He wrote a good bit of autobiography. Some fictionalized, such as Slaughterhouse Five and Player Piano. Some not, as many of his essays. His son's books are odd, but interesting.
  12. Just home from Upshur Street. Domku, Twisted Horn, and Petworth Citizen all open. Sorry, didn't look across the street to see if Crane and Turtle is open.
  13. It wasn't that sweet. I made it as written, and everyone liked it that way. I suppose you could cut the sugar - but it's 2 teaspoons in 2 pounds of carrots, with advice to cut it if your carrots are very sweet. I think the sugar helped make the sauce/glaze the right texture. Maybe you want something more like a Moroccan carrot salad? Those don't tend to be too sweet. More spicy, a bit anyhow.
  14. Based on this recommendation, I made this for a dinner party this weekend. I have been informed that it needs to go into the regular rotation by everyone who was present. Thank you for the suggestion! (We got that book for Christmas. Very timely.)
