  1. Maybe you guys can help me. My parents are going to be staying at the Embassy Suites in Tyson's and I'm trying to find a place that's going to do a nice Thanksgiving buffet with a mostly traditional spread: turkey, dressing, blah blah but done real well. I'd prefer to stay in the Tyson's area because it's just easier on everyone but if I can't, I can't. Please flood me with PMs of where to go. Much thanks in advance
  2. my cooks and i usually get takeout once a month from here. it's good, reliable and cheap. My Salvadorean guys swear by the papusas, say they are very good. personally i like the goat the most but it can be very dry sometimes, i usually just ask the nice guy at the counter what meat is best and order that.
  3. I've eaten at Bambu three times in the last two months. It isn't bad, it isn't extraordinary but it is better than yick (at least lately ). To be fair, all I've ever eaten is a good miso soup, sushi and a great seafood salad. The seafood salad stands out for several reasons. The first time I ordered it it was because they no longer make the Squid salad I wanted, which was basically the same salad I wound up with minus the shrimp and scallops (and 3-4 dollar upcharge). But I ate it and am glad I did. Big Shrimp, Scallops and Squid in a fresh lime juice dressing laced with sweet chili sauce and lots of fresh veggies, it was really good. I haven't eaten anything else there so I can't comment on the rest of the menu but it fills my craving on the days I don't wanna bother with the crowds at Kotobuki and sides, it's literally four doors down and sometimes that's good enough
  4. Due to a vast amount of vacation requests and other assorted reasons, I shall be manning the bar this Monday evening. Come by, say hi and see if I can pour a proper drink also.....new menu revisions rolling out on Wendsday.....yeah!!!
  5. goin for lunch today at 12 pm if anyone wants to join me, weather permitting, i'll be on the patio
  6. I stopped by today for some take out. I've driven by here countless times and always said, "hey I should check that place out, esp since all my cooks seem to love it.." So, today I did. All I can say is that I like it, I like it alot. Had the tripe and costillos as tostadas and chorizo, lengua and barbacoa de chivito as tacos. I ate the tostadas in the car couldn't help it, besides, if I waited to get home they would have been soggy right? right? Anyway, the costillos were awesome as was the tripe, I really like the richness of the beans and the crema, simple wonderful. I am always a fan of roasted pork so this was an easy sell. The chorizo and chavito were the best of the tacos, I didn't really like the tounge as it was a bit tough, but I'll get it next time to see if it's more tender. The lady wasn't busy so we chatted a bit in spanish which always suprises everyone that I hablo espanol lol. anywho, all the meats seemed fresh and moist with the exception of the lengua......total....$12.00 including $2 tip cause she was just so nice
  7. Not last night, it was 38.95 for the buffet at GF. Total damage for two was 97.00 for one beer, one bacardi and buffet. I went expecting the well seasoned meat that is the hallmark of the Churracaria but was dissapointed. Most of the meats were hardly seasoned with the exception of the beef rib. This cut was from the part of the rib roast minus the roast. A large laryer of beautifully marbled and seasoned meat, everything else was very average. What I really liked about GF was the variety. Much better for "other foods" than FDC. I was also struck by the fact that everyone who workes there worked really hard all night long, and seemed to enjoy it. I mean, for having been packed from 11am till 9:30pm when we left they all had a smile on their faces and were keeping the food hot and filled. I know that this will probably get moved and that's cool.....just my two cents....it did however satisfy my craving for meat...go ahead make jokes.....
  8. I hope everyone enjoys their Fathers Day, whether it be a nice brunch, day of golf, or just some quality time.
  9. I live right up the street and take the boys there when they just have to have 'regular' pizza. If I use Comet as a reference for New Haven style, then no, this place is nothing like that. IMHO, the crust taste like cardboard, is thicker than I like. Overall, I'd eat it if I was jonesing for a slice, didn't want to drive and had the kids. One bonus is that if you have the kids they at least serve ice cream and if you don't wind up liking the pizza, BlackSalt and Marvelous Market are both next door and Kotabuki is across the street.
  10. you could also call bebo in crystal city and order the pork shoulder panini or meatball panini. they deliver to the city with a 50 dollar minimum but the sandies are worth it
  11. things we've eaten lately and loved...tibetian lamb with cumin, fried spicy tofu with pork, garlic chives with pork, schezuan green beans with black bean pork sauce, crispy salty squid, spicy and tasty chicken ans smoked duck. all have been superb, i am covinced that this is the perfect place to eat on sunday. we always order way to much food so we have leftovers for at least two days. i always get the schezuan crispy dry beef, that makes my day.....

  13. when i lived in minnesota, my ex and i would goto the 4h fair every year to cheer on her little sisters cow or pig or chicken or whatever she had raised that year....the real reason we went though was because mn state fairs, county fairs and 4h fairs are really about food. badbadbadbad food. pork chops on a stick, corn on the cob on a stick and yes, cheese curds, fried or not. melanie insisted on eating curds on every trip so i can attest to the fact that yes, they squeak, but only when very fresh and they are the best fried cheese product imho. it's no wonder i gained almost 30 lbs during those years (maybe the beer helped too)....but more on topic, i have tried poutine and whats not to like? fried potatoes, good. cheese, good. gravy, goooooooood......
  14. i had forgotten about full key given my curent obsession with jnh. it my be time to return for an order of causway bay clams, chive flowers and shanghai shrimp dumpling soup. :-D
  15. in an effort to eat something different and get off this taco, spicy chinese kick i've been on i went to Dehli club today for some take out. in abit of irony, dehli club was the previous inhabitant of the space that is currently eleventh. i got butter chicken, lamb naan, paneer naan, prikoras and tandorri wings. i loved everything.the breads were light and fluffy, the wings had a little char, which i like; i had never had butter chicken before, and am usually loathe to anything resembling prego and cream but, it was delicious.i founf the samosas bland, i would have liked some chutney as opposed to the dipping sauces i got, but i forgot to ask so it's my fault. great place...:-)
  16. Returned to 2Amys tonight for a nice bite to eat out on the patio. Dreamt of crispy pizza, cold hefenvwesien sp? and creamy sorbet to finish. Started out with the goat cheese and asparagus crostini, so good I ordered another. Then I was ready for my cold, perfect warm weather beer....but they were out of hef and I opted for hop pocket. Good, but not in the way that I had been craving, oh well. After that I had a clam pizza with ramps and the wife had the calabrezze, her default. Everything about the pizza was fine but I am curious to find out from others what the response to the new dough has been. Personally, I didn't like it. It was tasty enough but I've come to expect crisp, char, flavor from the pizza at 2 amys and instead got one that was doughy, floppy but reasonalby tasty, in fact my wife prefers the new crust.... So what do you guys think, is it a good change or is it a change at all? I've read other post about floppy, doughy crust and it does seem to be an anomoly, yet all the pizzas I saw tonight looked more like this than in the past. I have to say, this is the first time that I have had a pizza here that wasn't exactly the same as the one I had before it. This was almost the anti 2amy's.
  17. We went up to Joe's tonight for dinner and boy oh boy am I glad we did. I can honestly say that on my last trip I definately ordered wrong. Tonight we had: a27: Salty and Crispy Chicken: exactly what I wanted salty fried chicken with hunks of garlic, chilies and basil, ummmm w05: Dumplings with red hot sauce: okay, tender dumplings with a basic filling, just fine... n16: Beef Noodle Soup, Szechuan Style: awesome, chewy noodles with tender, slightly fatty beef in a spicy rich broth with some greens and fragrant with cilantro. Just perfect for a cold, blustery day. after about reading Dean's love of the tofu here we got a37: Soft Bean Curd with Tasty spicy sauce: I really liked the tofu in the h20 last time and wanted something similar. So we gave it a go, it was wonderful, spicy, creamy, salty and a bit of onion on top. Very soothing to me. h08: Szechuan Spicy and Dry Beef Sautee: absolutely wonderful. Nice numbing (it actually suprised me when I noticed it, lol) soooooooooooo f'en good and spicy. I absolutely LOVE this. Nida wanted some shrimp so she ordered the cashew, celery and shrimp dinner, extra spicy. She loved it. The shrimp were tender and fresh tasting. Even thought the nice lady, Audrey?, at the register tried to warm me about the spice she seemed happy when I assured her that we had come for the spiciness. After the last time we were here, I was sure I had misordered and I'm happy I returned. I haven't had much authentic chinese food but I absolutely move this place to the top of my admitedly small list.

  19. Lapin ala moutarde is a standard bistro staple usually using pommery mustard but sometimes using Dijon
  20. Eleoquent and insightful. As a parent who loves to eat out with my children I applaude you. And both the boys love your shrimp and grits and catfish Gillian
