  1. Texture is an extremely good point as a quality that is easily overlooked in these conversations about taste. It is overall very representative of the quality of meats and something that is still evident after a meat has been cooked.
  2. Has anyone gone already? Looking for clarification on the "for the table" of the menu. Are those prices for each person at the table or a single price regardless of number of guests?
  3. As always Don, thanks for creating the space for a great culinary community! Happy Holidays!
  4. I couldn't convince my wife to go as the concept wasn't one she felt interested in experiencing. Regardless, $300K in the scheme of restaurant business, doesn't seem like something that couldn't have been resolved if both parties had been so inclined.
  5. Also funny. We were at Babies R' Us next door and I picked up the take out menu the Sunday before last. It was just two sheets of paper stapled together! Since we were in a hurry didn't get anything but glad to hear the positive experiences. Will give it a try in the future.
  6. We're actually in the beginning stages of planning a 2 week trip to Japan for next spring. Since my wife has never visited before will try to have a nice blend of the important sites to see with some more smaller uniquely Japanese experiences. How long will your trip be? I think its much easier to plan once you know if you are going for example either 7 or 14 days. It is very easy to spend an entire week in Tokyo and the associated day trips. If you're looking for a more traditional experience of Japan definitely would recommend going to Kyoto. For a week, 4 days in Tokyo (1 day in Kamakura) and 3 days in Kyoto (1 days in Nara) is a pretty good plan. Keep in mind if you're not use to traveling by subway and rail systems that a lot of time will get taken up in traveling. Kamakura from Tokyo Nara from Kyoto Getting a JR rail pass works well if you plan to visit many cities in different prefectures. If you are planning on just staying in one or two cities it may not make financial sense. Like I posted previously in this thread, Paul's Tokyo 7 day trip or his 15 Slow West-Central Trip are great references for culinary experiences in Japan. Learning some basic Japanese would be good: Human Japanese is a great app and NHK has a good website. NHK also has good travel shows which would help with planning a trip.
  7. Stopped by and picked up the chicken salad sliders and pork belly sandwiches. They were very good and throughly enjoyed. Prices were reasonable at $8-9 each. More interesting was the design of the sandwich space. Actually it seems like a high end test kitchen whose usage could be towards creating a new chefs, new foods or special dinners. It looks very versatile for a wide range of possibilities.
  8. 100 Bowls of Soup also has very little salt in their products. We usually add a few things to spice it up. I guess these high end soup places are starting to 'ship' their soups that way.
  9. Nice that they are going to source some meats from Polyface farms. No words on prices but can see this being popular if it is kid friendly.
  10. Interesting the view is not in a high resolution. Are you sure it's not a photograph instead of a street view?
  11. RTC was packed all afternoon from the trick or treat going on with all the children. Plenty of stores ran out of candy they were passing out and posted notes on the windows. Most people were probably pretty tired from the all day Halloween events since this year it fell on the weekend. The singles and couples without children may have gone to DC for a more festive adult environment.
  12. Curious why do you find her talking with the press after 30 years very repellent? I find the interesting point that in a majority of cases after grandchildren are born usually the grandparents come around. While this situation could be racism, somehow I get the sense money is also involved because of the family business.
  13. Read the SF Chronicle article and and the SFist update. Ahhhh, the Washington Business Journal explains their reasons for not going to Seattle or Beverly Hills. Still something just doesn't add up for me with these facts; a silent family matter for over 30 years, then the brother decides to open a second location in the city where is his estranged sister lives and the uncle says there is a glimmer of hope for reconciliation now that the story is in print [sfist].
  14. Not really a sit down dinner place but a really good place for a sandwich, South Market Sandwich.
  15. I think that's not an issue indicative of the Mosaic model but rather a factor of living in any suburb near a major metropolitan city in the US. The Mosaic model is the culmination of decades of retail and housing developers work to create a 'city block' out of nothing.
  16. Property values seem to have retained their values for condo owners so far. Just a case of what will happen in ten years when automation takes over white collar jobs.
