  1. We live an equal distance from all 3. I prefer DCA for ease of parking and general convenience. But parking is more expensive and I'm not usually trying to get in and out at the height of rush hour. Next is BWI. Generally cheap to fly in and out of. The parking shuttles are on the sparse aside and don't run often enough. I don't like Dulles. I just don't. I don't like the parking. I don't like the food.I just don't like it. But if I can get a direct flight for significantly less money then I use it.
  2. Since we can't go for Thanksgiving I suggested we go for Mr. BLB's birthday dinner. He said no--it looked too nice for our six year old. Our six year old who went to RTC at 2 weeks and was a regular at Dino and Palena at age 2. Who picks the Mussel Bar for his own birthday every year and rocked out Central just this past summer. I suspect he means that it is too quiet and sedate . So--how elementary school age kid friendly is it? If we ditch the kid at school and try for lunch are we going to get the full experience?
  3. I would love to go to Comus Inn. I may drag Mr. BLB there one weekend so he can get a sense of it. Boonsboro is definitely too far. The whole thing is an exercise in making me as crazy and unhappy as possible... Edited to add: The other problem with Comus is that they only serve until 5 pm. In-laws plane doesn't get in until 1 pm and they will want to rest for a few hours before we go...
  4. I usually need one or two people to root for early on to engage me. Or at least someone from DC to root for. (Goodness knows they are never going to get a Chef from St. Louis on there...) I just don't feel like there is a narrative arc or quiet moments to get to know people beyond "loud" or "mean" or "kooky" right now. So this is something I watch alone because it isn't engaging enough for Mr. BLB to watch with me. Sigh..
  5. Cooking failure--liverwurst. My food processor is to small and I didn't pulse it long enough to get it really smooth. And it cooked in a water bath rather than a more traditional poaching. The flavor is good but the texture is a train wreck. I also did a bison roast in the crockpo that should reheat nicely for dinner tonight.
  6. I wouldn't make a scene but it would go in the trash as soon as we got home. I'm super picky about what apples we eat at home and from what growers and how they spray their trees. And there simply wouldn't be time to discover if the person handing them out knew any of those answers. (I should also note that due to food allergies, we only keep one or two treats and then "trade" in the rest for cash or toys. And we usually hand out pretzels and playdough.)
  7. So far the answer is reservations at Chef Geoff's in Rockville and Tower Oaks Lodge. My six year old is sad that we aren't cooking because he loves the idea of Thanksgivinakkah but there is no support to get ready in time. If anyone is doing a combined menu, please, please, please post!
  8. Watching but not enjoying. I don't think I've liked a season since All-stars.
  9. Dean, there is a rumor on DC Urban Moms that you are open this year for Thanksgiving. True? I don't think I can get the family to go that far but at least I can use it as ammo for an outing later once the in-laws leave.
  10. To people going back to work and my husband, who is getting out of my house. (I work from home-- I consider it mine from 8 am to 5 pm...)
  11. In-laws are visiting. Lunch at Uncle Julio's at the Rio Center was busy. Dinner at Bonefish Grill was over the top crowded with people spilling out the doors waiting. I was just glad to eat something other than my own cooking.
  12. Hey, just wanted to mention the thread title should probably be changed to indicate that we had to postpone/cancel whatever we are calling it.
  13. Don, I loved, loved, the Super Spinach at the Capitol Hill Burrito Brothers, although I preferred Provolone on mine. I haven't been in forever-- other than the name and location it seems to be an entirely different beast than it was back in the 90s. My standard Chipotle order is salad greens (no dressing), carnitas, pico, a touch of sour cream and guacamole. I had lemon from the wedges at the drink machine too. $9 and plenty filling.
  14. I've been nursing a cold and defrosted some chicken broth a few days ago. Tonight I heated up the remainder, added chopped up roasted chicken, stirred in two eggs, added some tamari and lemon juice. Nothing fancy but it hit the spot.
  15. But why not open for lunch? Please? Especially since I think Sonoma is now off my list of nice lunch places. Sigh...
  16. I have told my boss we need to do an event in Cleveland because the Cleveland Ritz Carlton has an amazing government rate. I did get to stay at the Four Seasons in St. Louis last year for a conference. It was lovely, amazing and not at all expensive. Mostly because the casino next door seems to be under-writing it. I'd go back in an instant. (Note that the dining was pretty lousy though...)
  17. The guys had Cincinnati-style chili, which used up the last of the tomato products in the house. I have a cold so I heated up some chicken broth, stirred in two eggs, added some salt and lime juice and pretended it was egg drop soup.
  18. The prices at the Bethesda market are usually the same or better than I can do at a store, at least for meat I'm willing to eat. And when the freezer and cupboard are empty we will go back. We may be a little tired of roasted chicken, ground beef and eggs soon though!
  19. We didn't go to any markets this weekend. We restocked minimally at Wegman's (bread, bananas, and cauliflower) and we need yogurt from TJs. Everything else will be out of the pantry for a while. (Let's just say we aren't confident that the back pay will come through or when...)
  20. Does anyone know if it is closed? There seemed to be construction going on for a while but that doesn't seem to be ongoing. It was dark last night. and I couldn't get the website to load...
  21. I'm the non-furloughed spouse and I spent 20 minutes online trying to find the lowest price on deodarant. We're eating beef heart stew for dinner this week. Next up is chicken livers, which was $1.75 at the bethesda market on Sunday. We definitely aren't spending any money we don't need to. I skipped the Penn Quarter Farmers Market last week and that is probably my favorite market. I'm sure we aren't the only ones who are being super conservative. I think they are all idiots...Sigh.
