I rather like their breakfasts--the All american scrambler with a side of avocado is quite lovely. The tyson's galleria location offers very generous portions.

And we stopped going to the Cabin John location because the burgers were consistently hockey pucks no matter how much I begged for them to be medium rare. Even having the cute kid look sadly at the manager and asking that his dinner not be suitable for the Capitols game didn't work...

Their website is completely wrong about where it still has locations--the Montgomery Mall location disappeared a while ago, and the purported on in Tysons/Vienna was not there.

Jackson had five seasons starring on Fringe and he's gotten good notices in The Affair. Van Der Beek is appearing a show that premieres this spring and was so unforgettable that it has already escaped my brain...- 14 replies

To Whom Are You Drinking Right Now?

Good news (for those of us who liked it): City Lights of Bethesda relocated a while back farther down Bethesda Avenue, near that fancy new french bakery. We've gone several times and it has always been empty but with a steady carry out/delivery business and the food was just as I remembered it after one misstep with a wrong sauce on the tinkling bells pork. And now the bad news: A kitchen fire has shut them down again. "Bethesda Restaurant Closed Indefinitely After Late-Night Kitchen Fire" by Aaron Kraut on wtop.com We eaten dinner in Bethesda between activities once a week during the school year and this is a blow. Sigh...

Dining on Thanksgiving
bookluvingbabe replied to Jonu's topic in Washington DC Restaurants and Dining
It is that time of year again, when I look longingly at menus in the city and then settle for someplace in MoCo. The criteria is--not too loud, not too crowded, not too far from the Rio Center, ability to order more than just turkey and the service needs to be excellent. Over the years we have tried: Normandie Farm--my fave but too far of a drive on a curvy road with family that gets car sick. Founding Farmers--perfect the first year they were open and then a disaster the next year. Tower Oaks Lodge--or as my MIL calls it, that place with the animal heads. Serviceable and too loud. And yet they asked to go back last year. This year's contenders: Comus Inn--my first choice but too far and it's a buffet. I don't see that going over well. Brasserie Beck in the Kentlands--was surprisingly loud last time we went. Ruth Chris's Steakhouse in Downtown Crown Chef Geoff's--too far probably but likely to have consistent food. Can anyone make a good place for somewhere else? Thanks! -
We get those at work--I've always assumed it was a scam and hung up on them.

Damn. I was just driving in the area on Monday and couldn't remember if it was open or closed on Monday so I didn't stop in. Which I couldn't have because it is closed.

We are going to Disney World for part of winter break. You have to give a credit card for every dining reservation (and pre-pay for some, like Cinderella's Royal Table) and there is a $10 per person penalty for no-showing. And their software makes sure the credit card is valid. Unlike Marriott's which is still using a Discover card I reported lost 2 years ago but I can't figure out how to change it... And they still get a ton of no-shows. But at least if you go online at 11 pm (the deadline for canceling without penalty) you are likely to find that elusive, hard to find, reservation that you have been struggling to find for the last six months. I no-showed once--at Signatures, ages ago--because I screwed up Open Table and reserved for October 11th instead of November 11th. I was SO ashamed.

I tried it a few weeks back on my way to work. Loved the bagels and the lox spread. I didn't like the whitefish salad at all. But given that we are paleo 90 percent of the time, I don't see this being a regular in my rotation.

All I can say is that season 1 is super clunky and it improved in season 2. And then became pretty unwatchable during the college years. #TeamPacey- 14 replies

To Whom Are You Drinking Right Now?

Oscar Taveras. It is a sad day for his family and for the Cardinal Nation. -
I was said to see Joy go so soon. I'm reserving judgement on the rest but some of them need to get off my tv sooner rather than later.

I know the hate there is for Open Table but I love it. I love the app on my blackberry (how old school is that?) that will tell which 20 restaurants near me has immediate availability. I love that on the website I can enter the address of a hotel for my upcoming business trip and find out what is within 1/4 mile of the hotel. I love not having to make phone calls. The number of not-Open Table places I eat at is minimal because of that.

For the record I've tried Clydes and Tower Oaks Lodge more times than I can count and been disappointed routinely. Loud with unresponsive staff and don't get me started on the inane Thanksgiving reservation policy TOL has. Getting anything new, not loud, with well-trained staff and more than edible food that we can take the in-laws to in the greater Gaithersburg area is a big deal. It is a really big deal for my household. I don't really care who owns the place or who doesn't. (Of course in the realm of true confessions, I thwacked my Mr. BLB last night and said Beck. We should have tried Beck. Next trip.)

Downtown Crown location in Gaithersburg opened last month and we had dinner there this week with the in-laws. It was definitely the best meal we've had in Gaithersburg in ages, and quite possibly in all of MoCo. BL-2nd grader had the calamari to start and ate 95 percent of the app portion. He then had the salmon, which disappeared in 4 bites. (I swear, we feed him at home...) In laws had the trout, with the pecan coating on the side and really liked it. Mr. BLB and I both had the hanger steak with mushrooms and spinach. We also had the field green salad. The salad was perfectly dressed, the steak was flavorful and tender. Service was friendly without being over the top. It wasn't noisy like Bonefish Grill and the food was1000 times better. It was a definite winner all around.

Apparently there is a reason we are still married after 10 years. Mr. BLB had the same idea to get Ann to do a cake for our anniversary. I'll post a picture next month. (And at least we mentioned it to each other so we didn't end up with 2 cakes...)

Fuck. I was at the coffee shop today--first time actually there though I had peeked in previously. To say the mood of the staff was somber would be an understatement.
