  1. Washingtonian posted a menu a while back. Its outdated, but I think mostly just in that the prices have gone up a few bucks leaving most entrees between $20-32.
  2. Has anyone been to Willi's Seafood & Raw Bar? Tom had it in his recent Sonoma Postcard. (doesn't seem to be a Sonoma thread as yet... not sure if these should be or if Napa is happy to share, or rather this should go with SF, which is where most Sonoma posts seem to be thus far...)
  3. Anyone been to Hog Island Oysters? Tom's postcard from SF touted it, but its gone unmentioned here. I'm making my maiden voyage to N.Cali at the end of May and welcome any tips. FL is already booked (and price prohibitive even for the occassion this will be), so I think Cyrus will be the big splurge meal (also hitting Sonoma). Also if anyone has tips on decent cheap spots to stay in SF, Sonoma or in between, please PM. Thanks!
  4. The bar is alive and well and they do happy hour right here. The veal cheek chips is off the HH menu, but mini-hot dogs & half-smokes is on. Its worth a try - super concentrated, smoky half-smokes in a mini-hot dog bun equivalent to the parker house rolls that accompany the tuna sliders, which remain a star. The beer list still looked pretty solid to me - yes they know serve Amstel, Heineken, and Tecate, but all other options were a step above. Maybe not a show stopping list as it once was, but hardly somewhere you can't enjoy a good beer either.
  5. Some very cool news from Dino about Wednesday nights to come. I'll be there 5/2 and probably before then as well. Bravo Dean - most places should follow your lead - all three of these promotions are fantastic by me!
  6. I think Michael also said he didn't want to be solicited at all.
  7. I've always had good luck with Stephanie as well. She's very friendly and has done well by us.
  8. The food is expensive for what it is and I don't think it much good, but you can have a table there with a couple drinks and eat elsewhere beforehand. Not sure if that suits your needs, but BA is otherwise a great venue and brings in some very good shows.
  9. I didn't take that to be the argument, rather that in this instance the server neglected to ask how the diner wanted the burger done and that while that was a mistake it was one that the diner might have corrected themselves by requesting it be done a certain way. I don't always speak up when things don't go the way I would wish at restaurants, but like sending a burger back if it doesn't come as you like (or just accepting it for what it is when you don't care or expect better) this seems like a reasonable response to me. That being said, of course, Central should strive to ask how a diner likes his or her buger cooked and to provide the burger so cooked. I don't doubt for a second that it does.
  10. It doesn't look like they've posted it online as yet. They tend to wait a month to a month and a half before making their print content available online. If I remember it correctly, the Reliable Source piece excerpted the relevant criticisms in large part. The inclusion of bankruptcy bit struck me as a little odd at the time, but the service criticisms seemed pretty consistent with what many folks have been saying here and elsewhere all along.
  11. I've been enjoying Thorn Clark's Shotfire Ridge at $15 a pop. I think CW & WFs (P St) both carry it.
  12. Mmmm - love fish tacos! Have never had them here, but have been looking (unsuccessfully) for somewhere around DC to get some good ones. What are Guajillo's like?
  13. The serving sizes here are not small. I can't remember the last place I went where the food was good and the servings were so big actually.... The Short Ribs deserve the hype. They are deliciously rich. Pairing them with the charcuterie to start is too much. I'm not a meat guy, but these are much more interesting than they sound and wonderfully tender. Tender + Ribs = Good wholesome fun. Also deserving of the hype of the faux gras which you can sample in the charcuterie board. The board is big enough for four to split and probably too big to call an appetizer for two. Never have I ever had a doggy bag for an appetizer before... The place is still slammed packed, but they seem to be handling it really well. We had to wait for valet when arriving, but despite four groups ahead of us when we left, they managed to pull all the cars within a few minutes. I will say that I wasn't wild about our server. He was very sure of himself, but I didn't think he should be. I should have asked to see a sommelier for wine advice. I still can't seem to figure out the appropriate way to do so and never seem to look the part such that my servers offer to send one over. I also would have appreciated being told what was arriving on the charcuterie board. Something I think highly underrated is the Tuna Burger. I've loved it at Citronelle Lounge and I love it here. I think it is as good as the Lobster burger about which I have no complaints.
  14. DR's comprehensive evaluation of DC-area wine lists from the January Washingtonian is finally available online. It's a great read if you haven't already seen it and a good resource if you have.
  15. Does anyone know who the new chef will be? I gather Chef Whigham is heading to Georgetown with Chef Seaver. The Post piece said there was sous at Saint Ex who was taking over, but made no mention of what would be happening here. I'd be sorry to see it change much, its been one of my go to spots for good reasonably priced meals of late.
  16. TK is dropping bombs today! The Eric Ripert's Harvest will officially be the new place at the M St Ritz, Central might have some siblings in the works & the new owners of the Latham are morons, and Chef Wabeck's reappearance to come in an interesting pairing & reversal of roles:
  17. I agree. Maybe you don't like the food, maybe they didn't do a good job the nights you've been, but its worth keeping in mind that the bar area and the tasting room are inherently going to be very different experiences. I love eating at the bar at Eve, but while the food and service have always been good when I have been there, they do not compare - and I would not expect them to - to my one experience in the tasting room. That being said, if you aren't impressed and don't want to spend your money there, far be it for me to insist that you be part of the masses that make it so hard to get a reservation there.
  18. Firefly is actually very close by. Especiallly if you are arriving at Komi via Dupont Circle metro. I'd go there or pony up for the wine pairing at Komi and rest assured I'd be getting plenty to drink that night... ETA: Firefly is a half mile away from Komi
  19. Now two have recommended this, and I am intrigued. Can someone explain how this works, what it costs, what type of food & drink it involves?
  20. Anyone been to and had anything good to eat in Cancun? Yes, I realize this is a silly place to go, but I'm still going and I'll be a lot warmer than I am in DC tonight...
  21. Easy does it, man. The fact is you don't know what they were thinking or why they sat you there. You really don't know if there was an excuse or not, so until you have heard from them why they did it, you aren't really in a position to judge. You may not have liked what they did, but without knowing why they did so, you are maligning their honesty, intellect and intent. You were there, and I was not, but that does not seem fair.
