  1. Any new Lisbon/Porto recommendations? Especially for New Year’s Eve, tu we will have 8 days to eat between these two cities, so looking for many ideas!
  2. Went through 30lbs of candy last night in mount pleasant.
  3. Casey Patten sounds a bit like he is acting lika an asshat in this article. https://www.google.com/amp/amp.dcist.com/amp/articles/create%3farticle_id=5b476430ca036e00014a030c
  4. maybe related to this Jul 7, 2018 - "Craft Beer Bar and Burger Spot The Black Squirrel Closing, Craft Beer Bar and Restaurant Seasons & Sessions Opening" on popville.com
  5. I went. Enjoyed the huitlacoche risotto, the crudo, the duck tacos (although they were a bit dry) and another dish I can’t remember. We also had the suspiro mexicano, which was tasty. As someone who travels in Latin America A LOT I thought it was very good. Trying to be similar to Pujol. I appreciated the wide selection of Mexican wines. It’s expensive. Especially with a cocktail and a few glasses of wine.
  6. They should focus on the service. Our group of 10 at the location on 14th on Saturday for a friend’s birthday had such bad service it was all we could do but laugh. It took an hour to get drinks (made wrong) and apps, plates dropped in the middle of the table. Meals didn’t come out at the same time. Wrong orders. Just a total lack of interest and care.
  7. We had a work retreat there and the lunch buffet was the best I’ve ever had at one of those types of things.
  8. It’s great. Highly recommend going for a tasting.
  9. I would also consider this to be an interesting, and somewhat traditional pan-Mexican menu. I would kill for some of these dishes up here. I usually only get these at parties at the houses of friends. You might look into the various cooking classes and dinners held at the Mexican Cultural Center. Pati Jinich hosts several tables a year (they sell out quickly) celebrating regional cuisines of Mexico with excellent guest chefs. http://www.instituteofmexicodc.org/pati.php Also, if you sign up for their event list, sometimes there are other dinners you can attend. If you ever can attend an event there catered by their chefs, go. The food is espectacular!
  10. Just to note, this is not correct. Let’s not lump all of Latin America together. Just like all of Africa isn’t the same, and India isn’t Sri Lanka or Pakistan DC has the largest Salvadoran population in the US, many other Central Americans, and large Bolivian population. These countries, however, are not much known for cuisine, and even the famous foods like pupusas from El Salvador, or the breakfast tamales and spreads you get in Guatemala are not that exciting. What DC doesn’t have is a large Mexican, Argentinian, Colombian, Puerto Rican, or Peruvian population - the Latin countries known for food. Although you are seeing more and more arepas and empanadas, which means that the few Colombians, Venezuelans, Uruguayans, and Argentinians are bringing some tastes of home out to market. Taqueria los compadres in mount pleasant remains very good for traditional Mexican but it is not fancy. Although most of the best food in Mexico is not to be found in fancy places.
  11. When I’m near a big wang, sleeping is the last thing I want to do....
  12. We ended up at Arterra, which was lovely, and had some really nice wines. I bought their last bottle of 100% Tannat.
  13. Want to visit some wineries tomorrow. Delaplane is on the list. Any others I should be sure to visit nearby? I’ve like aspen dale in the past. Or any good antique shops to make a day of it?

    I use uber 4-8 times a week. And I have a car.
  15. I remain totally unimpressed by food in Nassau, but the last time I was there my colleague (a local) took me to the Green Parrot (on Paradise Island just over the bridge, looking back toward the mainland). It was the best fish sandwich and most fun bar I went to. Popular with locals. This does not mean it is great https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g147416-d1754961-Reviews-Green_Parrot_Bar_Grill-Nassau_New_Providence_Island_Bahamas.html
  16. Yes, $200 total, $100 per couple. Brain fart on my part. And I, too, was keeping the secret, selfishly.
  17. I've been to Elle several times. It is wonderful. The coffee shop during the day has wonderful pastries and breads for eat in or take out and a good coffee program. I've had good muffins and financiers inside, as well as a good old bay scone. I've also taken out delightful individual goat cheese cakes and lemon bars. I've had dinner there once, where we had interesting and tasty cocktails, good wines, a friend had a rare cider, and some unique beers. Service is spectacular. Attentive, friendly, able to make good recommendations and pairings. Between four of us we had the cheese sticks, a kim chee bread, another toast I can't remember, two orders of clam spaetzle, a charred broccoli salad, and another beet dish I can't recall. The charred broccoli was delicious, but, really, everything was spectacular. Desserts were the goat cheese cake and a chocolate tart. The cheese cake was the favorite. For four people with at least 2 drinks each, and enough food and desserts among all of us the bill was $100. Not bad at all. We walked in on a Thursday at 7 with no reservation, but this was about 10 days ago, before Tom S listed it as # 1 in his dining guide. I think it is the neighborhood restaurant DC has been looking for, and is especially the one I have been looking for in MY neighborhood of Mt. Pleasant!
  18. Don, feel feee to delete if this isn’t appropriate, but we are looking for partners interested in splitting a share of 2 season tickets to the Nats in an established pool. 2 members had to drop out, leaving 2 openings. Right now we have 2 quarter share options available (can be combined into a 1/2 share too) in an established pool. 22 games. The cost of a quarter share is approximately $3200 for two seats and includes great perks like dedicated security/entry line, first dibs on post season games, and points that can be used toward parking and stuff. Awesome seats in section 213 row G seats 17 and 18 on the aisle in the Norfolk Southern Club, out of rain and sun, right behind home plate.
  19. "Mike Isabella and Partners Sued for 'Extraordinary Sexual Harrassment" shocking. Not.
  20. I have a great one for travel and work from, of all places, lululemon.
  21. Two groups of friends have gone and loved it. Said they had amazing four star several course meals with wine for two for 25 euro total.
  22. Thanks. We saw this. Right now looks ok. We both work in international development in pretty gnarly places so we are used to being aware but are keeping our eyes open!
