  1. Happy belated birthday, ol_i! Thanks for all you do.
  2. Ha! lperry and I did go there after. :-) I agree with WWZ that it looks like Birch & Barley for porcupine's pic. Another hint is that it's an italicized place in the dining guide....
  3. I think of this question as, "are you the type of person who wants to find out whodunit by flipping to the end of the book first?" The Bravo TV blogs, especially Tom's is like a play-by-play analysis. Based on how you answer the question I posed, I think, is the best way to answer your question.
  4. I recommend reading Tom and Gail's blog posts about this episode. They were worth reading, well-written explanation on things.
  5. I just found equivalent to DR but dedicated to all things coffee. Here's their DC/Baltimore comprehensive list.
  6. It's actually a Fried Calabash Squash plate. (Don't know if that's a giveaway or not.)
  7. It was a total "I told you so," from SeanMike--I teased him about this last we dined here. Not sure SeanMike's date was his standards, but I think he can land better fishes than the lady in question he posted about...
  8. Not in DC, but right on the outskirts in Takoma Park, MD is this Korean-American place called Mark's Kitchen. I don't think there's a thread on it. They have many vegan options. I had their bibimbap yesterday and it was pretty decent. Discount if you are a coop member.
  9. ^ Bibiana? I hope not breaking faux pas but if I don't attach, I'm going to forget. Where is this?
  10. I think when you or someone posted the Arlington tax deficit list, they were on it, I thought. So maybe that's it?
  11. I've used beer, spirits, and wine in various recipes over the years. I've added beer to my soups, stocks, pie fillings, chops, roasts, turkey, Mac and cheese, etc. it's very versatile, based on what type of beer, what flavors you want the dish used in brought out, etc. I think it's great, and the only time I've been disappointed is when I tried baking Guinness brownies. But then again, I blamed the Guinness and not the recipe :-)
  12. Yep, agree with Cheezepowder. Might add Lyon Hall or Liberty Tavern, but by 6:30p, as it'll probably fill up around that time. Another option is the upstairs of Northside Social, where they open their wine bar at 5:00pm. Cava might be another thought, but sometimes, I'll venture to the high tops at Cheesecake Factory if my dining companions aren't so particular. Beerwise, I'd stick to NS, LH, LT or Green Pig.
  13. Nah, the credit goes SOLELY to Linda. I've been too entrenched in my own issues that I'm grateful Linda agreed to take over. Please give her hugs and treat her to wine or tea next time you meet her!
  14. I don't know if they can work with you, but I've heard positive things about Tea with Mrs. B. Other places are the Park Hyatt or Teaism, maybe?
  15. Roast Springfield Butcher duck leg roasted low temp with kabocha pumpkins Slow cooked WF baby backs rib (requested to cut in a 1x1 riblet size) with daikon WF daikons come with stems, so I stir-fried those for some greens. Rice
  16. I often wonder if folks know there is Science Rock, Multiplication Rock, AND Money Rock.Little man now knows them all, thanks to the local library. Which I may need to re-listen to ease the pain after reading something that left such a gagging feeling or poor taste in mouth. Blech.
  17. I found it odd to find the Ommegang Witte on tap at the Atomic Billards in Cleveland Park at this time of year, but for $6, it sure hit the spot. Sure, it's lighter in flavor than Allegash White, but it still tastes like a Belgian-style brewing compared to many brands that "say" they do this style.
  18. I like Talenti's but their gelato consistentcy is a bit different than, say, Dolcezza or Dolci Gelati, though. I have seen Coconut at WF or HT, and I like how HT usually has them on sale. I do LOVE how I can reuse the containers for knick-knacks afterwards -- they survive they dishwasher heat, and with the screwtop closing, they've been used to hold screws, children's medicine dispensers, coffee grounds, flour, etc. Note: The containers can't withstand high heat, and I don't think they are BPA-free, so use with caution....
  19. Rhone1998 -- didn't get a picture. But the meat and texture will be slightly different. My mom loves the pate at the Banh Mi So 1 place in Eden Center. Otherwise, I saw DC sandwich on Route 50 as a suggestion. <shrug> *snurp?*
  20. Just received news one of my foster greyhounds (I used to help with ex-racing greyhounds) passed away last night. That makes three passings now. Makes me a bit sad but happy they all lived to double digits. Makes me hug mine a little more--she just turned 12!
  21. Would Barracks Row places qualify? I think they're all open late?
  22. Sea salt butterscotch caramels are the find of the day. Little solace for this tough day but a good find....
  23. I can't believe I never thought of slow-roasting my turkey before!! It is certainly a life-saver in my case, as little man's school Thanksgiving holiday party was today, and I wasn't sure if any parent signed up to bring a turkey. Either way, I love Dawson's Market for carrying smaller turkeys (9.13lbs), and I love the flavor my Bell & Evans turkey ended up emitting. I slow roasted a semi-brined turkey at 225 degrees F overnight, and out came a pretty good turkey for a no-fuss, letting me sleep method. My oven may have been a little on the hot side, as it was slightly dry for me, but boy, was I pretty happy when more than half of it was devoured at the party and little man, who professed he did not like turkeys, changed his mind after tasting the one I made (went for seconds!).
