  1. Like lperry, I've replaced my water with alcohol. I don't think vodka added enough flavor for me, so I've used gin for the berries, brandy or rum with my apples, etc. It ends up pretty tasty. :-)
  2. I'm being serious! Beside, the grammar geek in me immediately went, "oh, shouldn't it be Countess, then?" Right?! The only one I found was Smurfette, but even she has to share the limelight with Brainy or Papa Smurf. I smurf something fishy here. :-)
  3. Not an obvious search, but here's an old thread to get you started: Wine Storage.
  4. Well, considering I nominated Elsie the Cow, I think Hello Kitty is perfectly acceptable! Plus, Sanrio maintains Hello Kitty is human (or something like that). I meant to add a smiley in my OP, since I meant it to humorous that one should list which version they are nominated. Incidentally, can anyone name a female cereal icon? (Not counting sports figures on Wheaties boxes.) I can only think of male figures, such as Tony the Tiger, Golden Bear, Trix the Rabbit, etc.
  5. I think it's great you went to try to clarify this issue, foodobsessed6.
  6. I think to be fair, you'll have to clarify which versions. I personally like Elsie - the flower always made a difference. :-)
  7. I went here for dim sum some time in the summer and like it much better than Mark's Duck House and Fortune. It's probably the better option in the Northern VA area right now. Service was nice too--been meaning to go back.
  8. SeanMike should've phrased it as "A toast to Mr. and Mrs. T. Marshall Fawley, III!" (Assuming third based on handle name.) I understand, based on tweets, that Jake contributed a great concocted punch, as well as something by Derek. Congrats to the newlyweds!!!
  9. I just watched it on free On Demand, and I am really glad Chef O'Brien is not moving on. I was really upset the edited portion showed him making an off-hand comment that I took as a racist comment toward Chef Yagi. NOT. Ok. I will never dine there, as I took his comment quite personally, even if that isn't what he meant. The conscious lack of courtesy made humor is preciously why there's a continual divide in this nation. I'm not exactly sure why but I'm still feeling rather sick from his comment.
  10. You'll sort of understand if you go see the movie, "Wreck-It Ralph." :-)
  11. AB: I skipped your post! Am not sure I recall either -- so sorry to have been silent. I think I was complaining about their Wasabi Trail Mix? Anyhoo, I thought it was great little man tried their sample of the Orange Chicken and then asked to buy a bag. It's his first time trying something and then asking to buy it. First step of consumerism at its best for an almost 6 years old boy.
  12. Tyler Cowen's link shows a total of three branches: Ricos Tacos Moya: 13948 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Woodbridge (no website) Ricos Tacos Moya 2: 10901 Main Street, Fairfax, VA Ricos Tacos Moya 3: 8685 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA
  13. @porcupine, all I can think of is "Asian emoticons would've solved that miscommunication!" (=^v^=)
  14. Well, I haven't see many people post about this, but mods, please feel free to shut this topic down, if you think it's too much. I thought it would be good to offer a topic to post about places, events, etc. fundraising or helping Hurricane Sandy victims. So far, I have been following Dana Cowin (@fwscout), Johnny Iuzzini (@Johnny_Iuzzini), and the #dineoutNYC for information. I also know that you can text to 90999 to Red Cross for a $10 donation. Any others?
  15. I think Joe H must have been really upset for him to vent like this on the board. Yes, I know there are long-complainers on this board, but this story had a purpose: a beginning, a climax, and a moral. One that I would find frustrating had the setting been moved to <insert a fine dining establishment>. Although the story may be illogical for some readers, I find the beauty of the board is to be able to vent. Vent about this, vent about how sporks don't work properly, anything. So, I hear you, Joe H. Sorry to hear that you were frustrated, but I do hope you will give these places another shot, given that we do not know the whole backstory as to why they didn't answer the phone in this case. (Btw, I have not been to either, so I do not know what they are like, but it must be nice if many members are responding.)
  16. Can you make the stock in the crockpot? I just did that a few days ago.
  17. The recon, by happenstance, since we were in Cameron Station for their Halloween festivities by invitation, is the following. I wasn't aware that they had three, four counting Crystal City location. The owner(s) wanted to focus/develop on the Shirlington, Cameron Station and the third location, so they sold the Crystal City location. It's a completely separate one. I think it's more to have a better flow of cash, selling it? The Cameron Station locale was hopping Saturday around 8pm. I sure miss Food Matters and Chef Tom, though. Not to say that Cafe Pizzaiolo wasn't bad but the target market and cooking style is different. I will say that the kid spaghetti didn't come with enough sauce but it did come with a generous sized meatball. The beer list isn't bad. I do love the fact they serve Dolci Gelato here (didn't see it at their CC location). Service was attentive, but they did put something on our check that wasn't ordered (they also happily took it off without probs). One large is good for two with a few slices to spare. I can't say I'm a fan of their crust, having been spoiled by Pupatella/Orso/Neopolitan style. This is better than Lost Dog but probably slightly worse than Del Merei or even Fire Works, scale wise to me. Will be willing to go back; the atmosphere and service was nice. Check for my portion + beer + kid spaghetti + gelato was about $25-28 which is a bit more than I spend usually with little man, though, so I would order more carefully next time.
  18. Yelp reports this place closed as of 9/29. My drive by shows of this Shopping Center, the only surviving places are: Saran (Veggie) Indian, Caribbean Grill, and Thai Thai. It looks sad otherwise. What happened?!?!
  19. Yes, it was AGM. Probably the glasses threw Iliane off :-) I think perfectly cool was an understatement, seeing how both little man and I were huddled under two THICK layers of clothing/jacket/vest. The most fashionable award goes to Mr. LPerry, though ;-) (sorry Gavin!) (And cucas!) Always great to see everyone and sorry to those I missed! Am super happy to be the proud owner of Barbra's last piece of super scrumptious pumpkin cheesecake. Also happily scarfed down Scott's ubër fab deviled eggs. Finally, am super grateful to thistle, who has provided my emergency rations for the week, with her ribs and pulled pork. Many thanks to DCDeb's +1 who put up with my corny humor. Also goes to show how flexible this group picnic is, I didn't have time to make pie, picked up a few desserts from Dawson's and zero complaints from the peanut gallery. Made my day see you all!!! PS. Little man asked what a Twinkie was, whether we can make one soon and why the "Twinkie Kid" doesn't fit inside the Twinkie pan, says the proud new owner of the Twinkie pan!
  20. Having to work late this week, I took advantage of Seamless Web services and ordered here, as they offered delivery to my workplace. My coworkers were very jealous compared to their Seamless Web choices, as the Lamb Korma and its Naan knocked the others' meals out of the ballpark. I wish I could watch the chef cook, as their combination of spices used is even better than most the Indian places in this area, imho. I just wish it was closer to home. On the upside, their website states that they are opening a branch in Rockville soon, so perhaps this might be my regular stop after little man's Chinese School on Sundays.
  21. I think this place a great fallback type of place to go to compared to other Thai places in the near vicinity: Bangkok Garden, Bangkok 54, Thai Square. But the major design fail in that area is that if you want to dine in at Thai Noy is there is no place to park. Between the demand on Stray Cat, Lost Dog, and Lebanese Taverna, it is super hard to find parking and really discourages me to go there. The other issue I had the two times that I ordered there is that the food is much sweeter than other places, so it discourages me to continue going, as I don't really think authentic Thai food should be really sweet (though, please, someone correct me if I'm wrong). But I think I will give their carry out a try soon too, as it's closer to my place than the others mentioned...
  22. Am in shock. Also sending prayers to Waitman and his family.
  23. I wish we had an Amish expert. Most Amish products I've purchased/looked at all list margarine. Wonder why.
