  1. Inferno is great, but it gets packed at peak times, and they do occasionally run out of dough. We usually go to Pizza CS or CSNY.
  2. PER YEAR. I've seen very few airports where CLEAR has significantly shorter lines than Pre-Check.
  3. Dortmund is flying right now and Madrid is floundering, so this is a real chance for Dortmund to grab points. Dortmund's American phenom Pulisic was pulled early from their league match over the weekend, so I assume he'll be starting tomorrow.
  4. Great job, Jeff! Can you answer the question from the discussion above - were the wings themselves flavored/marinated at any of the places, beyond salt and pepper in the batter?
  5. Pork pocket is BBQ pork in a pastry shell. The mac and cheese on a stick is breaded/fried mac&cheese nuggets on a skewer. Scotch egg is the traditional UK food of a hardboiled egg wrapped in ground sausage, breaded and deep fried. I don't remember what's in the knave sandwich. The seafood is exactly what you'd think. I haven't had the desire to do raw bar there.
  6. They're on the HT sale flyer for this week that came out in the DC area yesterday.
  7. You had me nodding my head until you said Dortmund was robbed. Really? Spurs earned those 3 points.
  8. I've never had the undercooked problem with the turkey legs - it's my go-to meal there, because how often do you get to gnaw on a smoked turkey leg? Other than that, pretend you're at any other fair, so bland fried foods (fish & chips, pork pockets, meat pies, fried mac & cheese, chicken strips) are probably fine, and anything you'd turn a critical cook's eye to (crabcakes, BBQ, fresh seafood) should be avoided. But really, it's all about having sweets, right?
  9. I've never understood the line. I've been several times, and it's quite good, but not as good as New Fortune in Gaithersburg, or Hollywood East in Wheaton, which never have lines.
  10. I'm sure there's a part of me that's biased against them because of the WAY that she left Grapeseed (no notice, hid the fact that she bought the place next door, took staff with her, etc.) Whether it's true or not, I attribute their opening to at least part of the reason Grapeseed closed.
  11. To me, it's to support local business, enjoy a day (or weekend) trip, see some beautiful vineyards, and drink some good wine. The better VA wines are really good, but still overpriced. You're not doing it to save money - even at a case discount price, you can go to Total Beverage and buy better wines from other regions at a better value per dollar. So as long as you have the right expectations, I vote for going. But if your only goal is to drink great wine at a great price, probably not for you.
  12. Glen Manor, Michael Shaps are two that I return to. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/travel/2014/09/11/53b61fc6-346e-11e4-a723-fa3895a25d02_story.html?utm_term=.39058150776a The article covers a lot of ground, but each region has a "best wines" subsection. Note that it's 3 years old.

  14. Kasey Keller playing there was a big influence in my choice, but also the Jewish connection, and not wanting to back ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc. like everyone else. But I'm not a Spurs fan like I am a DC United fan. I don't own a Spurs jersey, I'm not going to pay to watch a match on PPV, I'm unlikely to even go to a Spurs DC match watch at the Irish Channel. I don't hate Arsenal, and I cheered for Leicester City a couple of years back. Spurs aside, I'll root for whichever team is playing an American. :-)
  15. 17/18 Champions League draw just announced. Group H is a killer - sad to see my Spurs get drawn into the group of death. C is pretty bad as well. Group G looks the most balanced.
  16. The Honey Pig location in Germantown is already inferior to Iron Age in Rockville, so I expect that having a HP closer won't adjust my Korean BBQ rotation at all.
  17. Five years in, they've followed the industry trend and have abandoned the small plates approach. The menu is now Antipasti, Pastas, Pizzas, and Entrees. Antipasti are a mix of hot and cold, prices ranging from $8-$14, and they are all substantially sized. Pastas and pizzas are all in the $12-$18 range, and are a good size for a main. There were only 4 entrees in the entree section, basically a chicken, a steak, and a couple of seafood, all in the $20s. Last night we ordered 2 apps (risotto fritters and brussels sprouts) and 2 pastas (sausage oricchiette and carbonara) for two of us, and had leftovers. All of it was excellent, and I'd order every one of those things again. Total after a couple of extremely well made cocktails (seriously, one of the better cocktail lists in MoCo), tax and tip was $100. To repeat myself and others above, this place is better than it has any right to be five years in. It's not a destination restaurant, but for a neighborhood joint in central MoCo, it's great.
  18. We wandered by about 6:30, and they were already quoting a 30+ minute wait, so we passed. Will give it a shot once OpenTable is up and running.
