  1. When we were last down there a year or so ago, we noticed there were two Ethiopian places in NO: Nile and Cafe Abyssinia. I'm sure they don't stand up to Zenebech (most places in DC don't either), but have you checked them out?
  2. I was last at Disney a bit under 3 years ago. Boma was our favorite meal by far that trip - sorry to hear it's gone downhill. At Epcot, the German restaurant has a pretty good buffet that is a good deal if you go for lunch but not so much at dinner.
  3. Or you could go to Riverside Hot Pot in Gaithersburg, where the quality of broths (6 different to choose from) and ingredients (13 meats, 13 seafood, 23 veggies, plus dumplings, spring rolls, etc.) is quite high, and pay $24 for AYCE.
  4. Can't believe nobody else has posted in the last 6 months. Unfortunately, this is a big year for household expenses for us, so I doubt we'll make it in soon, but here's the new Metier menu that I just received in email. Price remains at $200pp, including service but not tax. Not cheap, but at 7 courses plus hors d'ouevres, that's basically $20/course before tax/tip. In my several visits to CityZen the year it closed, and now 2 to Metier, I've never had a course that wasn't worth at least $20. 5. I don't think anyone expected those 2 games would be the blowouts...
  6. He did give a shout out to Drift on 7th, so it wasn't completely a waste this week.
  7. I'm not saying that they way they implemented it isn't colossally stupid, but there's certainly a trend in dense suburban locations that charge for parking. In MoCo, Bethesda, Rockville, and Silver Spring all have paid parking.
  8. Had dinner here last night with friends. Food was pretty good - I wouldn't run back only for the food, but the beer list as noted above is fantastic. The table shared a charcuterie plate and a classic fondue. Both definitely worth ordering again. I had bites of the chopped salad (good), burger (excellent), brisket (just ok), fish and chips (excellent), and sausage sandwich (good). One clarification on Lydia's post - the small pours are 4 oz, and the full pours vary in size depending on the draft. I love the organization of the list, and that they include the ABV, origin, pour temp, and glass type, but found it odd that they didn't include IBU. Maybe it's too hard to get that info for some of the beers. Great addition to the neighborhood. Welcome to MD, NRG!
  9. That's not a current policy, though, that's a future policy. So they're all moving that direction, and are possibly selling tickets in that class for future travel, but if you fly today, only Spirit/Frontier are charging for the bins. I believe they hope it will generate more ancillary revenue, and drive sales to their websites, but I am expecting the biggest impact will be higher revenue for Southwest.
  10. What they're really trying to do is drive booking to their own websites. If you book via Orbitz or Travelocity, you're just going to be comparing the basic economy fares. To see how much a "real" economy ticket is (i.e., the one that lets you bring your rollaboard and get your free soft drink), you'll have to go to their website. I'm sure the aggregators are figuring out how to retool their searches to accomodate these new fare classes.
  11. Wait, what? United and Delta's websites both say that a "carry-on and a small personal item" are included for each passenger for each fare. To my knowledge, only the ultra-low-cost airlines (Spirit, Frontier) charge to put a bag in the overhead compartment.
  12. Street rumor is that American is going to follow the ultra-low-cost Spirit/Frontier path, and their lowest published fare will no longer include a carry-on bag. This year I was one flight short of Gold status, and they wouldn't waive it, so rather than start over, I will probably switch airlines.
  13. I was there a few months ago. Duck was very good, the stir fried garlic sprouts were nice. Everything else was American Chinese food. High quality ingredients, everything cooked very well, so it's some of the "best" American Chinese you'll get, but priced accordingly.
  14. The area where Marriott is going is not the south side of the Bethesda downtown district where there are always parking problems. It's about 6 blocks north of the Metro station, next to the Tastee Diner. Even on Friday/Saturday nights, the garages in that area do not fill, and it's not even that hard to find a street spot.
  15. The fish balls were fantastic - possibly the best I've had anywhere. They were not dense or gummy like they are a lot of other places. They were light and just enough chew to hold them together, and tasted like fish, not just "fishy". I completely agree on getting double fishballs.
  16. So, tried it today for lunch. We got a dry hot pot with beef, pork belly, fish balls, "flammulina" (enoki mushrooms), 5 spice tofu, rice cake, and lotus root. We ordered it "medium", and it was still plenty spicy with a moderate amount of sichuan peppercorns. I could have handled it hotter, but was fine with this level of heat. I think we have to be better at ordering ingredients - the dish didn't really come together in a way that made me go "wow", though it was good. We tried to have them suggest combinations, but there wasn't enough English being spoken there for us to really get our point across. Also had crispy salty duck (just ok), a fried whole fish with sweet & sour sauce (also just ok), and a Sichuan Beef & Tofu dish that was fabulous. Huge menu. Will definitely be back to try other things, but there are certainly plenty of Chinese places in Rockville to compete!
  17. Alas, while I was a cheerleader of this event, I cannot attend on that date. Hope others have a great time!
  18. There are other great options in Rockville for Chinese, so I'd only go here for the hot pot. Will have to try it, spice "medium", and will report back.
  19. Tim Carman also commented on the lighter smoke profile and lack of smoke ring in his review.
  20. I'm the only one in the family that tolerates the sichuan peppercorns - is this place even worth a visit if we have to order everything light on the spicy?
  21. Have, not had. Still on the menu. And you can get them with "redneck fondue" for dipping - their pretty good chili mixed with cheese and scallions.
  22. One of Marriott's regular promotions is called "cars stay free", where they basically build the parking cost into your room rate. For instance, i just stayed at a Courtyard in Seattle at Pioneer Square last weekend, for $165/night. Now, that's a pretty decent rate anyway, but it was a "cars stay free, breakfast included" rate. Since parking at that hotel is $45/night, and my breakfast bill for 4 of us averaged about $55 each day, that effective room rate was $65/night. Anyway, that promotion is often available at either the Courtyard or Residence Inn in downtown Philly.
