Today is one of those days that I am glad I keep extra meals in the freezer. I do not want to cook tonight. So, frozen leftover pasta sausage bake. I will make fresh salads though. Those don't freeze. Also nice herb focaccia from Ravenhook from last Saturday's farm market.

It makes me think of that castle on the Isle of Man, where all the rooms have tableaux of past people. Also, wax museums. Yes, I am a wimp, but the castle made me a little freaked out, and wax museums frighten me. (Peele Castle, I think? Had scary mannequins and 2 Manx cats who patrolled the grounds and castle. Cats were cool.) Once I had to do an event at Madam Taussad's. Oh my god. Such a strange evening.

Restaurants Open for Dine In
saf replied to curiouskitkatt's topic in Philadelphia Restaurants and Dining
It is distressing. I am high risk too. But I am so ready to GO places and DO things, and I know I can't. I will be so relieved when this is contained. -
Mama Ayesha's tonight. I picked up dinner for us and for 2 friends. Well managed ordering and delivery, although they did not have the garlic sauce. The whole menu is available. We did not order drinks, so I can't speak to that. Food traveled well.

I stopped at A. LItteri for some groceries the other day. Pasta is well stocked, as is olive oil, as is the deli counter. Sandwiches also available. Not crowded, very clean, and they have yeast, flour, wine, frozen and fresh pasta.

Little Coco's for dinner tonight. It's about 3 blocks away, so easy walk. We ate appetizer buffet, and it was tasty. Also wine. If you like their pasta (we weren't in a pasta mood tonight), Thursday is pasta and prosecco night there. So, a deal on 2 pastas with 2 salads and a bottle of wine.

Beau Thai (Mt Pleasant) last night. Spring rolls, which came back to life nicely after a brief turn in the toaster oven. KaPow (chicken for him) and Udom Curry (chicken) for me. Also wine and a strawberry frose. I would skip the frose next time. I love it in a bar, but it just didn't do it for me last night. Well made, survived the brief ride home well, but just... I dunno. Maybe it's not frose season yet. Pickup was well managed - I was picking up for us and for 2 close by friends so we could all zoom Thai together. They had a line laid out outside, with planters to keep it from interfering with the sidewalk traffic, tape for spacing, one person allowed in the atrium at a time, all pickup in the atrium.

I think they are new - the newsletter this week made a big deal about them.

Red Rocks (Columbia Heights) tonight. 1 pizza, 1 calzone, bottle of wine, and aviation cocktail. Very nice.

Purple Patch - carryout last Friday. So good. Tocino was good. L enjoyed the rice noodle dish with shrimp. Order by phone - the web page told him he couldn't have shrimp! Mezcalero - carryout last Saturday. Mole tacos are tasty! And, as ever, L had the shrimp and chorizo quesadilla. He loves that thing. --- Il Pizzico (MC Horoscope)

Beau Thai does what they call a Thai Ice Cream dessert. Bun, just a regular bread bun, with an ice cream sundae. Surprisingly good. Doesn't appear to be on the takeout menu.

I live very close to here and eat here regularly. Mezcalero was the source of Friday night's takeout dinner. Quite tasty. I had my usual enchiladas de mole, and L had his favorite chorizo ad shrimp quesadilla. Also margaritas. And they put a bag of the house made chips and little tubs of the salsas in too!

The chicken was as amazing as ever. The potatoes were good, as was the salad. It traveled very well, and heated back up beautifully. Unpack it as soon as you get home so the salad doesn't get too hot. There was no bread available when I ordered either. So I made an expedition across the park to Bread Furst, and we had a nice baguette with dinner. Ginger molasses cookies. So good. I thought I made good ginger molasses cookies. Oh, I have a new level to aspire to now.

Thank you all! I posted this after checking Kinship and finding them sold out. Apparently, folks cancelled. I managed to get a dinner pickup slot from Kinship tonight! So, chicken, fizzy wine, and cookies. My husband is so excited. Roast chicken is his favorite meal, and this is his favorite roast chicken! Sadly, bread was sold out, but I can find something for that. My favorite bakery is closed for now, but maybe something else. Or maybe I will make parker house rolls this afternoon. Can't compete with theirs though! I'll be using these other ideas too. I fear a long time without restaurant meals.

I still won't eat meatballs with pasta. But I love love love meatball subs. I also like kazhak meatballs with cherries on flat bread. But I do not want them on pasta.

Hey folks, I'm looking for thoughts on nice places that are doing takeout. Thursday is our anniversary. I had a plan! Kusuma exhibit at the Hirshhorn. Nice lunch somewhere, probably the bar at Central. Building museum for the afternoon. Then a good place to sit at a bar and watch opening day baseball with dinner. Clearly, this is not happening. Not any of it. At least, not this week. We could make a nice dinner, but we are doing an awful lot of cooking at home, and miss eating out already. So, thoughts? We live in Petworth. I would prefer to keep it in the city, or at least not too inconvenient from here. Pickup is probably better than delivery. I don't eat seafood, but he does.

Make vacherins to serve the ice cream in? I use the recipe in Jacques Pepin's techniques book, and make them the right size to serve one scoop of ice cream.

I like to make ice cream. I have a lot of extra egg whites. I freeze them in an ice cube tray. They last a long time and thaw fairly quickly. If you like Ramos Gin Fizzes.. Swiss meringue buttercream. Meringues. Angel food cake (I prefer chocolate). Pavlova. Macarons. Here, useful roundups of recipes to use egg whites from David Lebovitz The Washington Post

AGH! There is an ice cream truck that parks at the rec center down the street from me. I hate it. I can sing its entire song, and I hate it so.
