  1. These are all wines that, theoretically, are never out of stock. They can all be ordered with one days notice so the venue doesn't have carry any inventory. That's why they make you chose the wine 3 days before the event. But, to answer your question, yes- those are some terrible choices. I'm also pretty certain they are all from the same distributor.
  2. 30 years ago, Jean-Louis was the first restaurant in Washington with a $95 tasting menu option.
  3. I walked by last week and the printed menu had Dover Sole at $42. That's way less than any place else I can think of.
  4. Australia dealt with this problem in a direct and successful manner. It might be time for that here.
  5. Good statement by Elliott. More people should speak out like this. The ridiculous MoCo Liquor Control Board, after all these years is still a terrible joke in terms of pricing and it's non-existent "service", the county itself has an unfriendly business climate. Its a shame an affluent county like this is run in such a backwards manner.
  6. I laughed when I read this article yesterday. It seems to imply all millennials eat avocado toast. That's pretty hilarious.
  7. Nestlé is a very, very large company, actually the largest food company in the world. They do almost $3billion in water business yearly because they own 38 brands (Evian, Perrier, Panna, San Pelegrino, +++) and a surpising number of food businesses. Much more than Swiss Miss.
  8. This location has been a perennial black hole. It never gained traction when L'Espinasse or Alain Ducasse were there, never heard a peep about Decanter, which this replaces. It has an entirely in-inspiring menu. $39 Bistro box lunch- such a bargain. NOT
  9. Interesting article. Cathal has a point that Old Town has a pretty static population and needs to change it up after all these years.
  10. 09 Was a very good vintage. Some Amarone might seem too powerful right now. What I recommended was Recioto, which is dessert version of the wine- almost port like.
  11. Sancerre and goat cheese are both staples in the Loire valley. Another one of those regional matches that's usually shockingly good. Others to try: a cold glass of Chablis and a really ripe Epoisses. The coolest one, IMO, really ripe Gorgonzola and Amarone Recioto. It shows you how these products were made to go with each other.
  12. Don, even though I know and respect Bob Parker, I agree that promoting large, high alcohol, clunky red wines (like SQN) has created a market of people who only want to drink that kind of wine. He also created the label drinker and score-hound, rather than drinkers with open minds looking for new things. You and I both know plenty of these kinds of people.
  13. That's what I took away from the preview. Bethesda is a tough market. I just thought this was a silly sounding concept. And where does pho fit in with "sizzling platters"?
  14. For those who have never seen the organ at the Walt Disney Center,
  15. So did Pier 2934 on the corner of 30th and M. It was a great place for one pound bags of steamed seafood. Especially Alaskan king crab.
  16. What a cool looking space. Dark, dim spots are getting tiresome. I like the bright look. Drinks here, dinner at Uncoventional. Seems like a natural.
