  1. Vince and Dominic's. Hard to believe, in business for 31 years and no thread here. Sadly they closed for good last night. When the kids were younger we used to go here on Friday nights while renovating the house and making endless stops at the Design Expo, now Home Depot. http://www.bethesdanow.com/2014/05/31/vince-dominics-closes-after-31-years-in-bethesda/
  2. Planning to take the kids hiking this weekend and looking for someplace to stop on the way home for either a late lunch or early dinner. Any suggestions?
  3. Looks like they may be closed. Walked by twice this weekend and they were not open and no signs of life. No longer on Open Table either.
  4. Bethesda location opens today. Will be interesting to see how they do in that spot. Not a high traffic area and not a lot of parking nearby.
  5. Tried to pick some up at A&H earlier this week but they had already sold out. Has anyone seen in stores this season - what is the pricing looking like this year?
  6. We attempted to hit Vaso's for lunch today only to find they are not open on Monday. Ended up here by default. Place was packed for a Monday but I suspect Cinco de Mayo had something to do with that. Chips and salsa were not worth the calories. Tacos were decent but nothing to make me rush back anytime soon.
  7. I was walking around at lunch today and passed by 100 King St (vacant for awhile) and notice a bunch of permits on the windows and obvious demolition going on. Went back to the office and did a bit of digging and found a submission by Carluccios on the upcoming docket of the Board of Architectural Reviews. Apparently a UK based Italian chain. Carluccios.pdf
  8. Thanks to the bartender today for ruining my nice relaxing lunch. In the middle of my meal he decided it was best opportunity to start chatting up the two ladies next to me. Next thing I know I get a 10 minute story about his ski accident in high school, broken wrist with bone sticking out, vomiting, twisting back in place, etc. Don't think he spared any detail, except maybe re-filling my drink that sat empty for the last 10 minutes of my meal.
  9. Fish Taco on MacArthur Blvd is pretty decent, not as good when they first opened but passable.
  10. Headed here in a few weeks for spring break and looking for some suggestions. We will be at the Marriott in Los Suenos for 6 nights followed by 2 nights in Arenal and finally 1 night in San Jose.
  11. Stopped in last night with friends to check out. They opened early this week and are still getting their feet under them. Nice draft beer list although by 8 pm we were informed that they were out of about 5-6 beers. Service was friendly albeit a little slow at the start. Food was on par with St. Arnold's. Two of us enjoyed the mussels, while a few others had some type of sausage sandwich which they did not care for. I did. It try so can't comment. Beer pricing is a bit odd and also pricey. Most beers were $11 for .5 liter and $15 for 1 liter. They also offered a few beers for $8 for .3 liters. I tried to order a .3 liter of one beer but was told I could only order .5 or 1, which seems a bit odd to me, just Fill the glass and charge me $8. Instead I skipped the last beer and went with water. It was pretty full when we left and we will return. Tough location off the main strip a bit, hope they make it.
  12. We stopped in here tonight for an early dinner before my kids basketball game nearby. We arrived just before 5 to find a nearly empty restaurant, one other two top was already eating. Our experience can be summed up by my 10 year old "Dad, next time can we go to Medium Rare". Nothing was bad, just average. The chopped salad was very good, bread not nearly as good as MR and the wine list is a train wreck. They don't even bother to list the brand of wines, just Pinot Noir, Cab, etc. The steak was decent although slightly overlooked but liked the option for sweet potato fries. Kids got the kid size order which looked to be a 1/2 order of the steak for $14.82 versus the adult $18.82 version, not a vey good value. We didn't ask but they would have been better off splitting the adult size if that is an option. No times for dessert. Service was friendly. When we left around 6 the place was completely empty.
  13. Between living in Bethesda and working in Old Town Alexandria I feel like I have been relegated to a lifetime of mediocre dining options.
  14. We had family in town this weekend and one of them suggested Mi Cocina for dinner last night. I objected but was overruled. Needless to say 2 hours later everyone came around to my side of things. A cold plain room made even colder every time someone opened the door. Below average service (waiter didn't seem to know menue) and even worse food and water downed drinks. Live music was a nice touch and they do validate parking.
  15. Had a really nice dinner here with friends on Saturday night. Had a quick drink at the bar before heading upstairs for dinner. Two of us had the chicken discussed above and both enjoyed it, myself more so. Wife had the rockfish which I managed to get a small bite and would not hesitate to order again. Last entire was the lamb which I din't get a chance to try. Service was great all night. Wine list was I bit pricey in my opinion. One minor quibble was the proliferation of stink bugs in the upstairs dining room, which really took away from the experience when spending a substantial amount of money on a meal. We must have had at least 8-10 stink bugs on us or the table, including plates throughout the night. The waiter when informed noted it was a problem but offered no other solution. It was not a big deal to me but pour friends were bit freaked out as the bugs kept landing in her hair. Looking forward to getting back there in summer after a hike with the kids to try out the beer garden.
  16. Taking over half of the old RiRa space in Bethesda (Elm St) - disappointing that something more original not going there but seems par for the course in this area. http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Blogs/Table-Talk/March-April-2014/Noodles-and-Company-Ri-Ra-Bethesda/
  17. Basketball season has us all over the County mostly at dinner time so we ended up here last Sunday night. Everyone' seemed pleased with everything we ordered: chicken meatballs, Caesar salad, calamari, roasted vegetables, mussels and bolognese. Great service and reasonably priced.
  18. We finally made it here. Daughter has a basketball game nearby so we stopped in for an early dinner. Had the floating market soup and it was excellent and not overly spicy which I was a bit concerned about. Services was a little rough and cold but would happily return if in the area.
