  1. I'll have to be a game-time decision, alas. I prefer VA, but since I can't commit, I don't expect that to have much sway.
  2. That tag was everywhere...as a student at GW in the early-mid 90s, who didn't stray too far from campus/foggy bottom, I still saw it all the time.
  3. We got three pies the other day as part of an office lunch. I thought they were excellent. We had a veggie pizza (which i didn't try), a buffalo chicken pizza (really tasty chicken, sauce and crust), and another called something along the lines of Mama's original (it was square, deep-dish-ish, and quite good if a bit oily). i can't find a menu to offer the details I forget. I did think it was some of the best pizza I've had in DC, which I don't mean to be damning it with faint praise. It was expensive as balls tho...$80 for three large pies. Yikes. I look forward to explaining how I managed to spend $80 on pizza for an office staff of 7. D'OH!
  4. I'm going to do my damnedest to attend the VA event, but with a 1-year old, I reserve the right to back out at the last minute. I don't have a date preference at this time, but do prefer the event be held at the Tysons location.
  5. So, how do we sign up to become part of your family? The Mediterranean Bakery has a spectacular and delicious assortment of baklava, which may be obvious given the fact that, you know, it's called the Mediterranean Bakery. I also recall a tasty beef shawarma...but stay away from the gyro, which used pre-cut and previously frozen meat when i was last there.
  6. Well, given the shape of the spoon and the number of tines on the fork, it's clearly Cafe Taj.
  7. Good lord the Flavors list is incredible. From Wiki: "Both technologies were originally developed to deliver precise doses of drugs." This thing just keeps getting better! Diet cherry vanilla percocet please!
  8. Had my first trip here on Saturday, and enjoyed the burger and fries. But enough about such trifle things as the food because this place has the MOST EPIC COKE MACHINE of all time. How has nobody mentioned this before?!?! There's coke, diet, zero, fanta, and a whole bunch of shit you aint never heard of. I'm considering going here just to drink my way though all the sodas... We need a new thread that charts the locations of these beautiful machines.
  9. So, on Friday I gave the Hot Argentine Sausage sandwich a go, and it was delicious! It came grilled to order (probably was par cooked) and was served on a bun with lettuce, tomato, grilled onion, and grilled peppers. There was also some kind of special, mystery sauce, which I don't think was one of the other three sauces they offer when getting chicken. Both the sausage and sauce had good flavor, and for me, the right amount of heat, tho I would imagine those that seek out spicy foods would be disappointed. It was so good i damn near went back on Saturday to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but went to Elevation Burger instead. Anyway, I look forward to giving it another go.
  10. Am I the only one who thinks that Target, being on the 4th floor, is inconvenient? How can you design a Target for which there is no direct access, thus forcing you to use an elevator/escalator (as far as I know, neither via the garage which provides access on the 3rd level, nor the street which provides access on the 1st)? I might be picking a nit here, but I think it's a pain in the ass. Maybe cause i always have the kid/stroller in tow and am forced to wait for an elevator.
  11. I strayed from the chicken last night and got an order of Arroz Chaufa, which is basically fried rice. I was intrigued by the description on the menu, which i don't recall in full (and is unfortunately absent from their website), but remember it including dark meat, egg, scallion, and I think some additional ingredients. This is not a pre-mixed entree that they scoop out and serve, but something they fry up on order. I have to admit, I was excited. Alas, it didn't live up to expectations -- it was really bland. I added salt, which helped a good deal, but still left me wanting. Oh well, it happens. I think I'll give the Hot Argentine Sausage a go next time.
  12. Happy New Year! FWIW, I'm on the site several times a day. While I believe I'm one of the oldest members, I have only made a laughable number of posts (less than 200) during this time. The problem is, I rarely go out to eat, and when I do, it's usually not worth writing about (case in point...we ate at Chevy's (!) yesterday. Guess what? It sucked! Whatever, I have a one-year old and the place is colorful and we can give him chips to snack on immediately). I do, however, greatly appreciate the time and effort put in by the other members that post regularly (and even those that don't). Also, while I'm a rare-poster, and I've never met any members (wait, not true, i met EricOx accidentally one evening), i do feel like part of a community, and one that surpasses most of what I experience via Facebook et al.
  13. IggI -- please share what you ordered. (I'm curious, and not criticizing what you wrote) I'm equidistant from Haandi and Cafe Taj. The latter usually offers a 10% off coupon, not to mention that I think their curry is very tasty, so I've always gone there. Seems like I should expand my horizons...
  14. At Lost Dog, their best sandwich is the Turkey Reuben. For The Italian Store, i'm partial to the Philly. And, as an aside, Pie-Tanza recently surprised me with a solid Chicken Parm (get extra sauce) and Italian Sub
  15. We had some uneven take out from Cafe Taj the other night. We began with the Combination Platter and found the vegetable pakoras to be tasty, but that's really it for that dish. The problem was that the other items just didn't seem fresh and were overly dry. The lamb kabob was two tiny pieces, both of which were as dry as can be. The chicken pakora had one tasty bite right in the middle, but to either side it was dry and tasteless. The samosa was just bland. We really enjoyed the curry sauce that the Shrimp Curry was prepared in, and would get a curry dish again. However, this particular dish, priced at $20, was a total rip off. I don't think it had more than 10 shrimp, and we're talking 50-count size here. Fortunately, 2 orders of Onion Kulcha helped us make the most of the dish by sopping up all the remaining curry sauce. We also enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala, which was ample, tho it was hardly prepared in a "lightly spiced tomato sauce". Instead, it came in what most would consider an overly sweet tomato sauce. I bet most people on this board would get this dish and think it came prepared in canned tomato sauce drek ... but what can I say, we like what we like. They forgot the raita, which i had to go back for (oh well), but it's an ample portion, and tasty.
  16. I've been a few times and recall Bissinger's, which makes a fantastic apple dumpling (with vanilla or cinnamon ice cream). I've had good gyros and other standard fair fare (yes!), but never thought to keep track of their names. Any other frequent visitors have food vendor suggestions?
  17. No way, the Haunted House is my favorite ride at Knoebel's!!!
  18. Thanks, Kibbee for the heads up on the Groupon, and thanks, Don, for the great advice. It's simple, I did what Don told me. I ordered the Gheymeh. I put all the rice in a large bowl. I dumped the yogurt sauce on top of it and mixed it together. I added the stew. I grabbed my shovel, er spoon, and dug in. Delicious and filling (it's the rice). Not nearly as much meat as, say, what you get when you order kabobs, but that's an observation not a complaint (tho I'll always take more meat!). I look forward to using the Groupon i gifted my wife to do it all over again.
  19. [bump] Any recent visitors willing to share their experience? I'll be making a trip with the family down there in a month or so. Thanks!
  20. Well, fine, the Caesar Salad was average at best and the sides were forgettable. However, the lobster was expertly cooked, the service was impeccable, and the bartender made a damn fine Manhattan. That's been the case at all the Palm locations I've been to over the years, and it's enough to get me to return. Oh, and there's this:
  21. A really unsatisfying burger today...tasteless, greasy, small. The house sauce was applied sparingly and wasn't very good. Too bad really. On the other hand, the onion rings were spectacular...thick, crunchy, tasty dipping sauce.
  22. I've had Sweet Rice a few times since I moved to the area around a year ago and it's been good every time. The familiar complaint is that the portions are on the small side, but I think that depends on what you order (i.e. pad thai large, pad woon sen small). Two items that really stand out for me are the Panang Chicken and the Gai Sam Rod. It's not the quality of the chicken or the presentation, but the damn sauces that they come in, which I can't get enough of. Particularly the Gai Sam Rod, with a sauce that is perhaps the best combination of sweet and spicy I've ever had. Summer Rolls, Crispy Springrolls, and Tom Kha Gai are all solid versions, and yes, come with yummy dipping sauces (well, not the soup). Did i mention i like the sauces?
