  1. I just followed the Better Homes & Gardens technique, which said to put eggs in a pan, just cover them with cold water, bring to a rapid boil, remove from heat and cover for 15 mins. This worked perfectly for me.
  2. From Paris Hilton to... Danica Patrick! FAIL!
  3. Went here for the first time last weekend and really enjoyed it. Compared to Moby's, my usual purveyor of kabobs, this place blows them out of the water. I've always thought that Moby's overcooks everything, whereas the three items i had here (Steak, minced steak, and chicken), all came out very juicy, and just perfectly cooked. It also came with about 4 cups of rice, that was delicious too, if overwhelming. We got the cucumber/yogurt sauce and that was nicely prepared as well. The only drawback was the bread (a plus on the Moby's side), which appeared to be pre-made, and was sliced and offered up in a plastic bag. At least they're trying to keep it fresh. Oh, and I love how they just give you a pitcher of water for the table.
  4. Had a very nice meal here over the weekend. I shared the pasta tasting menu and steak sampler and there were no misses that I can think of. The standouts were the pasta with broccoli, the pasta with spinach, the steak with blueberry sauce and the steak with the balsamic reduction. The blueberry sauce was actually really good, with it being really light with just a hint of blueberry and not some overwhelmingly sweet, gloopy sauce. A friend had the Strozzapreti al Pomodoro, and the red sauce it came in was delicious (I didn't taste the balls, as it were).
  5. Had a delicious lunch here the other day, starting with the Picnic Basket hoecake -- pulled pork, baked beans and cole slaw piled high on cornmeal flatbread -- it was large enough to be a main dish. I know that the cake in the hoecake is what is supposed to be the draw of this dish, but underneath all those toppings, I'm not sure I even tasted the cornmeal flatbread. I don't mean this as a criticism, just that it could have been served on a piece of white bread and I wouldn't have noticed that either. I suppose this says more about me than the dish. Anyway, this was followed by the Braised Beef Shortribs, cooked perfectly and which fell apart when prodded by a knife. Art was also gracious enough to stroll through the dining room, stopping at each table and offering up some kind words. It was a nice touch.
  6. Given that 3 others were up for elimination, this seemed like the perfect time for producers to exercise their right to keep Dale on for personality considerations over his abilities as a chef. The show is truly worse with Dale off of it this early in the competition, and they could have easily gotten rid of Tiffani (iirc), who no one would have missed. Oh well...
  7. Oh, I too meant to post that I had been here recently for weekend dim sum for the 1st time in over a year and found the experience to be much better than I remembered. There were way more people driving carts around the space and there seemed to be high turnover of food, resulting in fresh plates. Even during my previous visits, when the place was packed, this didn't always seem to be the case. Anyway, i was pleasantly surprised by the taste and quality of the food.
  8. I'm afraid that I have to agree with Marty at this point, except substitute chicken for lamb. It was fairly watery and the naan was doghy and tasteless. I also got the Chaat, and even with yogurt sauce, a warm sauce and a chutney (that's 3 sauces if you're counting at home), it was still fairly bland. The samosas were dry and crumbly too, but the potato tikka was actually quite good. Kind of disappointing, but still early in its genesis to dismiss it out of hand, and I would add that as an admirer of Chipotle (that's right!), this ain't no Chipotle!
  9. Had a very nice meal on Friday night. The restaurant sure knows their way around a pig, and we were able to snag the last cut (or so we were told), even though it was 6:30 on a Friday night. Anyway, a good mix of fat and meat with that charred skin that tastes so much like bacon. Need more charred bacon skin! I also enjoyed their Ribollita, which I found to be much thinner than those I've had in Italy, but certainly well executed and not lacking for flavor. There was one fairly significant service error: we were set up for a three course meal (apps, a pasta course, and the main course), but they brought out the pasta and the main at the same time. While this was a total bummer, it didn't ruin our meal or anything, it was just unfortunate. Anyway, no doubt we'll be back.
  10. My last few sandwiches, particularly the Front St. i had yesterday, have been sub-par. The reason is not the ingredients, but instead the total lack of care when making the sandwich. i can understand when the line is out the door that perhaps you lose some of the artistry, but when the place is empty, there's no excuse. Take your time and be thoughtful. Simply throwing all the ingredients inside a roll doesn't make for a good sandwich. That seems to be all they're doing now.
  11. I've read a lot about the wonderful food, and for good reason because our dinner was delicious, but nothing about the female staff...marón are they beautiful! And a big thanks to member Eric OX (sp?), who along with his wife, was kind enough to share his amazing wine. Anyway, good times.
  12. I was here the other night and enjoyed a few beers, as opposed to cocktails. Really interesting beer list. This is a great bar to just grab a couple beers with some friends, fancy (and delicious!) cocktails not necessary.
  13. I too have the Vinturi for red and think it is spectacular and totally worth it.
  14. Had a delicious RW meal here the other night. Not a bad dish was served. The standouts were the rabbit rillettes, the halibut, and the pork loin. In fact, the latter was perhaps the best pork dish I’ve ever eaten, tasting just like a well seasoned/cooked steak. Of course, I’m Jewish, so what do I know from pork? ;P I shouldn’t forget to mention the perfectly crafted Manhattan, also one of the best I’ve ever had. Lastly, I noticed they have a lounge-area special that is (iirc) 2 courses and 2 glasses of wine for $35, which is a great deal if you look at the a la carte pricing. Given the quality of the meal, I'm surprised this place doesn't get more action.
  15. As exciting, tasty, complicated, delicate, intricate, expensive, etc. as this new venture is being made out to be (and I'm sure will be), I'm curious as to how it will be done/managed/juggled as the "first of several restaurants" and/or "followed by a variety of projects." I guess much of it will have to do with the timing of these additional ventures. Perhaps (likely!) this is an unfair/uninformed comment (On this board? Surely not!), so feel free to disregard, delete, or send nasty PMs
  16. I read that article earlier this week and was similarly disturbed. I can't decide between no longer eating fish, and eating all the fish i can find before it's all gone. I guess the shrimp dinner I'm eating tonight indicates to which side i'm leaning toward
  17. Got some take out the other night. Ordered the Penne with Broccoli Rabe and Spicy Sausages and the Chicken Saltimbocca with Prosciutto, Fontina Cheese, Roasted Potatoes and Escarole. Unfortunately, we were given the Chicken Marsala with Mushrooms, Roasted Potatoes and Fontina Cheese instead (sigh). Both dishes were just meh. There was some good flavor hiding there but it was really muted and thus tasted mostly bland. They did have a delicious Caesar salad dressing! anyway, the sandwiches sound and look delicious, so i'll be back to give those a try.
  18. Really boring. I hope (and expect) that the actual competition part of the show will have some excitement. Unfortunately, it looks like there'll be at least 1 more episode of this kind. Moreover, they need to stop playing up the angle about winning the title of Master Chef, which is totally meaningless (read: stupid), and instead focus on the fact that these people have a chance to win 250K, which is serious reality/game show money.
  19. Great food, terrible service. We were ignored for the first 15 minutes, then it took 25 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and 30 mins for the bread. Moreover, we ordered fries to go with our mains and they came out as an appetizer instead. Very disappointning. The food itself was delicious, however. The fries were cooked perfectly, and the aioli was one of the best I've ever had. The pork belly was cooked nicely as well, with crispy strips of skin adding a nice smoky bacon flavor. My wife's flank steak was cooked as ordered and well seasoned. I'd return, just hope for a different server.
