  1. If you spend $50 at Hanaro Food (Asian supermarket in same shopping center; where I buy parts for chicken stock), you can get SpaWorld admission (usually $35) for $10.
  2. My worry is, how are you going to get folks to wend their way back into Fairview Park for a casual restaurant? Is there going to be a parking lot, or will it still be 100% valet? A casual place thrives on folks dropping by to the bar, coming by "just 'cos it's Tuesday," etc. I worry that their fixed (or required per-patron) costs are too high to support a casual place unless they get a monopoly on catering to the office buildings surrounding.
  3. Ozersky? Watch for the Cheftestants to cook for his birthday party next season and he'll clam up quick.
  4. Methinks Mr. Gago doth protest too much. Corks can fail due to minute fluctuations as well as major ones.
  5. Guys, it's good. It's really, really good. Jill Tyler (ex-Proof, amongst other places) and Kat Bangs (sommeliere sensational) worked the floor and dispensed all manner of useful potables, along with Johnny's wife Anne and a couple other folks. The food comes quickly, and you'll have multiple dishes in front of you at a time, able to mix and match (the puddle of dressing on the cucumber salad is an excellent dipping sauce for the laab and the sausage, for example). If you touch your utensils, you're doing it wrong. Use the herbs, use the sticky rice, use your fingers. They have plenty of napkins for you. Not cheap, but good value given the precision of the cooking and the well-curated selection of beverages. Also NB that there is a counter (10 seats? 8 seats? I forgot to count), so it is single-diner friendly.
  6. Video here: http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Economy/made-america-bourbon-boom-heartland/story?id=14896867#.TrkM7PS5MbI
  7. Those of you not on the Twitter: news of Churchkey's theme tap nights are reason enough to join.
  8. If the "Zwet.be" sour Baltic porter is still on, grab some of that. One of the best beers I've had all year.
  9. Yeah, no TV at the Passenger, and Sundays are usually pretty chill.
  10. 1 hour earlier, usually more food, and access to an afterparty, though the afterparty tends not to be much of a secret.
  11. It's easy enough to kill two birds. Do (or suggest they do) a late-afternoon sherry/cocktail/cider and snack at Jaleo (they stay open through the day) and then go to Corduroy.
  12. Gitane is excellent. Very good sherry cocktails at the bar as well.
  13. Your WFM meat guy can order Bell&Evans necks and backs by the case. Last time I did it, he charged me $36/case (40lbs, necks or backs).
  14. This was the space that was Ben's Whole Hog Barbecue, then an excellent Michoacan place, then a short-lived Korean place (I may have those last two backwards), and has been empty for at least two years. The pits are built into the building, and they're the real deal. Ben's was often highly regarded in its day. That said, most folks who live in the area know this road as the one they sit on forever at the start of their commute. These guys are likely going to need a healthy catering business to make it.
  15. Trestle on Tenth serves continuously. Bistro-y, smashing wine list. 10th Ave and W 24th St.
  16. The same time Euros did. It does make me wonder who is buying it all, particularly the soft-ripening ones.
  17. I imagine Greg Engert at Churchkey/Birch and Barley might like to acquire such a collection.
  18. Convection roasting, absolutely. Make sure your meat is covered in oil for optimum heat transfer.
  19. I'll echo the last two sentiments...I thought the bun was VERY SLIGHTLY too large, but it was excellent. Onion rings (thick style), not as good and needed salt out of the fryer.
