Had brunch twice recently. They have tables set up on the street with cement barriers to keep you safe and giant umbrellas to shield you from ultraviolet rays. The tables are also distanced. We always get the chicken liver pate, the bratwurst, and the weisswurst. The kids really like the chicken liver smeared on their homemade bread. They also prefer the weiss over the brat. I think everything's pretty good, washed down with some cold brewskis.

Gone. Replaced by Amigo Mio, a rather generic looking Tex/Mex joint. -

I’ve had the chicken before. I don’t think it’s (炸子鸡) and I don’t recall it being particularly good.- 76 replies

What is the current situation at Ogawa? Their website says they're only offering prix fixe, starting at $195. That's pretty posh.

Dining at Eden Center (1984-)
Ericandblueboy replied to ema's topic in Washington DC Restaurants and Dining
Carman pimps Eden Center in Wapo. However, I don't agree that the duck at Cho Eden is "Vietnamese roast duck." It's a standard Cantonese roast duck. They also make other Cantonese "BBQ."- 76 replies

Booked a family room for June. I think the kids will enjoy the sleeper car experience but we'll drive home, stopping in Savannah, Charleston, and maybe somewhere else on the way home. I'll be fully vaccinated but I think it's safer to have our own room, rather than flying.

Traditional dim sum is a Cantonese thing. Potstickers are northern Chinese. While you may now find potstickers at dim sum joints, they’re not really traditional dim sum.

By Lauren Lumpkin. I thought Sellers was concerned that her black students were not performing as well as others, not that she gave black students bad grades because she's racist. But the school, the Black Law Students Association, and the article suggest that it's Sellers' fault that the black students don't score as well as the others, implying that she gives biased grades. However, my understanding is that the tests are graded anonymously. Link for those with Wapo subscription and want to read the comments.

Nina May has lots of outdoor seating. There's a mostly enclosed upstairs patio, there's a mostly enclosed downstairs patio, there's a shed-like structure with partition and tableside heaters on the street, and a few open air tables. We had brunch a couple weeks ago and again today. The highlights were short-rib beef Wellington, cacio e pepe agnolotti, tortilla Española with a hint of smoked salmon, and clams with XO sauce. As a parting gift (for dining there semi-regularly), they gave us a piece of carrot cake. warm roasted oyster mushroom salad - for the fungus lover short-rib beef Wellington left to right, cacio e pepe agnolotti, clams XO, waffle and pork schnitzel.

So last summer, Makan had a couple of tables on the sidewalk. Now Makan and others have pitched tents on the road. Makan has I think 6 tables in the tent (fairly wind resistant) and gas heaters on the ground. We went for brunch and had (i) chicken sate, (ii) Nasi Ganja (fried chicken, not pot), (iii) Char Kway Teow, and (iv) Roti Banjir. Char Kway Teow, or chow fun in Cantonese, was pretty good. The shrimps were tender and the noodles were flavorful. The Roti, served under dhal, coconut curry, sambal and soft egg, was delicious. The chicken sate was good but nothing exciting. Lastly, the ganja was a little dry, but it came with lots of interesting side items. Definitely worth checking and the prices are very reasonable.

Dining in New York City

Just read on FB (post by Dave Pasternack) that Esca is closed for good. 💩 -
This poster's bitch-fest is so wrong and @Tom Sietsema just enabled her. As a frequent user of Opentable, I know how it works. If you want an outdoor table, you can specify it in your search by checking the box that says "Outdoor" under seating options. And when you make a reservation, you have to select an outdoor table. You cannot make an indoor reservation and just put you want an outdoor table in the comment box. Same with Resy and Tock - each reservation time states specifically if it's dining room or outdoor.

Cuban Sandwiches

People on Northern Virginia Foodies Facebook group (“NVFFB”) love that place. I eventually quit NVFFB because their lavish praise for out of the way and ordinary looking food just pisses me off. I hope you didn't drive out there just for that sandwich.- 88 replies

The reward for tonight’s winners includes dinner at Buca di Beppo. That’s pathetic.

Detroit style pizza is basically Pizza Hut pan with cheese sprinkled to the edge of the pizza. I've always like Pizza Hut pan, so do my kids. Pizza Hut pan is better focaccia than many restaurants.

I see more prof shoppers at Balducci's & Wegmans than Safeway. I guess if you can afford to have someone shop for you, you want nicer products too...

Another reason covid sucks - we don't even get snow days since we're working from home.
