  1. Exactly what she said. I've ordered from him the past 3 years (King and Sablefish) after he posted here and will continue to do so.
  2. Last December I was picking up a kringle at Trader Joe's and the cashier mentioned a Racine native had just been in and purchased 50.
  3. We were at AFI the other day and veered away from our usual stop at The Classics -- I've been meaning to try Jackies. Great veer. The gnudi you must have had came with lamb and a 63 egg; we loved it as well as our other first course Cacio e Pepe, a very simple but excellent preparation of angel hair pasta, cheese and pepper. We could have made an utterly satisfying meal from two orders of each.
  4. Goodies Frozen Custard, previously only in the great-looking restored old ice cream truck, Saturday opened a kiosk on American Way. We went there specifically for it, as I had long planned to chase down the truck but hadn't done it yet. Superb custard, and they've got Sprecher's sodas for floats.
  5. Don, I fear you'll start a new cheddaring viral thing a la planking.
  6. This is such great news. Healthier grilling through beer. http://www.economist.com/news/science-and-technology/21600085-reduce-health-risk-barbecuing-meat-just-add-beer-marriage-made
  7. Definitely go to Ravenous Pig. We (me, wife and son) were there in early January (based on reviews here) and were very, very impressed. We arrived early (4:30), were seated in the bar area and the bartender/manager on duty attended to us with drinks and apps while the wait staff finished their meeting.Truffle pasta special of the day, a huge bone-in ribeye (Tomahawk chop, if I recall) and steak frites were our 3 entrees. All superb. My wife loved the pasta, letting me only have a taste despite that we usually equally share our orders. Tomahawk billed (and priced) as serving 2; we thought leftovers would be good in a steak salad the next day but the three of us did not leave any of it. Service excellent. If ever back in Orlando area, we will return.
  8. I'll be killing 2 hours @ MSP next month, so appreciate the rec. If Dunn's has Kringle, someone will be happy. MSP
  9. Highly recommend dining at the bar. If we're flying back home via DCA for example, we stop for dinner on the way home. The bartender will recommend and help fashion as many courses as we're up for, including wine pairings, etc. Never been disappointed, and the service is always impeccable.
  10. Per Zora's appreciated notice of the sale and recommendation, I bought the Hasty Bake and am initiating it today by smoking a pork butt, with Zora's Spicy SC Mustard Sauce to accompany the resulting pulled pork. Sensing a theme, I may just as well name my new grill "Zora," unless she (or Jonathan) objects. Further apropos, as it just occurred to me that my older sister desperately wanted our parents to name me "Zorro" when I was born, after her favorite TV character at the time. Since Don was responsible in a sense for my grill, as my wife and I first met Zora at the soft open for Rockwellians at Ray's the Steaks, I should name at least a part of the grill after him. How about the ashpan, Don?
  11. Zora, do you like its grates? I love my cast iron grates, and I will measure them to see if they would fit the Hasty Bake (or buy new ones) -- this price is tempting.
  12. If Yelp were to die, where would we get pearls like this? (conclusion of actual review, out of town restaurant): "...the meal ended with an Andes mint for each of us. Yum."
  13. Well, Kerry listened, and located near a Costco, just the one off the Beltway near 202. If people spot it as they go to or from Costco or Wegmans, he'll do fine. I do wonder how often people go grocery shopping and also pick up lunch or dinner on the way home. I like to hunt and gather in separate missions for some reason. Having enjoyed his ribs and brisket early on at his former location, though, I will do both there.
  14. Nice placement of these topics...
  15. My Google machine finds her in Scotland. http://isleofmullhotelfortwo.weebly.com/ http://www.hotelfortwo.co.uk/index.html
  16. In Madison last weekend (sorry, Michigan fans). Hopslam on tap at the student unions and at a local grocery store for $16.99/six-pack.
  17. Bun. Surprisingly good sandwich. If not for recommendations on DR, I would never have ordered it. Now it's my favorite ballpark meal, with frites from the place next door.
  18. No, but the 54-yr-old Mrs. Aykroyd will not be happy that you think she is pushing 80.... (Donna Douglas was Elly May -- easy to be confused by double D's).
  19. For our deck, I'm thinking of trying gadget I read about recently: ThermaCELL insect-repelling lantern. Uses allethrin. They also have portable devices if you're moving around. Amazon, Home Depot, Walmart, Sports Authority, etc.
