  1. Ferhat is amazing, and this is an absolutely amazing dinner. Easily one of the best in the city. Every one of the courses was delicious, and when asked at the end if we had a favorite dish, each of the four of us named something different that we utterly adored. What a great experience.
  2. More like belt and bracers, as I'm always slightly paranoid about email communications with restaurants and their interaction with my/their spam filter, given some past mishaps. :-)
  3. Yeah, I ate here for lunch a couple of days ago and was VERY impressed by the miso ramen. The noodles were wonderfully chewy and tasty, and the broth was rich and delicious; I finished every drop. The corn was also very nicely cooked. I'd say the other toppings, including the chashu, were only okay, but on the whole I'm already comfortable ranking them above Sakuramen and most other non-Toki places in DC. Great to have such a good place so close to my work, as the Farragut area is still pretty fallow. It's a shame that my doctor has just told me to lower my cholesterol, because otherwise this would be a frequent stop. :-)
  4. We ate here awhile ago, so I don't remember exactly what we had, but I thought it was...okay. Fried stuff that mostly tastes like, y'know, fried stuff. I might not be the target market.
  5. Damned if Dean's insalata forte is not consistently one of the very best dishes in town. And Fabian's expanded cocktail list is fan-freaking-tastic and holds its own against anywhere else in the city. Really, really thoughtful, extensive, and delicious.
  6. For some reason I always forget about The Saloon despite it being one of my very favorite places in the city. I need to remedy that ASAP.
  7. Apologies that this review isn't more detailed, but both the short rib and duck entrees are absolutely fantastic. Two of the best dishes I've had in a while.
  8. You should still check out The Saloon sometime. Heck, I need to remember to check out The Saloon far more often than I do.
  9. That is extremely exciting. (And it reminds me that I should probably make a post in the 2 Birds 1 Stone thread about how I really, really want to like that place much more than I do.)
  10. Based on the Wikipedia page, it seems like Sri Lankan cuisine has elements of South Indian (specifically Keralan) cuisine and Malaysian cuisine, but is its own thing altogether. Sounds very tasty.
  11. It reminds me a little of my favorite michelada recipe: 1 oz. lime juice, 1 oz. Cholula, 1 oz. worcestershire sauce, 12 oz. Negra Modelo, ground pepper to taste. It can be a bit intense for those who don't like savory/spicy, though, so I'm sure Fabian and John's creation is much more balanced.
  12. Oh, I've known about the construction and Hogo's limited lifespan for ages. I just wish its absence won't be so keenly felt. It was the kind of neighborhoody cocktail bar (like, say, the Grotto bar at Dino's Grotto) that didn't require reservations and was seldom so packed you could hardly breathe, a lovely place to sit at the bar and enjoy two or six delicious drinks over a couple of hours. As cool as The Passenger or the Shaw trio of Brown joints are, they're usually so crowded that they don't quite fit this bill. And, of course, I have a longstanding love affair with tiki in particular, ever since I stumbled on the dearly departed PKNY in Manhattan a bum of years ago.
