  1. Often times, I'm compelled to order what's on the "specials" menu at a restaurant because I think I may never be able to order it again. But what if I really like it and can never order it again? Such was the case with a recent specialty pizza at Orso. Brussel sprouts, shallots, pancetta (I think; it wasn't listed on the menu), vincotto, smoked provola, and an egg. Smokey, savory, with a hint of sweetness and a perfectly cooked crust, this was easily one of my favorite pies I've had here, or anywhere else for that matter. But now I'm afraid I may never get to taste it again...
  2. The shishitos are definitely delicious, but they're a bit like Russian Roulette for your mouth. Most of them are mild to medium hot, but there's usually a few that are really spicy. You should make sure you have a beer close by when eating these...
  3. I walked by this place yesterday and noticed that they changed their name to "Kao Thai." Didn't get a chance to eat there, but in reading some comments on Yelp, it sounds like they renovated the space, added more seats, and revised the menu a bit.
  4. I just watched this episode last night, and I think Antonia's dish actually did get a lot of praise when they were tasting. IIRC, someone said it was "special" and Tom stated that it brought him back to his childhood. That's the way to any diner's heart. It's like that scene in Ratatouille. I was still a little surprised she won with such a simple dish that I'm pretty sure I can make at home. But not nearly as surprised as the other chefs were. I also noticed that Padma looked a little sad when she said bye to Tre. Maybe she's gonna miss her eye candy...
  5. This is pretty big news that got buried in the "Dining in Bethesda" thread. Just thought it should be highlighted in the appropriate thread (which was not very easy to find). I look forward to trying it once she gets settled in!
  6. Was there a chat this week? Can't seem to find it on the Post's site...
  7. As I mentioned above, I don't think that PS7's "deal" is really a deal at all. It normally costs $77, but Corner Dish was charging $107. So maybe they would've succeeded if they offered actual bargains....
  8. I've used it for the omakase at the sushi bar before with no problem (can't remember if it was Groupon or Living Social). To make a reservation, I just called and specifically asked to be seated at the Sushi Bar with Koji.
  9. To be fair, some local blogs deserve credit as well, since they been hyping this place for about a month now. I personally didn't hear about it until this thread started, but I was surprised to find a number of blog posts dated well before this. They almost always seem to involve an email from someone singing the restaurant's praises (much like in Kliman's chat). If it's the same person sending these emails, then s/he deserves A LOT of credit for spreading the word. That being said, I did get a chance to try the chivito, and it was as amazing as advertised. My gf wanted to try the cuban, but unfortunately, they were out. The cashier recommended we try the falafel. I only tried a couple bites, but I remember it was very good with a nice assortment of toppings. Honestly, I was too enamored with my chivito to focus on anything else...
  10. Wow. I got this during Happy Hour for $5 and thought it was kinda steep then. I can't imagine paying $8 for one -- I assumed you'd get two if you order of the regular menu. That being said, it is a very good Scotch Egg, but now I know to get it only during HH. I've only ever eaten in the bar area here, but all my meals so far have been very good. I've stuck mostly with the "pub fare" and have yet to try any of the "mains" on the Rockville menu. I am especially fond of the burger and shepherd's pie. The potted pork is great too. I just hope they add some more items from the DC location, like the blood pudding...
  11. The Tea Tree dish is one of many that is supposed to be "Served cold," denoted by a white star next to the item number. I didn't notice that star was there until after multiple visits. And I believe it has been mentioned upthread that noodles are not the restaurant's best dishes. The only one I would order here is the Dan Dan Noodle.
  12. It looks like they've changed their name, most likely for the reason mentioned above. For a while, the sign looked like it said "gerenberry" and I always wondered why they didn't fix it. Now I see they have repurposed the lowercase "g". Since the loop isn't closed, it kind of looks like an "s". So they just repositioned it higher and now their name appears to be "Serenberry." I don't really like frozen yogurt, but this would be my favorite in the area if I had to choose one. The gf loves the stuff and I always try one bite at each place, just to check if I still dislike it. It's the same with coleslaw...
  13. Apiary for Scott Bryan's excellent cooking. Kind of surprised it hasn't been mentioned here (or maybe I missed it). The prices are very reasonable considering the level of food and service.
  14. They had a bunch over the weekend at the Rockville store. I missed out on them last year, so this is my first time trying them. I'm also detecting a bit of a coconut in the caramel. I'm not a huge fan of coconut, but these are still delicious...
  15. $25 for $50 coupon for AGAINN (Rockville) on LivingSocial
  16. It may be open tonight. I was there on Monday and overheard the hostess say that they were aiming to open it this week, hopefully before Thanksgiving. As for my meal that night -- the burger wasn't up to its usual standard. I ordered medium rare, and it came out closer to medium (almost medium-well). The bun also seemed more bready than usual, which detracted from the flavor of the beef a bit. On the other hand, the porchetta was excellent. Stuffed with herbs and served with creamy white beans, a perfectly poached egg, and greens. I was glad to have some bread to sop up the leftover sauce.
  17. Thanks, I'll have to check it out. I've only been to that store once, but I remember they had a surprisingly good beer selection.
  18. CornerDish is offering a 7 course, 7 cocktail pairing at PS7's for $107 How is this a deal? Doesn't it normally cost $77?
  19. Seconded. Had this at Proof recently (can't remember if it was bottle or draft). Very nicely balanced pumpkin ale. Is this available in stores in the DC area?
  20. Has this policy changed recently? The menu I got from them a few months ago says that they do not deliver...
  21. Not sure if it's what you had in mind, but I got one of these Zojirushi warm bento boxes and it works great. I believe you can get it order it through Amazon.
