  1. Hearth. I discovered it through this thread and can say that the praise it receives is undoubtedly justified. The owners of Hearth also have a very cozy wine bar nearby, called Terroir. Good small plates and sandwiches and an eclectic wine list.
  2. Speaking as a former server that worked in a restaurant that accepted the Entertainment card, I disliked the card and other coupons mainly because I would often get tipped on the discounted total.
  3. Good deal for Cashion's available today at LivingSocial ($25 for $50 gift certificate).
  4. I went up recently and really enjoyed Tria. Interesting wine list, great beers, and a nice casual atmosphere. We had dinner elsewhere and were unfortunately too full to try any of their food or cheese.
  5. Has this started filming? What happens to the restaurant if he's away for an extended amount of time? I actually have a reservation at Volt next weekend. I made it through OpenTable so I'm assuming it's for the main dining room. But now I'm thinking I might want to do the 7 course tasting menu. Do I have to call to make a reservation in the Chef's Dining Room?
  6. The prices are from their website. I went to the one in Bethesda and I believe the sale started yesterday.
  7. Great deals on Wagyu this week: Ground Beef $4.99/lb Beef Patties $4.99/lb Top Round Steak $9.99/lb Top Sirloin Steak $9.99/lb New York Strip $15.99/lb Boneless Ribeye Steak $15.99/lb Tenderloin Steak $25.99/lb I bought a beautiful NY Strip yesterday but have yet to cook it. I've never actually cooked Wagyu myself. Any suggestions? Should I just cook it the same way I would any other steak?
  8. I haven't been yet, but I saw that there's a new place called "Filipino Market & Cafe" near Pho 75 in Rockville.
  9. Well of course that's always an option. But when I go I was planning to order another entree, an appetizer and dessert. I just didn't want to end up with an obscene amount of leftovers...
  10. I was thinking of stopping by Central for a drink last weekend, but wasn't sure where it was. So I texted "central washington, dc" to Google and got a few results. One said "Central - 1001 Pennsylvania Ave," which I was pretty sure was correct. Another one said "Central Michael [sic] Richard Restaurant - 633 D St." I thought "That can't be right." I checked it out anyway, since I was nearby, and it was the address for Rasika
  11. Price bickering aside, I had an amazing meal at Komi recently. We decided to go with the degustazione. I don't really have much to add that hasn't already been said, so for those interested, here's what we had (this all from memory so I don't quite have all the details, especially for the pastas): Mezze: Sashimi of amberjack with olive oil, salt, and chives in turbot broth Sashimi of black grouper with meyer lemon, fennel, and olives Diver scallop two ways: Carpaccio with a whole grain mustard sauce, topped with a burgundy truffle & Ceviche with red pepper (?) gelee Oyster and sea urchin roe in sea water gelee topped with creme fraiche and russian kale Salmon belly tartare with pine nuts and frozen shiso Caesar salad crouton Grilled octopus and lentil salad Hanger steak tartare and black truffle ice cream The dates, which this time came on the same plate as the foie gras puff, espelette pepper gelee, and goat cheese s'more (there was also some kind of animal cracker this time) For the pasta course we got three stuffed pastas - one with salt roasted lobster in lobster broth topped with jalapenos, one with deviled crab, and one with beef cheeks. For the entree, we got the suckling pig. This might be my death row meal. Cheese course was a robiola bosina with eucalyptus honey and toasted brioche. Desserts: Apple crisp with granny smith granita finished with pomegranites Pumpkin semifredo Greek doughnuts Creme fraiche panna cotta Lollipop was pineapple saffron. This was definitely one of the best meals I've ever had, and as evidence by this post, one of the most memorable. I'm glad I made my reservation well before they got the #1 ranking. I wouldn't be surprised if the price jumps soon...
  12. I was afraid of that. So then that's a pretty ridiculous price hike in a short amount of time. When did they change this? Flipping back a few pages in this thread, to about a year and a half ago, it seems as though you could get the full tasting with wines for a little over $100...
  13. Does the degustazione still include wine pairings? There are a couple recent posts that lead me to think that it doesn't. Plus it's kinda hard for me to believe it would, since it's actually cheaper than the regular dinner + 3 glass pairing...
  14. Actually, Etete might be a great choice. I have a couple celiac friends and have gone to Ethiopian restaurants with them on multiple occasions. Authentic injera is made with teff, which is virtually gluten-free. But some restaurants in the US mix in a little wheat flour, so you'd have to ask to make sure it's 100% teff. Etete was one of the places I went to with my friends and they were fine. Other good places near 9:30 Club are Bar Pilar and Marvin.
  15. I don't think this place was around when I was going to college at UMD. How does it compare to Marathon Deli? That was my go-to place for gyros, and is probably still at the top of my list (albeit a short one at that).
  16. I agree. I've been looking forward to this for a while and was eagerly waiting to see the menu. But I don't understand why it's $75 either. Alot of the items are on the regular menu or similar to them (with the addition of truffles). And if you order the most expensive items for each course on the regular menu ala carte, it doesn't even reach $75...
  17. Corduroy for dinner, then probably a house party. Corduroy has yet to post their menu on the website. The anticipation is killing me...
  18. I hate to spoil the celebration, but it looks like this is only temporary. According to their website, they are relocating...
  19. Some highlights from my trip this past weekend: Terroir - Duck Ham with Hen of the Woods Mushrooms and Taleggio Panini, White Anchovies & Pickled Onions, and a glass of Chateauneuf du Pape (can't remember the winery) Momofuku Ssam - Steamed Buns Joe's Shanghai - Crab and Pork Soup Dumplings. First time I've had these and they lived up to the hype. I will try one of the other places next time to see how they compare. Yakitori Totto - We got pretty much all the chicken parts they had, and all were great. The chicken meatball with quail egg for dipping was so good I reordered it. Kobe Beef Tongue was delicious. Why don't we have one of these places in DC? I hear Sushi Taro does it, but I'm sure it's not the same.
  20. I'll go ahead and third this. This soup is just amazing. It looks so light, but it's really rich in flavor. I also had a very good grilled swordfish with fall vegetables off the cafe menu. Unfortunately, the night I went, the roast chicken was not on the menu (which is what I had intended to get) and they had just run out of burgers. I hope the chicken isn't permanently off the menu...
  21. I'm happy to report that this place lives up to the hype. I went here on Saturday a little after 6pm and had to wait about 15 minutes for a table for 2. I'm glad we got there when we did, because it looked like a long line started forming shortly after we were seated. For the appetizer, we got the Squid Salad. It was pretty good, but unfortunately, at one point I detected a note that reminded me of lemon Pledge. For the entrees, we split the Floating Market Noodle Soup and the Crispy Pork Krapow. My plus one was a little wary about the spice of the soup, so when the waitress asked how spicy we wanted it, we went with medium. It was still pretty damn hot, as I was sweating throughout the meal. Next time I'd like to try it at full strength. I wish this place was walking distance from my house because all I could think about while eating it was how perfect this soup would be on a cold, snowy, winter's day. The pork was amazing. Perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and a nice meat/fat ratio. It was served in a dark brown sauce with crispy holy basil and chilies. You could see a layer of fat floating on top of the sauce (not that I'm complaining). I'd have a hard time not ordering this dish on future visits (of which there will be many). Sorry, arteries! I'm glad this place is getting so much attention because they definitely deserve it. Here's to their continuing success and hope that the quickly increasing volume doesn't affect the quality.
  22. I tried to go here for lunch today, but unfortunately, could not find it. I read on Yelp that the owners were thinking about moving the cart so I drove all around the movie theater, but still no luck. Anyone know exactly where it is? Maybe I just missed it. Now I'm stuck eating cafeteria food.
