  1. I was once invited to a client's Christmas party here. He was a native of Hong Kong. It was a multi-course meal that was very memorable, both because of good company, and good food.

    Founders KBS

Got an email from Downtown Crown that they will have it on tap tomorrow at 4:00 pm. Pints and Crowlers.
  3. Costco (at least the on in Gaithersburg) is selling it by the pound.

I doubt you will find any, and the normal retail for a beer is on the pricey side ($7.99/12 oz) bottle. There were 10 bottles on Saturday night at State Line in Beltsville. They had received 5 cases the day before with people lined up for the release at 5 pm. I would be surprised if there is any left today. This beer flies off the shelf.

Founders KBS has hit the market locally and may be difficult to find a bottle. This is probably more popular to beer geeks than Hopslam and produced in smaller quantities. If you see this on the shelf do not hesitate to take it, and if you see someone else eyeing the last bottle while you are standing next to this person, grab it first. Description from Founders website: "What we’ve got here is an imperial stout brewed with a massive amount of coffee and chocolates, then cave-aged in oak bourbon barrels for an entire year to make sure wonderful bourbon undertones come through in the finish. Makes your taste buds squeal with delight." I am not typically a fan of stouts, but this one is a killer.
  6. Robert Dyer is reporting that they have closed because the lease was not renewed. Although it was not my first or second choice, it was solid and will be missed.
  7. I was at the Costco in Gaithersburg two weeks ago, and several pallets worth of romaine were bad. It can happen.
  8. Your post is very interesting. My close friend owns a bar in Adams Morgan, and he participates in a number of these delivery services. He gets complaints frequently from people that the food isn't good. The bottom line is that he cannot control what happens when the food leaves his restaurant. He also said that it often sits for long periods of time before being picked up and in those instances he makes a new order, but still cannot control when and in what condition it gets to the purchaser.
  9. Tadich Grill claims to be the third oldest continuously operating restaurant in the *country*, dating to 1849.
  10. I have made it well known above how much I dislike this place. Maybe it's reign of terror is coming to an end in Bethesda--credit Robert Dyer. It may also mean the end of Houston's as well.
  11. True that for most a trip to Costco isn't an every week experience. I make a trip weakly (about 10 minutes from my house) and I can walk to Whole Foods in less than 10 minutes. I am not afraid to try something and return it if it sucks!
  12. If you don't like it, return it. They will take it back no questions asked. You don't even need a receipt.
  13. Al Ha'esh, translates to on the fire or on the charcoal. It is a nice space carved out of Kosher Mart, which I believe is now called Motti's. The space was known for generations as Katz's. It has its own separate entrance from the supermarket, and is run as a standalone restaurant, although it looks like the kitchen may be shared with Motti's. I have always said that a restaurant cannot survive solely because it is Kosher, it must also have good food. This space may have figure it out. I went here for lunch expecting some good grilled meats, Israeli salads, and some good bread. I did not leave dis-appointed. We started with an order of falafel, hummus, and babaganoush. They were served with hot pita, which was really really good (has anyone noticed pita quality recently has jumped by a huge margin?). The falafel was perhaps the best I have had outside of Israel. The hummus and and babaganoush were also very very good. For my main, I had grilled sweetbreads, which we were told was pancreas. I had never had the opportunity to sample pancreas so I thought I would give it a try. It was decent, although a small portion. It came a with a choice of side, which I opted for Israeli Salad. My friend went full out and got a skewer of chicken, steak (entrecote) and lamb kebab. Entrees come with unlimited salad and pita. The salads alone were enough for a meal, there were about 4 dishes of tahina, tabbouleh, chickpea salad, a tomato onion salad, and something else I cannot remember. All were very fresh and well seasoned. Prices are decent--at lunch, single skewer of your choice is $14.00, $18 if you want a second one, all coming with salads and pita. I should also note that they have a decent well curated beer selection both on draft and in bottles, with prices which will have your head spin a 360, drafts are $4.50 (including Unibroue from Canada, Goose Island, and Smuttynose and bottles are $5.50 (Bear Republic, Founders, Hatachio (from Japan), North Coast, Weyerbacher). Being a Kosher spot, they are not open on Friday or Saturday night.
  14. They carry at least one or two Mayorga varieties. Haven't bought it in a while, but when I was buying whole bean, I remember it being very good and sold at a very good price.
  15. Or the time my mom dropped the Thanksgiving bird on the floor when taking it out of the oven. I was too young to remember, but evidently, it was not a good scene.
  16. I have walked and driven by Le Palais dozens of times and have always wanted to try it. I guess I should have made an effort sooner. The Lakelands newsletter reports that it has closed and that a new awning was put up with the name "EuPHOria Kitchen". I am kind of bummed. Lots of good Pho around, but not much quality fine dining.
  17. Update on the Bethesda Fine Dining Location, which reports a May opening (credit--Bethesda Magazine)
  18. I am at the point where I am not going out of my way to buy any beer. There was a point in my life where I would follow on twitter when it was delivered at x store, then drive there, or drive all over the place to find a stash. No more. Pretty sure Arrowine sold out of their allotment in under 30 minutes. There is so much variety nowadays, that it just isn't worth it to obsess.
