  1. yep, the home of Founding Farmers. 😂 Still haven't tried it. I'm here a couple days a week, otherwise downtown at Metro Center. Tomorrow that plaza in front of Earl's will not be a fun place.
  2. Looks like Crofton has closed, but Glendale AZ (!) is alive and well. BTW, we had a Prune out here off 606 for a while, but it's long gone too. Think they did reasonably well at least for a while. According to the Prune website they have "Licensed Stores" and "Legacy Stores." Anyone know what that means? The Legacy Stores are listed on the website but there's no link to the menu for those stores.
  3. Bizarre sentence from the story: "The closest locations — Gaithersburg, Md. or Manassas, Va. — are several hours away." [Emphasis added]
  4. "I don’t think Buddy Holly is much of a waiter, maybe we should have sat in Marilyn Monroe’s section." "Which one? There are two Monroes." "No there’s not that is Marilyn Monroe, that is Mamie Van Doren and I don’t see Jayne Mansfield so she must have the night off or something." BTW, Vincent is the brother of Vic Vega (Mr Blonde) from Reservoir Dogs.
  5. Oh I noticed the blueberry scones. Saving them for the beginning of March, after my bootcamp winter challenge is over. 😀
  6. I'm working at the Tysons office today and made it a point to venture up to Stomping Ground for a cuppa. It's a good cuppa and worth the detour from Starbucks. There were already people having lunch at 11:30 and the food looked good (as did the wares at Lady M but those prices -- holy crow!).
  7. Damn those turnip cakes look good. We got dim sum at HKP a few days ago with some NYC relatives and the big flop of the meal was the turnip cakes. These look like another creature entirely.
  8. Definitely in DC, the home of bad restaurant name puns. Ah geez it's already a thing. In Portland of course. http://www.pokemonpdx.com/ And just like DC, there is drama. https://www.oregonlive.com/dining/index.ssf/2018/10/colin_yoshimoto_poke_mon.html But it looks like "Poke Salad Annie" is available.
  9. Pretty arid area for good food. It's been a few years since I made that drive, and both of the BBQ places I've tried north of Durham on 85 have closed. There's a Smithfield's Chicken n Bar-B-Q right off 85 in Henderson. It's an NC chain. Basic Eastern NC cue and fried chicken. Good portions. There are probably some solid local eateries in Henderson.
  10. Just found this great thread. I see a lot of my personal favorites already mentioned. I will review my collection and circle back. By favorites I will mean movies I can watch multiple times.
  11. Damn. Back before we got a Maison Kayser around the corner here in DC, I used to hit the 40th St location when I visited the NY office and always ogled the wares in the window at Lady M a couple doors down the block (this is across from Bryant Park). If those things taste half as good as they look....
  12. Don -- I owe you a massive debt. Thanks to your mention of the findagrave website, I've just gotten details about my double first cousin, once removed, David E. Wells, who was killed in Italy in WW2. In about five seconds I learned more about him than I had known for the past 50 years. He was my dad's favorite cousin. My dad learned of his death while serving in the Pacific. A letter he wrote to his cousin was returned stamped "RETURN TO SENDER -- ADDRESSEE DECEASED." Ah, bureaucracy.
  13. Thanks -- next time I work at my firm's Tysons office I will make a point to go upstairs for my coffee instead of the usual Starbucks. Today I'm downtown and got Cafe Chocolat instead of chain mud.😊 Some days I work Swing's into the rotation too. Looking forward to trying a new coffee spot.
  14. Curiousity got the best of me and I took a look at the menu. The Tavern Menu is actually pretty normal in terms of prices, and there's no Cauliflower Steak on either the Tavern or Steakhouse menu now.
  15. FWIW, whoever owns it now is making some effort to be community-friendly. http://www.walkarlington.com/rosslyn-walking-food-tour-recap/ Bought by this guy in 2004. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A63708-2004Jul20.html. Can't tell if he still owns it or not. And look what still turns up on google! https://www.starchefs.com/RDonna/html/ilradicchio.shtml
  16. Once again I am amazed and astounded that Il Radicchio is still around. Anyone been lately? They still have AYCE pasta. Note that the menu pdf on their website is dated sept 2016.
  17. I keep getting a "too many redirects" error message when I try to view the map.
  18. Thanks for the tip on Firehook. We live near the well-camouflaged mother ship on Flint Lee Road in Chantilly and I go there fairly often but have never tried the bagels. BTW, if you are out there, Chennai Express on Lee Road across from Target/Costco should be a must-try.
