  1. It's not just the fried chicken -- which I like but don't eat as much these days as I wish I could, even though there are a few down in the Rehoboth Beach area, but I get my beach fried chicken fix filled at Jimmy's in Bridgeville, either coming or going -- but also the potato wedges, AKA Western Fries. We are actually getting a RF around the corner, at Tall Cedars Pkwy and Eastgate View Drive, across from the Harris Teeter and next to the still abandoned, partially built hotel. Few of my neighbors are from Baltimore so I am constantly telling them about RF chicken and Westerns. The thousands of kids around here will love it. This is an affluent section of the "richest county in the US" and the opening of a RF is big news. It's right up there with the recent opening of the cheesesteak shop in the BP down Route 50 towards Stone Ridge. (It's run by the guy behind the South Riding Food Truck Fiesta, which should be restarting soon.) Meanwhile the upscale Avonlea development (think One Loudoun or Loudoun Station) can't get off the dime. That's right -- our most recent restaurant opening news is the opening of a cheesesteak shop inside a BP and a Marco's Pizza opening. We suck. At least we have the solid MOCA Asian Bistro in the Harris Teeter plaza.
  2. I hunkered down at home today! Between flying trees and Metro delays, thought better of venturing out! Hopefully your evening will go well.
  3. It's very close --- I take the Silver Line from Wiehle and have been watching the progress. The covers are off the windows and they are holding interviews for staff. I'm more interested in the opening of Sweet Leaf, which the signage says was supposed to happen during "Winter 2017."
  4. Opened today at 1345 F St NW! I picked up a baguette monge ($3.20) and some Viennoiseries (croissants, brioches, etc). The grab n go case looks like a slightly more expensive Pret -- sandwiches, salads, yogurt parfaits, etc.
  5. Sietsema in his chats actually says he refrains from running poor reviews of such suburban places. Oh well. In fact, some of the comments on the review take him to task.
  6. I had a solid meal with a friend at the Bethesda location last year. Now that I look back, the place was pretty dead. Good pizza though! Hope the downtown branch sticks around.
  7. Which Sheetz is your fave? We have one down the street. Very solid. We're also getting a Royal Farms around the corner. WOO-HOO! Fried chicken and western fries ftw!
  8. I actually have the first three seasons on DVD. Bought them after I finished The Fugitive. Haven't even gotten through much of Season 1 yet. Will definitely look forward to that one!
  9. LOL I know quite well. I first came to Baltimore in 1978. Attended my 35th college reunion last April. Quite familiar with the evolution of Hampden (and Remington ).
  10. When I first came to Baltimore lo those many years ago, the only dining advice i got regarding Hampden was, "Do not go into Hampden."
  11. It's the November 2017 Tim Carman Post story, basically reporting that the DC location has been losing millions of dollars because the reporting of the family racism story never allowed the place to gain its footing.
  12. Wow. How could the Eater story not at least note the family situation? Major blunder. It's funny -- just a few days ago I was thinking how Tadich Grill had weathered the storm caused by the family situation and was safely ensconced in the local expense account restaurant rotation.
  13. Thanks Ulrath. I need to simply make a plan to get over there -- early in the day of course. I actually had Mission today since I was in the area and had missed breakfast. I again got the lean brisket, which was quite good, but a little dry as it was in fact quite lean. For flavor I'd go for the fattier brisket. Have not tried their ribs. Maybe Hammerdown can take some of the pressure off the Pit Stop up the road at Gilbert's Corner. I haven't had their cue in a while since the line generally is long and their pace is somewhat leisurely. But still, being able to get bbq this good (Hammerdown or Pit Stop) and then finish your meal with world-class french pastry from Arno's -- that's pretty remarkable.
  14. Now that it's been a year since the new owners took over, would love to hear reports. We got in just under the wire with the prior owners, and had an amazing dinner and breakfast (and overall stay) but of course that is of no help to anyone now. From what I can tell the new regime is fabulous as well. The menus they send out in emails look incredible. Also, anyone got intel on the prior owners' plan to open a new place in LW?
  15. Interesting that they left their entire website up with just the NEYLA IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED banner across the top. Most sites go dark when the restaurant does.
  16. Thanks for the good report. Have you tried the brisket at Mission BBQ in Greenbriar? The lean is my go-to (incredible protein bomb). Definitely need to try Hammerdown too. I'm hoping the increased competition gives Willard's some impetus to up their game.
