  1. I've been enjoying Vigilante coffee pourovers at the Kensington Farmer's Market (almost) every Saturday. Love their stuff. They're also the bean provider for the folks at Kensington's Sub*Urban Trading Co. Nice to have some of the delicious coffee from the city in the uncool burbs.
  2. A couple notes from the Starbucks Hell/coffee shop desert that is Montgomery County... cheezepowder - thanks for the link to Carman's piece on Kaldi's. I'm going to check them out. Kensington might be getting an alternative to the Safeway Starbucks. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Java-Nation-Inc/482013565218321 Place has been under construction for a looooong time. Who knows what it will eventually be like. If anything. Wheaton Plaza/Westfield Whatever has a Mayorga by the Costco. It's more of a stand (like their airport shops) than a place to sit down a relax so I don't think it should really make the map, but it's a decent option in a barren land. Beware Costco insanity. Edit: Another note, noticed this place in in downtown Rockville - CremCaffe https://www.facebook.com/CremCaffe?rf=234299319995395. Looks like a nice European/Middle East style espresso cafe, I might check it out. By the looks of the cups they use Bristot espresso beans.
  3. Has anyone tried the new La Mano in Takoma Park? http://lamanocoffee.com/ They are open
  4. Yikes - watch Chef Dean smash his burgers dry in this trailer - http://video.pbs.org/viralplayer/2365086578/ (1:30 mark and on)
  5. It's clearly in Silver Spring (north of both Carroll and Piney Branch). If anything, it's closer to the boundary of what's considered Takoma Park (MD) than Langley Park - since it's also west of University (though right on the street). Langley Park is exclusively in Prince George's County.
  6. Seems like it was Lion Brewery, Wilkes-Barre, PA http://lionbrewery.com/home/contract-brewing/home/
  7. Hook & Ladder never really was much of a business anyway. Just a couple guys who had some generic beers contract brewed for them in Utica or PA or somewhere. They were a local beer in name only. Maybe they had some aspirations of becoming an actual local production brewer but never really came close. As for the disaster that is the Fire Station, they have the occassional regional beer - mostly stuff from Baltimore like Heavy Seas. For awhile I think they were selling this stuff from White Marsh, MD as kind of a house brand - http://www.redbrickstation.com/beers.html For some reason my parents continue to eat there. I've had exponentially better experiences at highway exit Ruby Tuesdays.
  8. Big Board is a nice neighborhood bar and burger joint. Boundary Stone is a notable dinner spot. I think Western H is actually doing pretty well. Sounds like getting rid of the TruOrleans management team is a plus.
  9. Yep - http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/going-out-guide/wp/2013/08/27/adam-bernbachs-2-birds-1-stone-opens-below-doi-moi/
  10. a} Baby Wale is now open b} This may be my favorite comment in the history of the internet -- http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/youngandhungry/2013/08/29/baby-wale-now-open-near-convention-center/#comment-128843.
  11. They're expanding into the District... Mad Fox Brewing Company Opening Taproom in Glover Park
  12. Do they use Blue Crab for the Chili Crab at the NYC location? Or can you get Mud Crabs in the US?
  13. And unlike the period of time from, say, 1800-2010 -- the Hill isn't starving for more restaurants. There's a gap there because he owns all the restaurants. Well played, Spike. Well played.
  14. Great, great, great, great, great news! Did I mention "great?" This is what I have been hoping to see from them since they opened. A pint of local/regional cask ale is actually truer to the British pub ethos than a souring nitro Boddingtons. They've switched over to DC Brau's Hot Pepper Pandemic Porter, which sounds terrible but doesn't dampen my enthusiasm.
  15. With a bigger bar at Oyamel now, those $2 happy hour tacos might be a more regular thing for me (they're very small, but that's a reasonable price). Though your point absolutely stands.
  16. A website that shall remain linkless (rhymes with 'welp') lists their hours as: Mon-Thu, Sun 5 pm - 1:30 am Fri-Sat 5 pm - 2:30 am They've been open since May 4th.
