When Spring finally gets here, I'd go for a nice walk down G to 4th then head south to Yards Park. Chill out there and then get a drink at The Arsenal/Bluejacket before going back up to Barracks Row. Or if the wait really is 3 to 4 hours, attend an entire Nats game!

Heard from a former regular, who walked by last weekend, that it was dark on a Friday evening with a closed sign on the door. The place had next to no business for months and months. Was surprised it stayed open this long.

Menus (via their Facebook Page). Love the draft list - seems to be up there with Freddy's as best in Bethesda. I would have gone Pazole/Sculpin and Mole/Old Chub, Don, but would not refuse your pairing Dinner Menu Drinks Menu --- And some downloads from their website as of June, 2014: Gringos&MariachisDinner.pdf Gringos&MariachisDrinks.pdf

This is just my opinion, not based on anything I've actually heard or seen from NRG... but I think that they wanted this to be a lot more than a neighborhood/pre-game spot. They want it to be a national beer destination -- in line with Churchkey (which is) but with products of their own making. I think they want the beer they produce to be craved by beer geeks all over the world -- sold to them when they visit and eventually in bombers. Much like Dogfish (though with much, much smaller distribution goals). DFH's brewery (Milton) and pub (Rehoboth) are destinations for people outside Delaware - though their business increases seasonally like Bluejacket's will in the long run. Bluejacket has a long way to go to even get close to that level of respect. Though one thing that seems to be in line right now is that people hate the food at Dogfish Rehoboth too

Wow. I know brewers (like chefs and cooks) do move from job to job with some frequency, but this is surprising. Interesting phase that NRG seem to be going through.

Toscana Cafe 2nd and F NE I like their Milanese (chicken cutlet) sandwich, Italian cold cut and the Brisket. All served on focaccia.

I think the "temporarily" refers to Donna, who is going back to Al Dente after helping to get the kitchen at Alba off the ground.

I've dined at Toki 5 times over the past couple years. I've never waited more than 10 minutes before being seated. 1) they take reservations between 5pm-6pm 2) if you're able to get there at 5pm you can walk in and get a stool Do I go there at 8pm on a Friday with 9 of my closest friends? Of course not. (It's also not a place to linger with friends). But the wait is not universally hours long. Just requires a little planning in advance, like any great restaurant.

Maybe just getting rid of the supply. Wonder what will become of Taylor Charles -- maybe the two shops a few blocks from each other was not really what the market was interested in on H (though, of course, the menu choices were different). Or with the recently paired down menu at Taylor Gourmet, maybe they can add cheesesteaks to the menu there? I went to Taylor Charles a few times. I enjoyed the cheesesteak on my first visit. The next couple times I found the sandwiches way too salty -- and I came expecting sodium bombs but these were like salt licks on a roll.

The problem then is that they would essentially be a donut and beer shop. Which is a little odd, though I'm not judging. And an NRG establishment (or anyone for that matter) ain't giving up on alcohol because that's the profit.

Finally made it down last night and had a really good time. Snagged the last remaining bar stool at 4pm (every bar area table spot gone by 4:30). I never sit at bar tables at Churchkey because the servers are usually in the weeds running so many different beers. Not the same experience you get when you have 3 or 4 bartenders in front of you who can easily pour you a fresh beer- so I automatically applied that to The Arsenal sight unseen. And the bartenders did a great job. Not as seasoned as the ones found at Churchkey, clearly NRG had to put out a big casting call for Bluejacket and the new guys are learning on the go. But they were super friendly and attentive. Not a single service gripe. Beers were very good, especially the New Zealot American Pale Ale (cask) and The Panther Schwartzbier. Got the Hammertime charcuterie board, which is about 5 slices of Virginia ham with toasted bread, mustard, cornichons, etc. Nice, nothing spectacular about the ham. Wings were good. Some may not like the breadiness of them, but I don't mind. Think Hooters wings with much better poultry and frying. Tater Tots are surprisingly revised from Churchkey, square and less plump. Also fewer to the order IIRC - but still delicious. We got out of there at around $50 a person (4) with plenty of full beers, tasters and three appetizers.

Large is 20" and I haven't seen the DC menu, but their site says a 20" cheesesteak at the Bethany location is $14.25. I vaguely remember getting that exact sub down there to split with Mrs. 29. I also vaguely remember enjoying it

Yeah, as long as Greg is curating the beer menus, I'll still be there (here and everywhere). They had 4 casks of Adnams ale in from England at CK/B&B the other day. If you're a fan of pure British cask ales, that's mic dropping stuff. -
