  1. So where is Landrum? He's gone from a complete and total presence to a complete and total absence. I miss the obscure literary references (even more so since Stephen Banker died), the completely off-the-cuff conversations and the quick wit.
  2. If you call One Block West before you go and ask for a 4 or 5 course tasting menu, you will be amazed by the food. Everything is bought the morning of your reservation and fresh. Four of us had a tasting menu there and what was supposed to be 4 courses turned out to be six or seven courses and everyone was extraordinary. The wine pairings not only complemented the food but also stood alone as a course itself. A truly excellent dinner.
  3. I certainly hope they're not going to open another "way south of Little-Italy" red tablecloth restaurant. Every time something like this happens, it reminds me of those teenage crushes we used to experience (some of us a lot longer time ago than others ). That initial rush of hopes, agony, expectation, and that breathless anticipation. Then the getting to know you stage... and then...the denoument...when reality rears it's ugly head and you start seeing the bad side....one can only hope that THIS TIME, maybe they'll get it right.
  4. Sorry to hear that, Dean. And people wonder why there are lines and price increases in restaurants. Both problems caused by people who don't show up.
  5. I'd really like to check this place out if I only knew where they might be located. Their web page has absolutely no information on location. Maybe downtown San Diego?
  6. The new one that opened in Annandale (behind To Sok Jip) seems to be frying their chicken the way I remember. Crunchy, not greasy.
  7. I used to be a somewhat irregular "regular" here. After a while, the menu got to be boringly repetitious but the food is decently passable and the servings are large and the staff is pleasant. Just don't go on Friday or Saturday night when it seems that every young family in McLean and their 2.5 children are there.
  8. Less Korean competition in Eden Center. Would you rather be the only Korean restaurant among a lot of Vietnamese restaurants or just another Korean restaurant in a town full of them?
  9. When it originally opened, it was called Kyoto and was a "Japanese" sushi restaurant. We ate there right after it opened (more than 15 years ago so that would fit with the tax records), and it was okay but not memorable. Since then, it's changed hands so many times that it has more fingerprints on it than the FBI has on file.
  10. On the menu, it's stated that "truffled fries, garlic fries, fries with Old Bay" are an additional $1. If the menu said with Garlic fries, you shouldn't have been charged that additional $1. Website price differences? Yeah, well, I use the internet menus more for a guide of what kind of food to expect, not a price guide. Very few restaurants keep their pricing up to date on the web. Something about trying to run a restaurant getting in the way.
