sstamour
So I'm unexpectedly headed down to DC for dinner, and have no plans at the moment. Essentially I'm looking for a place to have a nice dinner, some wine or cocktails. Bar or dining room seating is fine. I'm looking at Firefly or Corduroy (though am trying to make plans to do the tasting menu there soon, not tonight) as potential ideas, are those ones that would fit the bill? Would you recommend sitting at the bar or in the dining room? Other suggestions? Thanks for any help. Normally I don't make quite this last minute of plans! Eating at the bar at Corduroy is doable, but Firefly can be a bit cramped for a relaxing meal. A good spot to sit at the bar and enjoy some pasta would be Tosca. At least that's what I feel like at the moment.

sstamour
We ended up at Firefly last night...had a great time and was very pleased with the restaurant, Chef Wabeck, and all the staff that took care of us (Rachel, David, and James). Definitely a place we'll be going back to. I'll post my more detailed thoughts in the restaurant thread. Don, feel free to take care of this however you'd like. JLK
Happy birthday, "shnook!" Mondays tend to be good at the cafe. The back room is closed so the cafe menu is often somewhat expanded.

Jacques Gastreaux
A friend of mine booked 2 slots at the Birds & Burgnudyy event tomorrow evening at Bistro Francais in G'town, thinking that I would be able to go with him. I have to be out of town and can't make it. Is anyone interested in attending? If so, please send me a PM. Details are attached. jparrott
Anyone coming to Sugar&Champagne tonight at the Ritz? It's a benefit for the Washington Humane Society. $75, and you can buy at the door. I'll be pouring our dessert wines (and maybe a few dry ones too, just for fun!) MBK
Anyone have recommendations for a mellow dinner on Sunday night? I'm thinking something like the cafe at Palena (not open on Sundays)... any DC neighborhood except Penn Quarter, no sushi, moderate price. Right now I'm thinking Hank's Oyster Bar, or Dino. But I'd be open to other suggestions... Thanks in advance!

Even though I'm a big guy, I normally don't have a big problem with restaurants being too tight. But I felt awfully clostrophobic at Hank's. crackers
Starfish has offered to close the Notti Bianche bar for us during happy hour tomorrow if enough of us express an interest. He also hinted that there may be some enticing “legacy libations” for us to try. Closed or open bar, I will be there. And the bar area also seats 11, for anyone who may want to stay for dinner – the entire dinner menu is available. Interested? crackers
Starfish has kindly closed the bar for us tomorrow night. He did mention that the bar is small - it can accommodate about 15 of us at any given time. Not to mention the bartender. Given the staggered comings and goings, this should work out ok. cucas87
I'm sad to say I won't be able to make it tonight so if anyone is worried the bar area is a little small for the crowd, you can stake out my space. That said, I should warn you, I'm barely 5 feet tall, so I may not be leaving you too much room. Hope it's wonderful.
