You guys are nuts.  Drinking is a norm. Not an event!

Thank you Starfish, and our bartender (whose name I unfortunately never got) and the rest of the staff at Notti Bianche for calmly welcoming over two dozen of us (plus babies) when we arrived for happy hour on a Friday evening. (We were – ahem- a *tad* over the capacity limit.) Good times.

the wednesday through saturday bartender is thom dodge and we are very happy to have him on board.

it was very nice to put faces to screen names for so many people, and to see old friends as well. we had a blast hosting the happy hour. as some of you know, all of the discounted wines were courtesy of the inventory inherited from nectar. the nectar gang had great palettes and a great selection of wines. unfortunately much of it is incompatible with our current concept.

paul, aka crescentfresh, suggested that he would volunteer for the difficult task of helping to consume it. thinking that there might be one or two more people out there willing to accept this mission, we have declared the last friday of every month "legacy libations night" where wines will be offered at pretty steep discounts in the bar. for now it will be open to the public, however, should enough rockwellians wish to come, we will happily close down the bar for the dr.com crowd.

rocks - i have cross posted this in the notti bianche thread, please feel free to delete which ever one is most appropriate.

Danny,

Wanted to thank you for a great dinner and a great pairing of wines. NB has now been added to our list of "must" restaurants. I've been bragging about the food to everyone I know all day.

Well it is Friday, anybody thinking about HH?  Besides the standard duo of FF and Corduroy anyone interested in checking out a new place?

I am going to haul myself over to Schneiders to check out a report on a special offer for Armagnac after work this afternoon. Nearby is a place called the Union Pub where a buddy is the head bartender and I plan to go by there and pay my respects. Afterwards.... Sonoma perhaps...

You'll need it after sorting thru all the PM's! If close by enough, I may be able to escape for a quick drink, but there's nothing "new" near me. Although...I've never been to Circle Bistro, so that would be "new" to me, and I don't recall that DR's have been there recently....

A bunch of us met at Circle Bistro last month. I for one would be willing to go again.

I need no excuse for a couple of good drinks: I am leading a Brownie meeting until 5, then Mr Shorter is having a few geeks, excuse me, friends, over to play a new board game tonight.

Go to Circle Bistro and get the steelhead trout.  It's so good you won't believe it.  Ask Brendan or Barry to show you the fish.

Do you really think that they want to parade us through the kitchen during service? How are they preparing it?

Poached in olive oil. Winter vegetables. Just get it. Trust me. Brendan will bring the fish out to the lounge if you knows you're coming and parade it around.

Hey newbies!

Go join them!

Just look for the people with the most plates on the table. They don't bite unless you get too near their food.

It's a public location, so you can also run away if they scare you. I usually pretend to go to the bathroom then flee screaming out the back door.

So that is what happens to you!

Yes, come join us! If for nothing else, potentially seeing Brendan parading fish through the lounge will be worth it!

Can't make it tonight, either.  Would SOMEBODY please order that salad with the mushrooms, lardons, and poached egg and report back?

What is there to report? The salad is excellent (I believe posted about in the CB thread) and should be ordered. If it was not so packed we probably would have stayed for dinner where I would have started with this dish. Must go back...

And there was no way that Brendan was going to be carting a fish through the lounge last night either!

Alas poor steelhead I knew him well. Unfortunately the insanity of the lounge and the dining room, plus a seated dinner for seventy precluded me form doing any parading(not to mention I had fabricated the latest steelhead delivery). Sorry I couldn't bop out of the kitchen, I'll try and make it next time. Also if y'all are planning to come for a HH call ahead and talk to Jane the bartender or Rodolfo the GM they can set aside the communal table if need be. ciao!

last minute decision to run errands in Alexandria means I'll be hitting Eve shortly before noon for lunch.  If anyone wants to join me... I'm wearing gray and black and will be reading Fine Gardening .  Ciao!

Planning to do that tomorrow--leaving work early to run final pre-Hawaii errands.

Tonight--Palena before a board meeting...

Don't tease, what are some of the big boppers you are opening? Any Motolo, Clarendon Hills, Octavius (since you seem to be featuring Aussie wines)?

I don't sell any Australian wines.

We are pouring:

Monterosso SB 2005 (lots of fruit, lots of mineral)

Hartenberg Chardonnay 2003 (wooded, no malo)

Hartenberg Riesling 2004 (your basic Beerenauslese halbtrocken)

Morgenster Lourens River Valley 2001 (co-made by Pierre Lurton)

Vriesenhof Kallista 2001 (another merlot-cab-cab franc beauty)

Avondale Syrah Les Pleurs 2002 (blockbuster but still elegant and floral)
