  1. Ah, according to its website it takes them for groups of five to eight
  2. Had a great Restaurant Week lunch here today. One of the better lunch menus for Restaurant Week, as both my companion and I left stuffed with three delicio courses for $22.
  3. Just went here for lunch and enjoyed it. My gf and I split the sampler ($22 for two bagels, five kinds of fish in decent amounts, two schmear, tomato, cucumber, capers and onions). The space was cleaner and chicer (in a good way) than I expec. The bagel could have been better but the fish was really great. More importantly, the bartender serving us was attentive, knowledgeable and a nice guy. That goes a long way.
  4. The beet salad dslee discuses above is absolutely great. Super fresh, bold flavors (arugala, pomegranate seeds, beets, etc) and quite filling (this coming from someone who can put away some food). Highly recommend.
  5. Made the mistake of going again for lunch. Got the Kingston. Pulled chicken was flavorless, slaw on it was pretty good but not nearly as spicy as it used to be, bread legitimately tasted freezer-burnt.
  6. Went here last Friday. Got an 8:45 reservation at the bar, and went with my friend. Much has been written about the food already, so I'll just say most of the bites were stupendous, while some were only just very good. I was disappointed we didn't get the beef rib mole, but that's what happens with a changing menu. I'm writing to give a little tip. My friend and I each paid $150 without the drinks pairing. He doesn't drink, but upon arrival I had two mini welcome cocktails, then ordered a great tequila-based cocktail, we each had a really interesting and well-made non-alcoholic cocktail, he had two cappuccinos, I had one (the cappuccinos, by the way, were more like lattes (not much foam), but the coffee was INCREDIBLY flavorful, downright delicious). At the end of the meal, we received our bill for the drinks...which included only my one cocktail ($14, tax and tip included...no space to add additional tip). It was quite generous of them to throw everything else in for free and I suspect it wasn't a one-time move by a kind bartender. Makes the $150 that much more palatable.
  7. i went to pho 75 in rosslyn with my girlfriend 3-4 months ago after hearing how great it was. perhaps we got a bad batch but it was almost entirely devoid of flavor, the way low-fat oreos taste compared to regular ones. we haven't gone back.
  8. Went here last night around 9 as kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing. Place was busy but not packed, though all the tables at the massive and nice outdoor patio were full. I wonder if they're going to keep tables there on Fridays and Saturdays or whether they will turn it into standing room. I suspect the former, but just a guess. We tried two of the collaboration ciders: one was quite dry (almost sour), one was more balanced. We enjoyed them both, but are hardly cider connoisseurs. We also had three pixtos, two of which are laid out at the bar for you to look at. The manzanilla olive, guindilla pepper, and anchovy skewer was delightfully salty, but significantly less memorable than Estadio's version. The ESCALIVADA MONTADITO (roasted marinated eggplant, sweet baby pepper, anchovy) on a small piece of toast was slightly better. Best of the three was the special: fried calamari with some aoili on grilled bread. The combination of the charred bread, sweet aoili and salty/crispy calamari was so good we got another. The $125 dinner for two sounds like a pretty good deal as those things go: the equivalent of 3 glasses of cider each, salt cod fritters, rockfish, then the usually-$65 bone-in ribeye. The menu had some items and terms I hadn't heard of, but i failed to ask them to explain, so it's not a knock on them. In fact, the service was quite attentive and friendly throughout.
  9. Durant is a better defender than Barnes. The unique issue these three players cause for teams is nearly unlimited range. You have to guard them 25 feet out, which means lanes will be WIDE open ... there's just no way around it. Add to that that Durant or Curry can be on the court at all times and the fact that this team got to game 7 with a hurt Iggy, bogut and Steph and this is going to be scary. I just hope it's competitive. Should be very interesting to watch either way.
  10. Live by the jumpshot die by the jumpshot doesn't apply when they are great shooters and wide-open every time, as they will be here. Zach Lowe put it best: imagine Durant taking all those wide open threes Harrison Barnes clanked this finals. They need some size to fill out down low, but they'll crush next season barring injuries.
  11. Clayboys in Bethesda is so much better than any I've ever tried that it ruined others. https://www.yelp.com/biz/clayboys-shaved-ice-bethesda
  12. Had a very good meal at bad saint last night. My gf got there at 530 and we sat down at 715 after getting the text. Obviously the space is cramped, but that wasn't a surprise. Food is bold and flavorful, reminiscent of Thai. I was really impressed by the rye-based cocktail my girlfriend had. I can't access their menu right now to give detailed description of dishes, but the pyanggang manok (pictured in above post--half chicken, very spicy and flavorful) and banana hearts dishes were probably my favorites. Octopus was my least favorite--still good, just not exceptional. Excited to go back sometime. Edit: I should have emphasized more how awkward the seating is. We sat at a narrow bar in the back, facing a mirror 2 feet away, which is likely there to make the face seem bigger, but it felt strange having your reflection so close. The seats at the front facing the street and facing the kitchen are better, but I think it's just luck of the draw.
  13. My girlfriend and I went here last night for my birthday. We had a great meal. We had an 8:15 reservation and chose to sit at the crudo bar to watch the food being prepared and interact with the chefs. Chef Zentner said it was their slowest night so far--during our two hour meal, only one other table was occupied, so it made for quite a private (but too quiet) atmosphere. They now offer an $85 tasting menu in addition to the $45 and $115 ones, but we decided to basically just order one of every seafood item, plus the artichokes. The vast majority of the dishes were fantastic, including the snapper that Sietsema raved about (we ordered a second), the tuna poke, the scallops, the hammachi, and giant (!) shrimp carpaccio on lardo. The only two dishes I didn't love were the octopus (needed a kick of either more citrus or spice) and the oysters (good, but pretty standard). For such fresh and expensive ingredients, we thought portion size and prices were both quite fair. Drinks were good, too, if a bit more expensive than they should have been. Given the lack of crowd, we got to speak at length with Chef Zentner, who is a nice (though not naturally bubbly) guy. He just moved here from Boston and said that now Conosci has had a few weeks to get its feet under itself, it is going to start getting more experimental (he even let us try some delicious fermented hot peppers he was playing with). I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
  14. I don't much like the drinks at the kinship bar. Id recommend the Dabney for good cocktails in a more relaxed environment
  15. I just had the above pita and can confirm it is delicious. It's not on the menu yet, but they're calling it the Chickpea. The flavors worked well together and, unlike other items I've had there, it didn't leave me a little hungry after (to be fair, I definitely have a larger appetite than most). The tahini is well flavored and almost tasted fishy, which to me is a good thing. The only thing I would suggest is perhaps add a bit of spiciness to balance out the sourness of the lemon. $10.75 is a bit on the expensive side for something without meat, but it's not outrageous.
  16. I've had them at dino's (sauteed with marinara sauce), convivial (fried as a sandwich during brunch) and dabney (sauteed (i think?) with ramps and some other goodness). I enjoyed them all...though I think convivial had the biggest/juiciest ones. Eater DC Soft-Shell Crab Guide
  17. I bet on the warriors before the season to repeat but that game 6 is going to be tough. How about that run without klay or steph on the floor? Spacing seems much better
  18. "He's playing at 70 percent, at best," a source close to Curry told The Vertical. I wonder if this is true. Curry has clearly not been himself and has missed lots of shots he usually hits. But people forget he did that in last year's finals too. What interests me is the fact that he can't get by Ibaka or Adams isolated on the perimeter and that he's missing so many layups, both of which suggest he isn't as explosive as he usually is and is in some amount of pain. I'm also curious to know how much of an effect guarding RWB for 40 minutes is having on him. He's playing him relatively well (especially last night), but it may not be worth it. Maybe stick him on Roberson sometimes to give him a chance to catch his breath. Also interesting to me is Durant's defense. I've never seen him play anything close to like this defensively. He's like Kawhi with a 3 inch longer wingspan out there...
  19. Off topic, but that is definitely not a bonus for the vast majority of people like me, who don't enjoy being subjected to the "growls" of overly loud cars
