  1. I too had food poisining once. About 15 years ago, from a chinese restaurant in chinatown. I thought I was going to die. My friend thought it was a virus and ate my leftovers the next day, she believed me after that.
  2. I am calling for a snow scare on Sunday. That would move the wait list up.
  3. The Hooters on Rockville Pike would fit under the Patio dining thread. I take my kids there during the summer.
  4. Texas Three Way with a side of Onion Rings. I love it, but can only have it a couple of times a year.
  5. On Rockville Pike Mamma Lucia has outdoor dining too.
  6. Isn't Chowhound just another example of something with great potential that some idiot screwed up for a variety of reasons, but has a great marketing machine.
  7. Montgomery County really needs Ray's to open. Tonight I wanted a steak, but did not feel like driving. There is no place unless you count the chains in Bethesda. Michael - Please help us out. Thanks.
  8. I think a party will be in order when we hit 1,000.
  9. People are always going to complain. You have a great restaurant with low capacity. Tell them if they don't like a time limit on the early seating don't come. You will have many more complaint's from people with long waits, and many more who will not bother to try if they think it might be a wait. I would rather know beforehand that I have a reservation for 90 minutes, that is more than enough to enjoy the early dinner. Please tell me you will take reservations when you open in Silver Spring.
  10. Sounds like Rocklands lunch is off - Anyone want to do Urban BBQ?
  11. Count me in for lunch next Friday. Maybe the following week we should do urban bbq for comparison purposes.
  12. I went to Jackies about about a month or two ago. I really like the place. It is really a cute neighborhood restaurant. We had the steak and I think the risotto. I remember the food being very good, not over the top but very good for a neighborhood place. No it is not in a Ray's catagory, but I really did not have any complaints. The service was good, not the best ever. Our waitress was NICE (curteous, efficient and had a smile on her face) and these days that puts her two steps ahead of most others. I would go back in heart beat.
  13. I think you hit the nail on the head. For Mamma Lucia in Bethesda is good too (Shady Grove Road is terrible). I am not a Vace fan, but right on with everything else. The NoVa places worth going to would be Tony's Pizza in Fair Lakes - The far end of the Walmart Shopping Center. I have heard Italian Store in Arlington, but have never been.
  14. They usually put both menus out, but not always. I was at a dinner last month during the holiday's and I had to ask for the "other" menu. They probably try to size you up and if you look like the masses they just give you the Americanized menu instead of the more authentic menu. We had a party of ten and not one compaint about the food or service and they were jumping that night.
  15. I am sick of mediocre to Poor products with a great marketing machine. I don't know of anyone who really likes his products.
  16. I stopped in there this afternoon with my kids. The guy behind the counter said that February 4th was their official opening. Everything would be 25% off all day. We bought a few cupcakes. I was not impressed. We kept them out from 4 when we picked them up until 6:30 when they were tasted, so the temperature excuse dies not hold up. My three year old who had been hocking me since 4 to skip dinner and just have cupcakes just left it on her plate and said she doesn't like it (no I did not let her skip dinner for dessert), anyone who knows my daughter - she loves her sweets. My six year old who usually NEVER likes cake decided that she likes it and it was the "BEST". Okay - my daughter likes dry cake. Here was my take: Frosting - The chocolate dipped had a "medicine" type taste. I have seen this before in poor quality chocolate. I did like the strawberry butter cream, it had real pieces of strawberry and was very fresh. Cake - Dry and flavorless as others have reported, very disappointed. I tasted samples in the store that were ice cold - Just what they are claiming we should not do and I thought that the samples were moister and fresher. Bottom Line - would not go back, but I am sure they will survive on reputation alone.
  17. Does an extra tip make up for being a pain in the neck? Last night (Christmas Eve) we went out and had a reservation for eight. We wound up being a party of twelve without any advance. Yes this was out of line and expected a problem of our own making. The restaurant handled like a pro. Of course the fact that a big party just cancelled at the last second saved our day too. We had plenty of thank you's and no complaints. I did remind people at the table that we were lucky to be seated, so if the food takes a few extra minutes so be it. I can say that we did add an extra tip. On a bill of almost $200 we left $60 tip (so just over 30%). Did we cover our being out line?
  18. Dewey Beach We will be in the Dewey Beach area next weekend and are looking for a restaurant that would have great ambiance (Would great food too be to much to ask?). Does anything like that exist in that area?
  19. For everyone who hates chains there are a lot of people that do go to them. Of course that is why they are in business. I just called Bonefish Grill for tonight, and they said "We are already full for tonight". I can see that at Black's but Bonefish Grill?
  20. Probably Original Pancake House would be your best bet. I have had some decent meals at the Tastee diner too.
  21. Thank You. For those that did get into this event we should voluntarily hold our names out of the next big event lottery in order to give those that did not a better chance for the next event. No big issues or name blocks for Hill Valley to worry about, just common courtesy for the membership.
  22. I am a G&M fan. I know many will disagree and say "Gone downhill". I have been a fan for years and still am, the wait for dinner on a Saturday night says they have lot's of other fans too. Then we will have the next group that says "Fadley's" I have never been there, so I cannot speak to Fadley's. If I hit Camden Yards for an afternoon game, G&M on the way home every time.
  23. I stopped in this afternoon after coffee at Mayorga. This was the best ice cream I have had in a long time! I admit that I have been on a B&J kick lately, but B&J has no flavor compared to this. They have a seasonal pumkin ice cream that the kids loved.
