  1. It is curious. Right after Palena Cafe, Medium Rare, Fiola and Freddy's opened, there were lots of reviews. I'm looking forward to going to Graffiato in mid-July.
  2. I know that #5 won't be retired, and I'm sure that Rocks will pull this post. :-)
  3. His rather ambiguous answers to chatters' questions about his plans, and his complaints about meeting deadlines and churning out the dining guides.
  4. Did the bar menu tonight. The seared tuna and soft shell crab were exquisite, and Pichan, of course, was charming. A few people were at the bar to drink. We were the only ones to have the bar menu, and we were there from 7:30-9:30. Pichan mentioned that Velour should open in about a year.
  5. I have a feeling that Sietsema is growing weary and that the WP has quietly begun to "audition" Justin Rude and Tim Carman as his successor.
  6. Believe it or not I ate there in the early '90s while at Brown and remember loving RI-style calamari!
  7. OK, so I'm not Italian, but I am from Jersey and know a bit about Jersey-Italian food. Menu looks great and have made reservations for mid-July.
  8. It is confusing! I always get lost in Arlington. Majestic is in Old Town Alexandria and is good but rather small and noisy. Have you considered Eventide in Clarendon? The bar is noisy, but upstairs is great.
  9. One of our pleasures is preparing dinner together after buying truly exceptional ingredients often at a farmers market, Balducci's, and Black Salt. Chopping, slicing, diciing. Salmon, rockfish, halibut, swordfish grilled with interesting sides is my idea of a meal well spent. Low sodium, little fat, and great taste.
  10. Had dinner there on Thursday, and it was very, very good. The $13 vegetable salad is a wonderful mixture of flavors and textures drizzled with a light vinargarette. My SO had the rockfish surrounded by a medley of mushrooms. I had the thickest piece of bluefish that I have ever encountred, and it was complemented by a fascinating vegetable mixture of peas, carrots, red peppers, lima beans, and herbs. This is among our favorite restaurants in DC.
  11. Paid $10 to Village Vines for $30 off at Sou' Wester. Its list is small but growing.
  12. Does MR plan to replace the so so portabello mushroom with a more interesting vegetarian alternative?
  13. Although there is nothing on the website about it, if you send Corduroy an email, they will provide you with the bar menu.
  14. I agree. In response to Joe H. TA's reviews of the Edwardian Grafton in Tottenham Court Road were spot on. For London UK restaurants, I relied on local sites.
  15. And FWIW, Trip Advisor helped recently with London restaurants and hotels.
  16. What site would you suggest for Camden, Rockland, Rockport, Maine? Trip Advisor has rankings for each little town. Perhaps we need a RuralSpoon.
  17. Thank you very much. Has anyone been to Marcel's at the Samoset Resort or Natalie's in Camden?
  18. We just returned from London and although we missed Salt Yard, we did enjoy Menulla, Pescatori, and Sardo very much. Also had dinner at Live Bait on the South Bank, and it was a major disappointment. Fodor's talked up Siam Central in Charlotte Street for Thai tapas, but although the chicken dumplings with tamarind were excellent, the seafood combo was greasy and overpriced.
  19. Thanks for your helpful reply. Plan to try Salt Yard and Menulla, and perhaps Oscar at the Charlotte Street Hotel. Considering lunch at Sardo's and Meals at Heal's.
  20. Yes, it's a formula, but not an obvious one. We live in the culinary wasteland otherwise known as McLean. The Pike manager told us that the Tyson's restaurant will open in August.
  21. We had dinner at Seasons 52 last Saturday night before going to a concert at Strathmore. When we arrived at 6:00--with reservations--the joint was already jumping. The staff was friendly and efficient. The manager stopped by to chat and, after dinner, took our parking stub to the valet stand, so we could wait inside. The flatbread was flying out of the kitchen, but we didn't order it this time. We ordered Sonoma goat cheese ravioli, carmelized crab and shrimp mushrooms, tiger shrimp penne pasta, and arctic char (one of that night's specials). The food was very good and very fresh and inasmuch as nothing on the menu is more than 495 calories, we didn't feel uncomfortably full. Our only quibble is that the mushrooms and char were a bit oversalted. This is a very nice addition to the rather sparse dining scene near Strathmore Hall. BTW, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's performance of Mahler's Song of the Earth was magnificent.
  22. We'll be there for most of August. Any recommendations for Rockland, Rockport, Camden?
  23. Thank goodness we finally got him, but this may be only chapter two in a very long epic.
